That's a good record!

No detail or implication left unexamined. Too often in my experience (small sample size to be sure) this type of material is played in a "glossy" way in an attempt to sound "nice". Our local classical station seems to favor those type of interpretations almost exclusively...classical music as lifestyle accessory. Yuck. This is not that. This is make you listen intently every step of the way because you don't want to miss anything music. Fascinating and gratifying.

And too often, to me, it's made to sound easy. And that makes it sound cheap or something. This does NOT sound easy, in any way. Nor does it sound strained. It just sounds...serious.

Ricky Stumps Jr. - Humstoldt!!!

I will be in Detroit for the festival over Labor Day weekend. They always have a booth/ tent. Sometimes the staff can be asked serious questions, sometimes not. Depends on who's there at the time. But I'll drop by and tell them thank you, ask what future plans are, and maybe buy some stuff. If I get good info, I'll pass it on.

Well, whaddya know the first album in the RCA box is Mozart, and "like" might be a bit much, but I can say that I do enjoy it because somehow they take most of the silliness and predictability out of the music that most other people either leave in, or worse, add. I'd have to venture that if it was that easy, then everybody would do it? Is there a story as to why the band moved from Columbia to RCA?

As do I. But it's been a while, time to revisit, maybe after summer. Those Sony Classical LP replica box sets are such a good deal! Nor am I, and nor have I. Supposedly he looked at Copland as a rival. I'm not at all fond of Copland, but Thomson? Not feelin' that one, at all. I picked up a used LP of Louisiana Story which was a Pulitzer Prize winning film score (sic) and was not at all happy with it. Sounded like...not anything I wanted more of.

Serious question - does this include his movie collection?

First in the Epic box, but the second doesn't come after a long and substantial stay at RCA. This one is ok. In no way "modern", but the playing bring pleasure. And the Denny has a bit of frisk. Now on to the RCA collection...

Another nailbiter in MLC tonight, this time with a (seemingly) improbable come from behind win by San Francisco. The baseball "equivalent" would be getting a walk off win in the bottom of the 9th after trailing by 15, or something like that. As a lifelong America sports fan, it's pretty much hard-wire into me that every game has a winner, and that the game ends the same day that it begins. So T-20 is a perfect for at for me, especially now that I'm familiar with the basic (and a few nuances of the game). MLC has thus far provided good, (mostly) competitive matches, and a home team that has looked good to this point. Looking into getting tickets for when SF comes to play us in Grand Prairie. Should be a good time! So far San Francisco looks like the team to beat - three games, three wins. and different hero each game. Yes, this is fun!🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

What are your thoughts about/Interactions with AI?

And there's the whole thing in a nutshell. Too many/most people don't want to know much more past what it takes to get the peanuts to drop into the bowl. I'm not at all optimistic about how all this plays out. Then again, it's been a good while since I have been optimistic about the direction of bulk humanity. Binary code, yes. Binary thinking, no. Give us enough code and we'll hang ourself. -

I have yet to have a need for it. But I see it's effects daily. Mostly, I'm not a fan of what I see and hear. I'm sure it can be useful... Is Mallory still with Nick? -

Bud Brisbois, pop star!?!?

Should have moved on to the next box by now, but this Foss/Bergsma record is not easily letting go, especially the Bergsma, and especially it's last movement. This is indeed a good record.

That would have been enough!

Too bad they didn't have Wolfman Jack interview Hermeto.

One helluva nailbiter in MLC this evening, going down to the last ball. Texas hung in and won by 3, 285-182. It's almost midnight here and my heart is still racing... I'm getting too old for this late-night drama!

This is a really good record. Foss incorporates hooks (in a matter of speaking), and Bergsma (another new name to me, this series is full of them) works in an ethereal, perhaps prototypical minimalist style long melodies surrounded by looping string parts that wrap around that melody. Again, a really good record, and a really good box set. A great way to start the summer!
