  1. I do too, it gives it more of a creepy, noir quality. That said, it's nice to have the option to listen to the tracks dry.
  2. Spellbound: The Classic Film Scores of Miklos Rozsa - Charles Gerhardt & the National Philharmonic - RCA Red Seal Rozsa volume from what is perhaps the greatest ever anthology series of classic Hollywood film soundtracks, superbly recorded.
  3. Debussy Nocturnes - Monteux & BSO - Victrola mono
  4. Percussion Music - New Jersey Percussion Ensemble - Nonesuch stereo Works by Varese, Cowell, et. al.
  5. Dean Martin did a couple of jazz-tinged albums, such as "The Intimate Dean Martin" on Reprise, just him and a rhythm section.
  6. The Monday - Friday Matchgame shows were all taped at a single session. They would start drinking at the beginning and be sloshed by the end. So, when the shows were originally aired, they would get progressively intoxicated as the week went on. Those were the days...
  7. Remember her??? She is my ROLE MODEL! Time for a drink...
  8. Deodato/Airto - In Concert - CTI
  9. Now that has to be one of the GREAT smart-arse remarks of the year! MG Robert Seigel said to him that this was the only time he'd read a book by a high-ranking government official who describes being in rooms filled with marijauna smoke!
  10. I wish I were The Magnificent Goldberg. He gets to listen to groovy rekkids all day long!
  11. There was a period in which, if I had something on CD and then found it on LP, I would burn the CD onto a CD-R and unload it. It makes sense on one level, but the more time that goes by, the more undependable CD playing devices become. So, I wish I had some of them after all.
  12. Ever heard his soundtrack to "Bedazzled?" One of the very best soundtracks of the 1960s. "The Millionaire" and "Lillian Lust," for starters, are very solid compositions with interesting arrangements and nice playing. A lot of working jazz artists would be lucky to make an album as cool as this.
  13. He was interviewed on "All Things Considered." Robert Siegel asked about his jazz days. He said he's out of practice on wind instruments, but picks one up every so often and sounds lousy. He plays piano though, and can recognized the smell of pot from great distances.
  14. A second vote for insanity.
  15. Am I the only one who finds your reaction presumptuous and judgmental?
  16. In a bar, although she remembers seeing me at a party prior. She supports my jazz habit - both playing it and lugging LPs into the house. She's responsible for a good number of the LPs, too. Once we merged our record collections and unloaded the duplicates, I knew it was forever.
  17. It doesn't matter what you name your cats. I can assure you, you'll come up 50 ridiculous pet names for each of them, and you'll rarely call them by their real names.
  18. How do any of us get scratches, bruises, or wrinkles? Eternal perfection does not seem to be part of the Creator's Master Plan.
  19. Boulez conducts Varese (NY Phil) - Columbia stereo
  20. Yeah, but the people who did hear them weren't cool enough to have received "Rain Forest" for Christmas in 1966. So no loss!
  21. Led Zeppelin has agreed to open for them.
  22. Fine record, as is the other side. My favorite recordings of these works. Funny you mention that. I liked it so much, I decided to spin another version right afterwards, on Everest (forget the conductor). This version was nowhere near as good. I have a 10" with Bernstein conducting it too. Haven't played it, but I love the cover art!
  23. I realize, of course, that you guys are not saying Dudley sucked.
