  1. re- i dont know enough about max but re- the Bu part, i compeletly agree, in 1965 u have the jazz625 video (uk) here you have john gilmore/lee morgan -- john hicks/victor sproles....on the ginza....1966 comes, and blakey by this point is not w/ bluenote into the liberty era. liberty releases old stuff, "like someone in love'...but blakeys now on Limelight and stuff, the records arent has hot. even though lee morgans still involved. was blakey forced do go more commerical or what was up with this whole period, for reals. was leaving bluenote the impataus for all of it. why did Bu go commerical. or try. his limelight period, i mean hes not "completely selling out", its still jazz. but its just different. you know what im talking about. did blakey change his thinking about the role the jazz messengers sholud play in jazz. cause the difference in time between jazz625 on the ginza gimore/morgan, and "soundtrack to were having a ball" is not very great, time diff. but musically,......wow... isnt gilmore ALSO on that still? WTF! i mean you still have the great lineup. but the music has just been popped like balloon, all the air is sucked out. you have to watch jazz625 on the ginza then listen to S'make it , u know? why did bu leave bluenote. was it cause alfred left. cause they left roughly the same time. bu didnt record one note for bn in the liberty era. god dont make me email michael cuscana again, i think hes so sick of me, he answered one question but i compeletly freak out on him on all these little idosyncraces about bluenote like every detail of the condition of each blue note hank mobley master tape, god i need pics so bad, sooooooooo bad- oh also i had this record (hold on im commin) in my car the night i was hit by a drunk driver real bad so its also cursed cause of that.
  2. * i should note althogh the 78s are the orig issue, sonically its like comparing cassette to xrcd, the lp issues are cleaner, esp for the studio tracks....however the overall sq of all these wardell sesssions has more incommon w/ parker than mobley
  3. when jackie mentions lou donaldson- hot dog
  4. oh balls! some sweet sweet wardell action here-- the printed discog is a MESS, so are the labels, the a b c d designations dont match up to the printed discog./tracklist info in the awwwwwwwsome sturdy gatefold jacket (*great* packinging on this one).... ....however what u DO get is a reissue of the 7008-7009 prestige stampers for the wardell memorial albms vols 1 & 2. looking in the deadwax shows which record goes where. the "real" side A is side "C" or somethin like that-- how many of you were already aware of this- this lp is basically the best you can do if youre not gonna find the original 78s
  5. so was new jazz a reissue label? or how did it work the relationship between the two- i mean newjazz IS prestige...but how did they utilize it, i guess is what im asking
  6. saw keith jarrett trio last night, had the best seat in the house, front box on keiths side of stage, 2nd level, so enough height to see single thing jack was doing on each drum including snare, and stull being right behind jarrett, and could see all of gary peacock. keith only freaked out on select individuals, and did not piss off the entire audience. but im telling you, with what he does, hes -asking- for it.....a little baby made a baby noise or somethin like that right at the start and he turned around and said: "i should tell you ive never played the muppet show"....he must be freaking out more and more cause 8 years ago and then before that 9 or 10 yrs ago i dont recall him communicating at all with words w/ the aud.-- they just played.---- they did a funky version of the pop-jazz tune 'fever' which i thought was an odd choice for this particular band, kind of out in left field, but i liked it! dont have really much to go on and on about regarding the rest of music, but it was good
  7. thats odd brownie! u should of wrote them and complained, lol!
  8. jeffcroms prob right, i havent spun it yet but when i sampled it it sounded like every track was kind of latin,....dance banced kind of....was not expecting that from this lp, but ill take it....."""check please!!"""
  9. i mentioned it in my post.....awwwwwwwwwsomeeeeeeee!!!!! vg+++-+
  10. no i mean andex! i found the best one, mucho calor: the ultimate fusion of latin + west coast jazz!!!!!
  11. there is the new jazz issue with a white cover with a b&w pic framed,- purple new jazz label- then there is a classic yellow prestige label issue with a different cover art. which one was 1st. the prestige cover one ive seen more i know. is the new jazz the 1st issue. is it rarer
  12. you can read more about it in the 'great finds' thread in the vinyl-section. i can tell you, it is pretty exciting. did we ever find out the other 12" issues this label did? god i cant believe i found one outside of los angeles. funnily enough i simoutaeanously found a copy of FRESH CREAM- in *MONO*....mucho calor even put a damper on that a lil bit...!
  13. :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: MUCHO CALOR!!!!!! :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: no VSOP reissue here! Andex, a division of REX, baby! condition: awwwwwwweseome! did i say yet it was 10 bucks ? also picked up julius watkins french horns for my lady (phillips), Red Callendar- Callendar Speaks Low (crown), Bud Shank+Len Mercer Strings- Ill take romance (World Pacific- never seen this one or knew it existed), the swingin nutcracker- shorty rogers (finally), oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, and CREAM- FRESH CREAM (Atco Mono)
  14. i agree these both are rare. if i was in LA i might have a better shot. i WILL find them, absolute buddy collette essentials...yea ive seen the prices on polynesia....yowsers...
  15. are they really both just really small LA labels...
  16. i do not have these two in my collection: The Polynesians- Aloha To Jazz (Bel Canto) Buddy Collette- Polynesia (Music + Sound) has -anyone- of you heard these two, and if so can you comment. aboustely need these in my collection
  17. pfffst, u think thats old? some dude posted on ebay an acetate of the 2nd bn session EVER. it was found at the san diego kobeys swap meet a few wks ago. looks almost unplayable. a more modern sticker is affixed to it saying what it is, but the disc is certainly old. i dont know if anyone won the auction....
  18. what was up with them assigning a new label name to the reissues anyway?
  19. i really like this STATUS issue jackie mclean john jenkins ALTO MADNESS. ira gitler wrote the orig notes, but then theres a followup paragraph from the status issue in '65. its really interesting he tells what happened to all the players in the time since. doug watkins are wade legge are dead. anyways ive never seen this before (except the rvg series, lol) so do any of you are aware or this type of stuff, like -shortly- after the fact, like this status issue from 65? it is sad in a way, everyone changed and the alto madness was never the same oh and as far as john jenkins it says hes still in NY but not really on the scene (not gitlers words)-- did he go into other non jazz work?
  20. Happpppppppy Birthdayyyyyyyyyyyyy!
  21. P-Rug was as legit as they come, RIP
  22. i voted for #1 Jackie McLean Prestige, thats where Jackie Mac was BLOWN the SHEEEZ-IT! jackies discog. is way different than hanks, hank kind of was like always on bluenote, maybe makin a session for someone else here n there but essentially always on bn. jackie like started out on prestige and when to blue note only like way later like New soil he had already changed his style a lot. he was on that one early miles blue note right but in general jackie didnt """come to the label"""" till much later
