  1. wanted to(and will) post something similar, the version of Congo Chant from Patton's Blue Planet Man... don't know the original version though...; i really like zorn and ed cherry with patton so i guess i'll have to get minor swing as soon as i find an affordable copy... great idea for a thread!
  2. They realize it. Ebay knows exactly what it's doing. Shill bidding, especially when it's hard to detect, is most definitely to ebay's advantage. Definitely. And now they don't have to worry about amateur detectives uncovering the shenanigans. It stinks. stupid question... why does it help to know that someone is a shill bidder? (i mean if someone bids more than you want to pay, the item is gone no matter what the motivation is...) is it because you want to avoid the seller in the future?
  3. this is ebays new privacy thing... if you outbid someone he will also think he's outbid by p***a and the like (strangely enough they even use the same code for different bidders in an auction (don't think the start and end letters are from the real handle, but i am not sure
  4. rip discography from his webpage http://www.halsteinjazz.com the last cd is available for instance via www.jpc.de additionally he has a quartet album on cdbaby http://cdbaby.com/cd/halsteinquartet
  5. got two "classic" blue note cds during lunch break at zweitausendeins (did i mention we have this new store ) Jimmy Smith - Midnight Special Donald Byrd - Slow Drag (i wondered did i really need another byrd record given that i hardly listen to the ones i own... first impression indicates buying this was exactly the right decision..)
  6. imho there is something wrong with the nominations in the category "best website"
  7. happy birthday!
  8. happy birthday!
  9. don't think it would have made much of a difference, he should have been shot like in 1934 or 1939 at the latest - always had difficulties to really appreciate the Stauffenberg group, i mean, they died for what was essentially a good thing, but i don't think they (mainly) did it for the right reasons (stop the holocaust, prevent ww2 from happening); it was rather that they were shocked at how madly hitler organized his war (a thing which shouldn't actually suprise anyone who heard hitler talk for more than 30 seconds - the guy was obviously mad)
  10. wasn't jimmy bond the other bassist? (and isn't he famous... another Chet Baker connection btw...; Jimmy Bond played only the record date as Lewis had left shortly before that one, he never was a regular member. Chewy is a big fan of Daniel Jackson and knows him personally. Jackson wrote most of the arrangements on both Four Souls albums - a great talent. I can't see why he didn't make it bigger ... another daniel jackson fan here, attended some of his piublic workshops when i was sixteen );don't really know how to express my admiration for him, but it's really really great; very similar discussion in this older thead http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=39275 but i'd like to point out again this great interview (and mention he has four cds on cdbaby) http://musicandculture.blogspot.com/2007/1...diego-jazz.html why he didn't make it bigger... guess he was 5 years to young, he could have avoided some substances (and riverside disappeared...)
  11. according to this site http://www.rocknroll.freeserve.co.uk/july.htm (and maybe also according to his japanese wikipedia entry) he died in 1990
  12. wasn't jimmy bond the other bassist? (and isn't he famous... another Chet Baker connection btw...; concerning big names daniel jackson said he took over harold land's spot in the four souls...) Sleet is also on one Shelly Manne album iirc another fan of all members here...
  13. oh ... guess it will take me another ten years to understand

  21. well then "many of you" should realize that CDs have been around for 20+ years now and adapt yourselves to the current reality. all of us grew up having to sit through commercials on TV too, but it doesn't take long with a DVR (or a VCR) to realize you can fast forward through them. do you walk out of concerts after 20 minutes also? you don't want to know how often i've tried to fastforward commercials while watching ordinary tv... not much to add, i prefer 40 minutes and 7 tunes but if the artist has good reasons to deviate that's fine with me... if cds are much longer however for me they often lose the album feel and rather feel like a bunch of music (nothing wrong with that, badly described), for older jazz i like the idea of listening to one session at a time...
  22. oh, names remembered correctly, but wrong label and only vaguely similar design, so not a series... thank you!
  23. !happy birthday!
  24. allmusic says frank gauna...? isn't there at least one other album in a similar design? can't find any but vaguely recall zoot sims or sonny stitt... maybe not...
