  1. Thanks. I'll have to check this out...
  2. Greetings - I have the Verve album "Willow Weep for Me" drawn from live summer/fall 1965 Half Note sessions with horn/woodwind overdubs arranged by Claus Ogerman. While I really like Ogerman, I think it was an odd choice to overdub these arrangements over a live session. So, I'm wondering if these sessions have been released on LP or CD WITHOUT the overdubs...
  3. What's the music like? NP: Willow Weep for Me - Wes Montgomery - Verve stereo
  4. I will agree with you that "Breeze from the East" is probably the weakest CT album. BUT: "Several Shades of Jade" is a FLAWLESS album. Truthfully, it's more of a Lalo Schifrin album with Cal in a soloist role, and while it may not be representative of his typical work, it's a terrific album nonetheless. The liner notes to the CD incidentally have nothing bad to say about "Jade," only "Breeze." And I will respectfully disagree with the "bad spy movie music assessment." There are NO BAD Lalo Schifrin albums, Rush Hour soundtracks notwithstanding. GOOD spy movie music album is every bit as good as jazz (They don't call me "Teasing the Korean" for nothing). It's really too bad these two were paired together on CD. There are only a couple of listenable cuts on Breeze, and those few should have simply been added as bonus tracks to "Jade."
  5. 500 Miles High - Flora Purim at Montreux, 1974 (Milestone)
  6. I meant only a similar tune selections, go-go drumbeats, instrumentation, and "live in the studio" feel.
  7. Introducing the Afro Blues Quintet Plus One - Mira mono. Sounds like a Chris Montez album without vocals!
  8. He is involved, but it's a group project featuring funky big band with lots of flute. The main participants are JT, Buddy Scott and Frank Thomas (Joe's bro). This one is right up your alley MG, methinks...
  9. Moog Fluting - The Ebony Godfather - GRC BADASS album from 1974...
  10. Singers Unlimited - Invitiation - MPS The Carnival - Imperial stereo
  11. The version I have has the LP sequence followed by the same tracks minus the reverb.
  12. Quincy Jones - $ OST - Reprise That 70s Sound!
  13. Presenting Yma Sumac in a Collection of Early Recordings - Coral mono 10" Hard to find collection of recordings made in Argentina predating her US Capitol albums.
  14. Cal Tjader - Latin Kick (Fantasy mono) Gorgeous version of "Invitation!"
  15. Mambo with Tjader - Fantasy - mono reprocessed for stereo, unfortunately. At least it stays in phase with the mono button.
  16. Bola Sete - Tour de Force - Fantasy stereo
  17. The Further Adventures of El Chico - Chico Hamilton - Impulse! stereo (with the great Gabor Szabo)
  18. I take it they're not on that one.
  19. Thanks. I've got that double LP. It's long overdue for a spin.
  20. "Leonard Feather presents THE SOUND OF FEELING! ...and Oliver Nelson." (sounds like a Crown title; but it's a) Verve MONO promo. One side is by the Sound of Feeling; One side by Oliver Nelson. Whatever happened to those gals?
  21. I will defer to your expertise on that one. There are other cases, though, where they would issue an album such as: "CHARLIE PARKER! ...and Shep's Banjo Boys." It would include 2 Charlie Parker tunes recorded as demos 10 years earlier. And 8 tunes by Shep's Banjo Boys. BTW, for all you Charlie Parker completists, this a FICTIONAL EXAMPLE.
  22. Amazing that a vinyl geek was able to score even a girlfriend, let alone a wife.
  23. I believe there were some original recordings done for Crown, some of which are very good. These include Milk Raskin's "Kapu" and the Latin Jazz All Star's "Jazz Heat Bongo Beat," a true beatnik/bongo classic. But, yes, any album on Crown by a name artist is dodgy.
  24. Yes. a. Buy a second mint copy of the LP. b. Lay the two records side by side. c. scratch vinyl out from the mint record that is in exactly the same place, and the same length and depth as the scratches from the original scratched LP. d. carefully super glue these tiny pieces of vinyl into the gouged sections of the original LP. They should fit perfectly. e. VOILA! You have a mint record. NOTE: Do not try this on your scratched Phil Collins LPs.
  25. Katanga! Does the music sound anything like the cover looks?
