  1. one of those records i missed in that great zweitausendeins sale two years ago... lately i found the best prices for ojcs from international ebay sellers btw, (took me some while to figure this out - you have to change your search setting to worldwide to find them) that would have gotten you a copy for about 5,50, but of course, shipping would have taken much longer than from france http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ZOOT-SIMS-EAST-COAST...p3286.m14.l1318
  2. Where do you live, St. Pauli? actually it's a reasonable nice housing area in bonn... bonn does however stink more than most other cities around it (cologne) (we also have slightly higher temperatures here most of the time...) funnily enough recently on tv there was a report about some troubled 14 year old and they tried their best to report about our area as some sort of ghetto ("where gang membership is all that counts"... and the like) ... pretty funny (i mean, groups of three or four 14 year olds smoking cigarettes don't make a place a ghetto) Doesn't make the group a gang either. not really, they rather looked fat and a little troubled - though they did look fierce enough that i wouldn't have dared to tell them they're not a gang

  4. more or less accidentally i haven't smoked for two days now and the one thing that changed really quickly was that i started to register how bad the streets around here smell...
  5. thought i'd mention there's also a hat sale (4,99 euro) at zweitausendeins (2001) currently... ordered warne marsh's ne plus ultra there...

posted this link before some time ago that i read it but there's a good chance that in steven isoardi's extensive interview you might well find ortega's view of the answer... i like his later stuff (though all in all i must admit i am not too puzzled he didn't get bigger than bird) http://content.cdlib.org/xtf/view?docId=hb...=&brand=oac btw anyone else thought ortega had died when seeing this thread... scary! and another btw, can anyone confirm that the ortega/dupree bolton pacific jazz session mentioned in the interview is (not) on the new uptown cd?
  7. here http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=24112
  8. this wouldn't affect andorra, right?
  9. happy birthday tom!
  10. just wanted to throw in i am with ejp on this issue... anything that people can play on their computer can be ripped using software that is found within minutes... i wouldn't even try to encode stuff... just brings up bad emotions in people (think of copyprotected cds) and doesn't prevent them from doing anything they want to do
  11. wasn't aware either until this thread... one of the tougher to find ojc cds it seems starting at 17.50 at amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Wiggin-Out-Gerald-Wi...9796&sr=8-2
  12. is there miles/mingus stuff on prestige? or do they mean debut? (yes it's not a big thing)
  13. i think i like this one better than dakar, shihab is great on it, and it's very dark, too...
  14. will have to consult youtube on these... US: Morning Train (Nine To Five) - Sheena Easton UK: Making Your Mind Up - Bucks Fizz

Missed this note five years ago. Was this LP a compilation of sorts? Would like to hear it (naturally). would love to hear it as well, from jazzdisco.org: (the gonsalves session has recently been reissued on the fresh sound cd paul gonsalves cookin')
  16. what i meant was that said you think that humphrey is not a prostitute and a hustler...
  17. nicest thing about bobbi humphrey i ever read around here...
  18. late last night i realized i needed more grant green records... went through a few shops and out of general frustration i bought a bit more than usually, mostly on sale Chet Baker - Round Midnight ( (as i realized later) somewhat odd 50 minute compilation of tracks from two 1979 albums with the same line-up very good music however... (featuring musicians i don't know Jean-Paul Florens on guitar, Henri Florens on piano...) ) Eric Vloiemans - Hidden History Syd Barrett - Opel (another odd compilation but with some great songs, had the two solo albums for years, almost know them by heart, glad i finally got this one) Grant Green - The Latin Bit Grant Green - Feelin' the spirit
  19. two decently priced orders from amazon.de marketplace, hope at least one of them will show up Grant Green - Blues for Lou John Patton - Accent on the blues
  20. My thought as well. I do not know. From the NCA New York article: "AJAS produced its first jazz concert on December 24, 1956 at Small’s Paradise, with Lou Donaldson and the Bill English Quartet and a group of young budding jazz artists, George Braith, Bobby Capers, Vinnie McEwen, Oliver Beener, Pete LaRoca, Ray Draper and others." Vinnie McEwen = Vincent McEwan from John Patton's Boogaloo ?! what a band...
  21. my first three were Horace Silver Song for my father, Art Blakey Moanin and Herbie Hancock Maiden Voyage... don't know which one was first, got the latter two at the same time, Song for my father feels like my first Blue Note, don't have a very strong connection to the other two...
  22. not very cold here; we do have rain though...
  23. googled some lineups... Milt Jackson: James Moody (fl, vo) Milt Jackson (vib) Cedar Walton (p) Ron Carter (b) Otis "Candy" Finch (d) Moody only on flute and vocals ?! the masekela looks nice: Hugh Masekela (flhrn); Dudu Pukwana (as); Larry Willis (p, el-p); Eddie Gomez (b); Nakhaya Ntshoko (d)
