  2. then the photo dates prior to february 1947 as the spotlight was closed by then. since charlie was in california in 1946 i am guessing that the photo is from early 1945.

  4. i'm currently reading (and enjoying) "bird lives! the high life and hard times of charlie (yardbird) parker" by ross russell (founder of dial records). is this the best parker bio out there?
  5. sparrow's last jump was a prize winning short story written by elliott grennard and published in harper's magazine in may 1947. it is supposed to be about charlie parker. can anybody help me find a copy? i would love to read this! as always, a huge thanks in advance!

  7. The pilot broadcast of Legends of Jazz will air tonight (6/16/05) in most markets on PBS and throughout July and August. This is the first of 14 programs that will be aired representing the first jazz series on television in nearly 40 years. Tune in and enjoy.   17. can RVG's treatment of the tapes be that different to mosaics? does the rvg add previously unreleased material?

  19. The question is--for me, at least--whether "Doubletime" was actually a discrete series of issues for BN (a la RVG or Conn), or was merely the designation they briefly gave to any 2-CD set issued in the mid-90's: I had always assumed it was the latter. ←
