  1. Yeah, they're playing like the Mavericks...BOO!
  2. It's one of those 8-cut MCA Special Product things that was available in truck stops, gas stations, and other such places. I've had it for years, but on cassette. Because I keep it semi-real like that. My 8 Men, 4 Women CD (MCA MCAD-20547) has 10 cuts. You're right. I was going by memory, and the last few years, it's my memory that's been going by. Vintage!
  3. I'm hoping that we've pretty much covered all that there is to be covered in this thread. There's some very interesting people who come here, Bev included, and wouldn't it be so much nicer to be able to continue engaging them in a "peacetime" environment?

  9. Ok, the next question is WHY? (and I think the anwer is gonna be like the one about why does a dog lick itself - Because he can ) But now that you got a theme, you can do variations. Like have some of the tracks playing backwards and some not, or just do Mobley's solos, or alter the individual tracks where the whole thing comes out w/all tracks the same length, or anything, really, and then circulate it among hte underground until you get a commission and then you'll be famous and then life will be easy! Or something like that.
  10. DAMN Dude, did you do that?

  16. http://cdbaby.com/cd/wolfpacmusic http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=x7g...p;ref=index.php I did not really care for Mr. Wolf's previous album (Japan-only), outstanding playing but it was so "classic" that it didn't speak to me in terms of anything other than "product". My problem, not theirs. but THIS one.... Ok, a few things are still kinda "classic" in tone, but they are few and they are not dominant. the rest is...well, it's like, if I have a chance to hear someth9ing before buying, as I did this one, the deciding factor for me if all else fails is whether or not I already have something in the archives that gives me the same thing. And this one, musically, is kinda reminiscent of those Cindy Blackman Muse sides of a while back, only with a few degrees more separation from a Tony Williams obsession (not necessarily a BAD thing, I'm just sayin'...), BUT what I got out of this that I don't have, couldn't have anywhere else is a sense of personality, personal energy, personal stories being told, albeit in a relatively older format. Hey, if you speak, SPEAK, and these folks SPEAK! There IS an occasional Rhodes, btw. For some that's a deal breaker, but AFAIC, with this much WHOOOOOOSH going on, you NEED that fatness underneath it. I wish the whole thing had Rhodes! Anyway - good stuff from some largely unfamiliar, younger names. Check 'em out & show 'em some love,

  18. They wore shirts like that in the 50s. Check some of the old Blue Note session photos on the back of the albums. Ther ewas even a thread a loooooong time ago about the "Blue Note Striped Shirt". That might have even been on Board Krypton. Bottom line, though, is that the Columbia cover pictured is AFAIK the original for that album. I've never seen another , earlier one.

  21. I said it then & I'll say it now - Jerry Lewis did it first, and Jerry Lewis did it better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MA3406YJUg But the kid is good.
  22. Just had a look at my Mobley LP & there's no photographer credited, just "Design: Richard Mantel/Mantel Koppel & Scher". Also looked at my "six-eye" mono copy of the Blakey (nobody get excited, it's plowed all to hell, bought it at a thrift shop just to have as an "object") and it is identical to the one you posted. Hunstein is credited on the front cover there as well. The thing to remember is that at the time of the Far Away Lands issue, BN was not going so much for an "authentic retro" look. Hardly any, if any, of the vault material issues used Wolff photos or Miles-esque graphics. That came much later. So Richard Mantel probably had access & rights to the Hunstein photos and used them. Actually, when did the Wolff photo archives get sold? I'm thinking it was well after the 80s Blue Note relaunch. So blue Note (actually EMI) might not have had free access to that library like they do now. If I'm wrong about this, somebody bring the true facts, please.

  24. Oh, ok. Bunch felt "outclassed" by Evans. That makes sense. Thanks! (and no need to apologize for your English, believe me. It's my native tongue and I still mangle it daily, hourly, sometime even more often.)
