  4. Seems like the voice has been quiet for a while, but knowing that it has now actually been stilled is a saddening realization. RIP, and indeed, thanks. Much love here.

  6. Truly a voice of my childhood. It was funny when he was the announcer on SNL, he was already considered "old fashioned" then, that was some kind of inside joke, I think, that here's all these young crazy people on NBC, and here's Don Pardo. Continuity of the most televisiony type. Yet look at how many of them he outlived. Last laughs best, etc. I do remember expressing concern a few months back (December, maybe?) when his voice sounded weak and hoarse on an SNL. But he was back the next week, fully recharged, it sounded like. Guys like Don Pardo might not be "stars", but they sure are legends, and deservedly so. RIP, and tell us what we've won one last time, please.

  8. Looks like Amazon Instant has all the Hitchcock you can eat...don't know the math that made it so, though. A lot of it is free if you have Prime, but far from all of it. And a lot(?) of the silent stuff is readily available for free, in lots of places, what with it being PD and all. Of course, prints are not always the best, but hey, PD, and hey, free. And really, I do not know what is around for source material for it to be any better. I'm NOT The Man Who Knew Too Much. But I'll watch anything Hitchock eventually. There's a PD cahnnel on Roku that has a buttload of them there just waiting fro me: http://www.hosttecsolutions.com/portfolio.html As far as Netflix goes, I have a treaming account, and love it for TV series, a few of the original shows, and whatever catalog they have available. I've been pretty much "classic movie"ed out for a while now, so the variety (in both selection and of the quality therein), is ok by me at this time. Also, if you like more "offbeat" fare that is often very good (imo, of course), try Snag Films http://www.snagfilms.com/ or on your Roku. Lots of variety, and commercial interruptions, but usually not too intrusive, and again, free because of that. Roku is getting...interesting. There's stuff like this http://www.rokuguide.com/channels/grindhouse-channel which is in NO way "quality fare", I mean, I've only been able towatch a few of the films through to completion, but sometimes a look at something just for WTF! value is good for a half hour or so.

  10. I feel sorry for Alfred Lion, having to decide do i want a perfect record that will entrance generations to come or a sloppy one that will scare the shit out of people but still kick everybody's all day all kinds of ass. Thank god, his quandary is finally being resolved. At last he can rest in peace. At least until the angels say, hey Al. what about that Tyrone Washington train.rec.music.bluenote.thing, what about that? Fame is cheap. True greatness comes at a cost. .
  11. Before decisioning that variable, keep in mind that the electric chair was invented by a dentist.
  12. It's been a while since I've heard them, but I recall my very first reaction, I mean, a cold first listen, was damn, Elvin, don't hurt nobody! And then Joe started and I was like, oh shit, it's gonna be like THAT. And it pretty much was! It was all Elvin's fault, that much I still remember.
  13. Dumbest thing ever invented? Electric can opener. Everything else pales in/by comparison, including this so-called "jazz". Yeah, I'm going there.

  21. If it's more cost effective to see an Art Director, that might be the way to go. Doctors can get pricey in a hurry. Then again, you get what you pay for, which leads us right back to Steeplechase covers inducing various symptoms and such in random population samples of the population at random.
