  1. "A club manager named Willie Pay" Excellent! Of course he would not be a part of the entourage.
  2. I put this together while doing a show for 18 months in 1991. Some are mine. Some others contributed. Perhaps some of you would enjoy adding to or editing some of these.
  3. Zero cheers for tradition.
  4. I think it likely that Louis would have been a great musician and probably a trumpet player without his experience at the 'Home'. Why am I alone in this view?
  5. I don't see Burton (or anyone) often but we have been friends for 30 years. We live near each other. I played with him a few times but I don't play his music well. He's driven and opinionated. That's not for everyone to be around. He's a good man.
  6. January issue of Jazz Inside Magazine. You can access it online at: http://jazzinsidemagazine.com/publications/guide/january-2015 A good read. Starts at page 40 something.
  7. One of a kind. Goodbye, Buddy.
  8. The wonderful man and reed musician Jay Corre died late 2014.

  10. If you lived next to his father's shop almost any day of the week you'd hear, "Hey Adolphe, quite fooling around and get back to work!"

    Goodbye Acker

I made up a list of players in my fantasy big band and used Benjt Slide on second trombone.
  12. I found them about ten years ago or more. I like them very much. Clever bunch of musiciners. (sp?) (How would Bechet spell it?)

    Goodbye Acker

About 1962 I went for my clarinet lesson And asked the teacher if he would help me learn a tune I heard on the radio. He said, "I hope it's not 'Stranger On The Shore'". It was :-)
  14. He played with everyone. http://www.jaycorre.com/resume.html
  15. Why no ... and the check's in the mail.
  16. a mere gin clog a clog in me erg (funnier) a clog in merge (makes the most sense)
  17. I hung with Jay for a few weeks in 2003 when he visited Amsterdam. He was so likable and accomplished. His attitude was wonderful. I wish I had absorbed more of it. RIP, Jay.
  18. Hi BillF, There is one that Miles (Davis, a famous jazz musician) says on a Prestige record. A charming L. Armstrong quote. Well known Cannonball quote from a record. 'At The Lighthouse', I think. ...
  19. JSngry & BillF, yes Down 9, 13, 15, 16 & 21 are medium hard, I think. 4 Down is a little out of the box. It's not an anagram.
  20. Jazz Puzzle 3 - Quotes This is a dumb idea. There is nothing to figure out. You either know who said the quote or Google to find out to complete the crossword. However some of the quotes are nice to read.
  21. Very good, BillF. Those are correct. You did not Google the dates? clue: 2 are not obviously anagrams. I'm impressed you got 'Willis'.
  22. "Maybe if we make it a group effort..." Please do! Let's solve this sucker. Ask for hints to specific questions. or let the thread die :-) That's an option.
  23. Jim, short of finding much better software all I can do is let the program take a long time to do it's work. Edit: more time did not help. It tries to provide more interconnects. Part of the problem may be that the answers are long. I would print out the form and work with it.
  24. Yes, print it. When finished take a pic and post it here :-)
