  1. You didn't specify jazz or not. I'm sorry to say (at least here), but if I could only take one disc it probably wouldn't be jazz. Probably "Blonde on Blonde" or "Highway 61 Revisited." Couldn't live without Dylan. That's, of course, if I were alone on the island. If I had some female companionship, I might have to choose something like Roxy Music's "Avalon" instead. For jazz picks, it would have to be "Mingus Ah Um" if I were solo or "Coltrane for Lovers" if I was looking to hook up with the natives.
  2. Here are some great examples of the googie style... http://www.spaceagecity.com/googie/
  3. Anyone see the recent episode of The Simpsons where Homer moved in with the gay guys? Funny as hell!
  4. That's why they call him Mr. Cranky!
  5. Just read this "review"... Now I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't comment, but this review is funny as hell. By the way, consider it full of SPOILERS!!!! http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/tombraider2.html
  6. According a recent interview, she hasn't had sex in over a year and is ripe for the pickin'... Go get her guys! Personally, while i find her easy on the eyes and a decent actress, she comes with too much baggage that turns me off...

    Mingus Ah Um

I guess it depends on how old you are and whether or not you had to study Latin back in high school.

    Gary Bartz

This is another of the many "discoveries" I've made courtesy of emusic (unlike some of you, I'd never heard the album until a month or so ago). I really dig it and as a result have been checking out a lot of other Bartz from the same period (though I hear the recently released Rare Grooves disc isn't all that good).
  9. What Jim said. Yeah, if you only knew Hope's work from the last 10-20 years, you might wonder what the big deal was. He was a long way from his prime (longevity will do that to you one way or the other). But for many years - christ, decades! - the man was a comedy icon, on radio, stage, TV, and film. I used to drive by his house nearly every day (not as a stalker but on my way to work) and though I never saw even a glimpse of the man I would always think about him and all the joy he'd brought to the world over the years. He wil be dearly missed. For me, he will always be "The Lemon-Drop Kid." Ray
  10. And they say that jazz fails to attract the youngsters...
  11. Let me add: "Little Tootin' Rudely" "Let's Call This (Anything but Jazz)" And while not strictly a Monk tune: "Nice Work if You Can Get It"
  12. On the other hand, the JJJ should be the next one to sell out...
  13. Once you get a satellite dish *properly* installed, you're not supposed to "fiddle" with it. Perhaps that's your neighbor's problem...
  14. When do they jump off the ramps and do the 360-degree spins?
  15. Strange, though, that Weizen and Catesta are tied for most posts about beer...
  16. Is that anything like a "wet willy?"

    Oct conns?

Are there any extra, unreleased tracks on the Rouse? Otherwise I already have this as a JRVG...
  18. I think i missed the sarcasm of the original post. For what it's worth (probably not much to the jazzers here) but I think "True" is a mighty fine early 80s pop album! What's exactly wrong with releasing it on SACD? (I won't buy it, but the original LP is fine by me.)
  19. You mean like "Blue Train" or "A love Supreme?"
  20. Just make sure you keep Webster away from the microwave oven. Sure, he might be gentle now, but a little radiation and...
  21. Uh, LXG was made and released by 20th Century Fox not Disney.
  22. "Jimmy Smith Goes to Washington" is a brilliant title!
  23. If this were a Hollywood movie, Randy and Mandy would fall in love and kiss under the lights when the Pirates and Brewers meet in the World Series...
  24. And are you sure you were just "reading" it?
