  1. I've never had a chance to hear "Echoes," but I love Carter, and I've only heard positive things about this album. It's never been reissued in any format, and there's so little of his stuff available. Can't really see anyone else getting this out there. Could the tapes be in the collection at the University of Colorado? edited for typo
  2. If the Carter/Bradford material on Flying Dutchman is going to be difficult to access, what about a reissue of Carter's "Echoes From Rudolph's" on Ibedon?
  3. As far as I can tell, with the exception of one track, it's all been out before.
  4. Just picked this up today, and it's full of fascinating stuff. It includes a 2CD set, half of which is devoted to musicians from Arkansas. Sadly, no Bubba. Also included is a great article on Billy Lee Riley, written by Allen Lowe.
  5. Buy a copy of this without a second thought. Fantastic music.
  6. Not sure if these have been posted, but they're worth seeing again:
  7. The second violin soloist seems to have things set up so that the hairs of his bow meet the strings of the violin from beneath the strings rather than from above -- this probably was accomplished by undoing the bow hairs beforehand, running them under the strings, and then reattaching them to the bow. The first violin soloist is playing with "one hair," however that's done. That makes sense. I wonder if the first soloist is using a piece of wire - the sound he's producing seems metallic to me.
  8. Really enjoyed that - thanks again, Larry. Does anyone know what the second violin soloist was using as a bow?
  9. There have been reports of Clem being spotted at a Common show with "Alfie."
  10. Should I take the silence as a "no?"
  11. I've been finding the latest (2006) round of these at very reasonable prices and have picked up the Graffman/Prokofiev and the Craft/Schoenberg-Brahms. I'm enjoying both. Are there any in this series which should be avoided?
  12. If the Shout label you're talking about is the British one that mostly reissues soul music, you needn't worry. I have quite a few and they're all licensed from legitimate sources.
  13. Does anyone know if Uptown has plans to reissue this on CD? Since those clips of Don's playing were posted in the Tony Fruscella thread, I've been watching/listening to them constantly. I've also ordered Chuck Wayne's "String Fever" and will be picking it up tomorrow. Can't wait to hear it.
  14. Received mine yesterday. Thanks again, Chuck.
  15. Wow! Carl Fontana is incredible on this. Thanks for posting it.
  16. Looks like David's first employer is still working, and the size of his band has increased!
  17. This is a fascinating bit of history, Nate! Many thanks for posting this. I feel it's worthy of its own thread.
  18. It was mentioned that the 4CD "Bossa Nova Years" box omits tracks from two albums. I know that four tracks are cut from "Getz Au Go Go," but which other album is shorted?
  19. Any chance you'll ever come to Toronto? The two discs I ordered from you a couple of months back have been in constant rotation. Very, very nice stuff!
  20. "City of Glass" (the Graettinger album) is a must. Also, "Easy Go," a compilation of early '50s sides, has some wonderful Art Pepper and Conte Candoli playing on great Gene Roland and Bill Russo charts. As for the '40s stuff, I'd say the Classics CDs are the way to go, with IMO better sound than the Mosaic. I wouldn't worry about missing out on the alternates - they don't add much to the picture.
  21. Received mine last week. Sound quality and packaging are both excellent. And, as EDC says, the music is incredible.
