  1. I noticed too that both the Evans and Coltrane boxes are now showing on the sale pages. I guess that's a good thing? I see too that they were down to 210 jazz titles and now they are up to 223. Who knows what to think? Either the warehouse is discovering more hidden stock or orders are being cancelled because anxious customers are dying of old age before the orders are processed. Time to hurry up and wait some more. What's the going turn-around time now to receive a shipping notice? I only have 1 item in each order.
  2. I just got notice from The Department of Natural Sciences that the world's glaciers have all moved about 20 feet since I placed my order. I still haven't heard anything about my order shipping. I guess no news may be good news. At least I haven't got an out-of-stock email.
  3. I'm taking a small break before I re-listen to Horace Parlan's set and am giving the Jazz Crusaders a spin. I've loved these guys since the very first time I was exposed to them with "Southern Comfort" back in the 70's. The discovery of the Jazz Crusader's box set is what lead me to the discovery of Mosaic. I had little hope of assembling these great recordings before Mosaic came out with this set. This one is a wondrful answer to this jazz lover's wish!
  4. I just finished up listening to the balance of the Horace Parlan set. I really dig the stuff with Booker Ervin and Grant Green. I can't wait to listen to the entire set again!
  5. While this whole "up-in-the-air" waiting game is a major drag, there's something delicious about the anticipation. Like Ron implied above, it's kind of masochistic.
  6. hmmm....me too. I hope you didn't get the last one! No need to worry--it still shows up on the site, even though several other titles have been removed from the sale pages (including the Evans Riverside box). Yep! Shipped today! Now I'm worried that you got the last one, since my order was placed on 7/24. Then I'm in really tough shape because I didn't order mine until 7/30! I think Concord just wants to keep us guessing. I see they still have the Evans Riverside box listed under Evans' individual recordings when you do a search under his name even though it doesn't show among the sale listings. I still haven't received any out of stock notices (has anyone else?) so I have my fingers crossed and hope to hear something next week or early the following week on both sets.
  7. hmmm....me too. I hope you didn't get the last one! No need to worry--it still shows up on the site, even though several other titles have been removed from the sale pages (including the Evans Riverside box). I'm not sure how to interpret my situation on the Evans Riverside box. It was taken off the site 4-5 days after I ordered it. I'm just hoping it was taken off when it was determined that they would no longer be able to fulfill additional orders. When it takes about 2 weeks to get shipping notification from order date and the item disappears somewhere in the middle it makes a guy wonder. I'm obsessing over this way too much. Still, I'm sure I'll be checking the site every day to see if the Coltrane box is still listed until (if?) I get a shipping notice.
  8. So far, I've only listened to the trio stuff. I have heard Parlan's trio with Stanley Turrentine on one of Mr. T's recordings so I'm really looking forward to hearing him with the Turrentines and Ervin. Isn't Grant Green in there somewhere as well? For me, I wouldn't say that the trio stuff is weaker by comparison, just different. Given a choice, I would probably listen to a quartet or quintet over a trio more often than not because it is a little more interesting with the added layers, interplay and exchanges. The trio has a little more work cut out for them to keep your attention and Parlan's trio passes that test with flying colors. When I'm in the mood for a trio recording, these are surely going to be among the ones I reach for first.
  9. I totally agree with your assessment of the Parlan boxset. I've been listening to it alot lately. As I posted in the 10% off thread, this boxset is killer. It doesn't seem to get the kudos some of the other boxes get, although I really have never seen a bad thing said about it. The trios on the first couple of discs are outstanding. And the boxset really picks up when the Turrentines and Booker Ervin get involved. Definitely one to pick up before it disappears. You're right, this one doesn't seem to get much attention and is definitely a sleeper. It would be a great one to spring on someone who likes jazz but who would say, "Who in the heck is Horace Parlan?" I've listened to the first two discs and there isn't a single "turd in the punchbowl", so to speak. They were 2(+) hours of trio music and I didn't even remotely come close to being bored or disinterested. I generally hate bowed bass solos and there was even one of those that I enjoyed on the 2nd disc. This one seems to be a winner and a definite keeper.
  10. Right now I'm thoroughly enjoying my first run-through of Horace Parlan's set, discs 1 & 2. This set is awesome so far and I haven't even gotten to the Turrentine brothers and Booker Ervin stuff yet! I had never heard of Parlan before I read a lot of positive comments about him and this box set on some jazz forums. Very highly recommended to those who are curious and don't already have this one. It would be a big shame to miss it before it goes out of print.
  11. It sounds like you need to pick up a couple of Red Garland sessions. Your post made me look to see what kind of overlap I had because I planned on selling those CDs. It looks like I only have two CDs that would overlap the set, one Coltrane and one Red Garland recording! I thought I had more Prestige Coltrane but other than those, I have 2 or 3 Atlantics, 1 Impulse and a couple of Blue Notes. Now I'm even more excited to get the set!
  12. zwei=2, tausend=thousand, eins=1 As the earlier poster stated, they are the same, just "2001" is the numerical translation from German.
  13. I was thinking the same thing. I wish the discount was a bit more significant. It basically works out to be free shipping. That small of a discount wouldn't induce me to buy but it's a nice time to act if you already planned to buy a set and were willing to pay full price. Do they ever offer better sales or discounts?
  14. As of today, (Aug. 2nd) the Coltrane Prestige box is still listed on the Concord/Fantasy site but the Bill Evans Riverside box listing disappeared yesterday. My fingers are crossed, I ordered the Evans box 5-6 days ago and the Coltrane box 2-3 days ago. Having to wait so long just to find out if they're going to have enough stock to ship my orders really stinks!
