  1. Does anyone know if this early BN 10" LP was ever reissued on 12" LP or CD?
  2. I truly believe that Blue Note cover art is one of the reasons that the label has become elevated in status over its Contemporaries. Get it? Contemporary?
  3. PLEASE don't tell me her Basin Street album is fake. See post #16 on the "Fake live albums" thread on "Discography." Thanks, I saw that. I may have to pick up the CD with the real live concert.
  4. Times like these are great to familiarize myself with the great records I already have, rather than constantly dragging new things into the house.
  5. The Golden Sword Everywhere Portraits
  6. Thanks, it sounds tasting. Do a "sitar" search on dustygroove.com and you'll see a lot of cool recent releases of Indian/eastern/bollywood groovy stuff.
  7. Thanks for the quick reply Chris. What sources do you think they used? I'm surprised that they would have had you write the liner notes, yet not take advantage of your knowledge and experience with regard to the tapes and mastering.
  8. The only Bessie Smith I have is on LP, including the 1950s single LP volumes and the double albums from the 70s. I'm curious if different or improved sources were used for the CD masters, and if the sound is significantly different. Also, was any new music found during the CD era that wasn't represented on LP? I realize this is a very broad question, and somewhat subjective. If there has been previous discussion about this that I've missed, feel free to redirect me to that link. Thanks.
  9. Yes, sort of, but with wonderfully warped takes on western music along the way.
  10. How's that? I am very curious. If you dig 70s funky grooves with sitar and tabla, it's right up your alley.
  11. I've read conflicting reports of Gil Evans's involvement with this album. Are those his arrangements, or are they the arrangements of the two featured composers?
  12. Gil Evans - Into the Hot - Impulse (stereo, MCA reissue)
  13. Various Artistes - Bombay the Hard Way (Motel) Grooves from 70s Bollywood flicks.
  14. My vibraphone player has a mono copy of this also. I need to burn it to a CD.
  15. That's what always cracks me up about electronica artists live. The guy's sitting there with a laptop, and for all the audience knows, he could be checking his eBay auctions while iTunes is playing.
  16. I'm really more interested in non-rock albums, although I'm guilty of the Yardbirds post in this thread. I don't think the Hoffmann forums even knew about jazz until those overpriced Blue Note 45s LOL!
  17. I am OBSESSED with Hubert Laws's cover of "Fire and Rain" on the CTI album "Afro Classics." Few recordings capture that spirit of introspective early 70s decadence like that one!
  18. I think that's the one I meant. The one with the off-mic solo for 29 choruses or whatever?
  19. Ellington at Newport '58 was studio, right? The LP I mean, not the CD.
  20. Were the "live" Art Tatum albums on GNP real or fake?
  21. Slightly off topic, but very funny: The Yardbirds' last concert was briefly available on an Epic LP. They beefed up the crowd noise with, among other things, cheers from bullfights and cocktail lounge sounds!
  22. My recent thread about the Peggy Lee/George Shearing "Beauty and the Beat" inspired this thread. What are some of the fake "live" albums that have been released? I don't mean rock albums recorded on 24-tracks where they added a horn section later in the studio. I mean studio dates passed off as live dates. 1. Beauty and the Beat - Peggy Lee/George Shearing (Capitol). 2. - and correct me if I'm wrong - Machito at the Crescendo (GNP). Let's hear more...
  23. PLEASE don't tell me her Basin Street album is fake. Is the Machito live at the Crescendo album fake live? It sure sounds it.
