  1. Martin Denny trumps all in this category. California is the midwest compared to Hawaii. If you get any further west than Hawaii, you're in the far east.
  2. I don't see how quoting what every Zappa fan I've ever met has told me in life counts as comedy. (though, if I ever see any of them again, I'll have to confess that they were right about Hot Rats...) I've got to test out my new material someplace. I'm playing the Pokonos New Year's Eve, opening for Shecky Green.
  3. Got my wife the expanded reissue of the first Small Faces album on Immediate. Has the mono and stereo mixes of all tracks on the US and UK version. THE MONO MIXES - many of which I'd never heard before - KICK!!!!
  4. Popular Electronics! 4 CD box set of Kid Baltan, Tom Dissevelt, and everyone else connected with Dutch Natlab!
  5. Those WHO left us.
  6. You would have to be able to provide the key that the recording should be in. And then you'd need to verify that the musicians were actually in tune at the time of the recording. Beyond this, there is no consensus on what constitutes "perfect pitch."
  7. Can't stand Carmina.
  8. Frank Zappa does not suck. You just haven't heard the right album: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/32818
  9. "Out to Lunch" is a very apt phrase to describe those who are buying these overpriced releases. There's a sucker born every minute.
  10. If he had done nothing other than those "How to Strip for Your Husband" or "How do Belly Dance for Your Husband" albums, he'd have earned a permanent spot in my vinyl accumulation. But then, there are all those albums on Solid State, like "Exotica 70" by the Kokee Band. AND THEN there are all those amazing funky groovy maroon velvet De Courvoisier albums on Groove merchant. What a BADASS MOFO that Sonny Lester is! Or was.
  11. Heathcliff was a neighborhood stray who was in pretty rough shape when he showed up. We started feeding him regularly and he parked himself right on the doormat on the front porch. We literally tripped over him coming home or leaving - he was always there. He was soon looking a lot healthier and was the friendliest cat. My wife named him Heathcliff because the name had all the letters of "health" in it. I finally got my act together to take him in for shots, but he tested positive for feline leukemia and feline AIDS. I hope I did the right thing, for the sake of our other cats and those in the neighborhood.
  12. I had to say goodbye to a very sweet cat today by the name of Heathcliff.
  13. The first few years of the Johnny Carson era, up until about 1970 or 71, are lost also. Carson reportedly went through the roof when he found out they were gone; he'd assumed they'd all been archived. When we perfect space travel at warp speeds, of course, we'll be able to go faster than broadcast waves and caprture lost shows from out in space when they arrive.
  14. Celing cat sez expand yur mind LOL
  15. kthxbai
  16. that's a great point, will you go out on a date with me LOL?
  17. Agree 100%, LOL
  18. Haz to be akyurat, kthnxbai. Jazz guyz onlee LOL
  19. Yma Sumac
  20. The question is who left us in the jazz community. The fact that he was in a movie scored by THEE GREAT KENYON HOPKINS earns him a higher place in the jazz community than some folks who are labeled jazz musicians. IMHO.
  21. Paul Newman
  22. That was a real steal! A box set for only $199.
  23. Because you DOUBLE the amount of groove distortion with vinyl to vinyl. Vinyl to CD has the potential of sounding good if it's done right. I've never heard of Andorran until this thread, so I wouldn't know. I do know that LPs mastered from LPs generally do not sound all that great, at least from some specific examples I can site. I'll opt for the CD issue in these instances.
  24. For what it's worth, it's pretty easy to tell when vinyl is mastered from vinyl (groove distortion on the inner grooves, for starters). I have no issue philosophically with CDs mastered from vinyl, but I really can't stand vinyl mastered from vinyl.
