  1. Just read (and deleted) the "Valentine sale" e-mail. No interest.
  2. I'm kinda surprised at that, myself! That, combined with their quick playoff exit, maybe will light a fire under the Cowboys next season to not coast into the playoffs. It may help motivate the Pats too, though they've got plenty of other things to motivate themselves - 18-1, Spygate I & II now, etc. I really question the alleged motivational power of "bulletin board" quotes. Possibly it exists, to a limited extent, for super-brash quotes regarding the upcoming week's game, or for nasty ad hominem comments about individual players, but I doubt that Strahan's Cowboys statement will have any effect (or even be remembered) when the '08-'09 season starts.
  3. Even worse in my case. The buggers knocked it down from the mid-20s to 5.
  4. Yeah, Lupica is awful, but the Daily Ruse is a truly horrid paper, even by tabloid standards.
  5. Well yeah, law of averages says you gotta lose at least once during the season. Better to lose one in the front 16 than later on, eh? I will say this, though - if there's any franchise in American professional sports that can eventually pull it off, it's the Patriots. I dunno...despite all the talent, and the brain trust, I have the feeling that the NEP "dynasty" has now jumped the shark. Needless to say, I could be completely wrong.
  6. Only saw them a couple of times. Got a big kick out of it, having read lots about them in period American literature.
  7. Chet Feretti Chet Baker Ma Baker Ma Barker Alvin Karpis Melvin Purvis, G-Man
  8. I once had a problem with a Newbury eBay Store sale. Newbury processed the sale without the advertised discount, and I had trouble reaching the company by e-mail. Someone on this board posted their customer service phone number (sorry, I no longer have it). A phone call quickly cleared up the problem.

  10. Different sports have different "silly seasons". Formula 1's is in August, for instance. The NFL's is the two weeks (sometimes one) between the conference ch.s and the Super Bowl.
  11. Oh heck, I broke down and placed an order. Don Ewell Denver Concert Duke Jordan One for the Library Kenny Drew Trio Live at the Brewhouse Warne Marsh & Lee Konitz Quintet Live at the Montmartre Club Jazz Exchange, Vol. 1 Warne Marsh & Lee Konitz Quintet Live at the Montmartre Club Jazz Exchange, Vol. 2 Teddy Wilson The Keystone Transcriptions 1939-1940

  13. Just got a Daedalus Books and Music (remainder outlet, www.daedalusbooks.com) catalog yesterday. They have a bunch of Storyville releases for $5.98 and $6.98. I'm tapped out due to Concord, but some of the titles seem pretty attractive. Daedalus has a fixed $5.98 shipping cost, which is good for bigger orders. [Disclaimer: I have no relationship with Daedalus, but have placed a number of orders and received good service.]
  14. Yeah, me too. It was funny. In light of the AAJ migration and talk, I suspected a hack. Tried to visit the AAJ site (for the first time in a long while), and it was down as well. Strange coincidence. Don't know when/if AAJ went back up.
  15. Ice storm. Hoping the power stays on.
  16. Leon Trotsky Jeremiah Trotter Eddie Cantor
  17. Funny article. I hadn't realized yesterday's New Age music was so good. Bit of a zinger when he mentioned Tangerine Dream, though...for a while in the early/mid '70s (yes, I'm an old fart) I thought they were pretty cool.
  18. Essentially, no. According to jr.com: At the present time, we only ship to the Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, Puerto Rico, and Canada. J&R proudly ships to our Armed Forces APO/FPO customers.
  19. Patriots vs Rams, 2001 The Rammies lost and rightly so. They didn't deserve to be there in the first place. Pats were far superior against the Rammies. Please explain how the Rams didn't deserve to be there. 14-2 regular season record, #1-ranked offense, #7-ranked defense. Beat the Pack 45-17 in divisional playoffs, beat Philly 29-24 in divisional championship. Should Philly have been given a mulligan? Or should the Super Bowl have featured 2 AFC clubs? I don't dispute the statement that the Pats were better. Although better coaching/play-calling by the over-rated Martz could have made a big difference.
  20. I don't expect Concord to ever again go as low as they did with the original Blow Out. I get the impression they've been doing quite a bit of business in the current sale. Figure they'll do more sales around that level, perhaps a bit lower to clear out odds and ends. I've had nothing but good experiences with J & R, btw. But I live in NY State and get charged sales tax on their orders, which made Concord a good alternative to their standard $6.99 sale (I missed the $4.99 sale for some reason ).
  21. How big is "big"? Pats beat the Rams as 14-point dogs in 2002. Denver beat GB as 12-pt dogs in 1998.

Larry Kart tipped me off to the album. During the original Concord blow-out (IIRC), he posted a strong rec.
  23. I think I got the last one from BMG by e-mail earlier today. I'm a BMG member, but basically inactive: got off the "monthly selection" list about 10 (!) years ago, have been purchasing from yourmusic instead, and haven't ordered from BMG in over two years. So I doubt that their e-mail list is very exclusive...
  24. I'd be kinda surprised if Brady has to pay for it, and would be downright shocked if he pulls a Eugene Robinson act before the SB...
  25. Probably best to try the Eisler Rain novels in chronological order. The first one is Rain Fall. I can't say they're great literature, but pretty exciting within the espionage genre. Lots of globe-trotting, "tradecraft" and cynical plot twists. Perhaps Burke and Rain share some psychological characteristics. Pity that Burke's dog Pansy died. I think the last novel in the series I read was the one just before she kicked it.
