  3. This just came to me via email. Monty puts on an excellent show! Monty Alexander Celebrates the Music of Jamaica & Trinidad Lords of the West Indies March 7 & 8, 2008 – The Allen Room WHO/WHAT: Jamaican jazz pianist Monty Alexander brings together an ensemble of musicians from neighboring islands and cultures to celebrate the intersection of Caribbean music with jazz. The first half of the program will focus on Trinidadian calypso, while the second half of the program highlights Jamaican mento and will include a singing group featuring banjo, guitar, rumba box and maracas. Mr. Alexander (piano, music director), Hassan Shakur (bass) and Herlin Riley (drums) accompany the best from the islands, including Carlton James a.k.a. "Blackie" (banjo and vocals), Pluto Shervington (guitar and vocals), Dean Fraser (alto sax), David "Happy" Williams (acoustic bass/vocals), Etienne Charles (trumpet), Charles Dougherty (sax), "Designer" (vocals) and Clifton Anderson (trombone). The performance presents a unique opportunity to experience authentic mento, with the inclusion of Joseph Bennett (shaker and vocals), Albert Morgan (rumba box) and Desi Jones (drums/percussion). *** Come early for food and beverage samplings of the Caribbean and live music performances in the Atrium at 7:00pm.*** WHEN: March 7 & 8, 2008, 7:30pm & 9:30pm WHERE: The Allen Room, Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, on Broadway at 60th St., New York City.
