  1. Don't forget Hutcherson "Inner Glow". But I would not sell the Mosaic Select: I like the booklet.
  2. To round ths topic up: Jimmy Smith "The Singels" was released in Japan in 1983 on LP and did not get a CD release. Yes, it's a compilation, and all titels ended up being bonus cuts on other Jimmy Smith CD's. I had to buy "Jimmy Smith at the organ" (Blue Note 1525) and "Softly as a summer breeze" (Blue Note 4200) twice because of them. The only titel missing in my collection is the alternate take of "Plum Nellie", recorded 1957. 2. 12. But I can't decide to buy the Mosaic-box only for one missing alternate take.
  3. Of course, there are more Blue Notes out there that have never been on CD. I'm thinking of Lee Morgans "Popi", recorded in 1969 - Blue Note 45-1951. Never seen this track on CD.
  4. I forgot this - important - one: Horace Silver - Sterling Silver
  5. Jazz Crusaders - Though Talk - Life Sides
  6. Les McCann - Fish this week
  7. The two Blue Note Dom Minasi records - When Joanna loved me - I have the feeling I have been here before have been reissued on CD in Japan
  8. Jimmy McGriff - Something To Listen To
  9. Joe Williams - Worth Waiting For Check ebay ! Two records for sale right now. Brother JackMcDuff -To Seek A New Home
  10. Blue Mitchell -Collision In Black
  11. Give "Gene Harris of the Three Sounds" (1972) another try! I don't like the cover, the music is great.
  12. 420 albums with Roy Haynes ! But did he ever play with Lou Donaldson ? I don't think so.
  13. Saw him twice in Frankfurt / Jazzkeller. Right now, I hear "BAGS' GROOVE", recorded 72 years ago. Miss him !
  14. Funny thing: Shazam does't recognize "So What" fron the album "Sunday Mornin'", says, it is "Besame mucho" from the album "The Latin Bit".
  15. Grant Greens "First Session" was released in 2001, so the interview must have taken place in the year 2000. According to Richard Cook, the interview was released in: Doobop, No. 5 (2000).
  16. It's Good Friday, hearing Coltrane, Crescent. Books covering Blue Note Records: of course, Richard Cook is a must-read ! I don't know was happend with the book from Ashley Kahn "Somethin' else". Still waiting, and waiting, and waiting ... for 10 years now ! But there is "Uncompromising Expression" by Richard Havers, it is a good read, too. It's a pity there is no colllection of the liner-notes by Bob Blumenthal for the RVG-reissues, they were great. The best thing would be, Mr Cuscuna would finally write the book you ask for.
  17. The winner is - of course ! - Moanin' Mosaic is a great opening track, too, one of my favorites. But Moanin' is not only the greatest track on a Blue Note Album, it is simply one of the greatest Jazz-songs.
  18. Bennie Green, Soul Stirrin' - Soul Stirrin' Lonnie Smith, Think! - Son of Ice Bag Sonny Clark Trio - Be-Bop
  19. My favorite late night Blue Note albums are Ike Quebec's "Heavy Soul" and "Blue and Sentimental"
  20. Hutcherson and Elvin Jones team up perfectly together with Larry Young on Grant Green's "Street of Dreams". I love this exceptional record. Great cover, too !
  21. Funny choice, again with Chick Corea as side-man. It contains "La fiesta". Great version of this song.
  22. Richard Havers doesn't like the cover of "Total Eclipse": "Neither did Reid Miles design the cover and boy does it show. Instead of a unique Blue Note sleeve, the cover artwork could have been designed by just about any major label. One designer can sure make a difference!" (uncomproming expression, page 303) That's right for "San Francisco", but not for "Total Eclipse". I think "Total Eclipse" has a "unique Blue Note sleeve". Great music, great Cover.
  23. "Total Eclipse" and "San Francisco" are among my all-time favourites. I don't like the cover of "San Francisco". The cover of "Total Eclipse" ist great, one of the first after Reid Miles quit doing covers for Blue Note.
  24. Hart to believe it was a thankyou. LaRoca backed only 10 Blue-Note-recordings from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. 10 Blue Notes out of 500.
  25. Pete LaRoca, Basra. One of the finest albums I know.
