  1. A compilation of Continental 78s. Originals were good enough SQ. The music itself is wonderful, singers doing that early post-WWII singer thing with Bird/Diz/Etc, providing accompaniment. I don't know that I would call this music "common", at least not in any "formal" way. It's the stuff of off-brand labels. But didn't Storyvill do a Continental disc or two? Or not?
  2. Accessories sold separately.
  3. Drive.
  4. and then there was this:
  5. Or get one of those George Fenneman watercars and drive.
  6. Ollie Mitchell Mitchell Lurie Lauri Partridge
  7. Wynne Danoska - You Can Never Tell!!!
  8. This is a good record.
  9. Quinn Davis Alto Reed Vi Redd
  10. King Korn Ida Lupino Icarus
  11. Sigh.... Yes, Epoch Times is indeed tied to a religious-political movement and in no way can be considered reliable news. Just because they're vehemently opposed to the Communist regime in China (good for them) and are being persecuted by them (China...)doesn't mean that everything they say will therefore be true. They do have an agenda, and nothing is too "fringe" for them in the pursuit thereof. I'll allow the quote but not the link. Links are traceable in all kinds of ways, and I don't think the ownership of this board was this site to be linked to that one. Please, try to be aware which sources are proven responsible/reliable and aren't just some wacko fringe shit. I get that there's a lot of "diversity of opinion" about what that entails, but try to do a little homework before posting here, ok? And yes, please, if anybody is looking for "News of the Day" to be an ongoing backdoor to/for political topics, forget it. We all know the rules about that. I do hate to hear about the discontinuation of the iPod, though. The only Apple product I ever liked, nay, loved.
  12. That Havana 3 AM record had an insane trumpet section, iirc, Maynard Ferguson AND Conrad Gozzo and I forget who else. AND it's basically kitsch-free. But it is DEFINITELY as loud as fuck.
  13. Only been paying any real attention to "classical" for a few years now (and generally more modern stuff), but Chopin's harmonies have had an immeasurable influence on a certain type of jazz harmony. Any good collection of the Preludes won't hurt any, if you know what I mean.
  14. Moving this to Artists since there no "In Print" relevance to the topic as posted. And there's ample CD-equivalents to be found as well! Prado soon enough and willingly enough became a self-parody, but his earliest RCA sides (recorded in Mexico City as I understand) were something else. Fearless, one might say, perhaps.
  15. Don't spend it all in one place!
  16. Probably not what he's "best-known" for, but the sides he cut with Perez Prado (late 1940s?) are really something. Prado went all-in on the Kenton influence, and More was more than up for it.
  17. Known and admired him for decades. He's a legend, actually.
  18. Song For Mother E is one of the all-time great jazz organ records, imo, definitely in the post-Larry Young era. What I would love to hear - if it exists - is audio documentation of her doing the gig with Gene Ammons. Imagine that....
  19. Have you been to that Windmills joint yet? We were at NFM lst weekend and I couldn't find it, even using the phone GPS. But I know it's there, somewhere!
  20. Cool, thanks. "Yes" it is!
  21. Could be interesting. Are they actually using Chopin source material?
  22. From the newly-resurrected Milestone label. Or so it sounds.
  23. Taddy Rumens - Songs of the Homeland
