  1. Recently I picked up a bunch of Revelation LPs for short dough, including a bunch of Clare Fischer! This was one of 'em.
  2. Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left - Hannibal Reissue
  3. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I LOVE MONTARA!!! I love Medina, too...
  4. I can e-mail you a scan, if you like.
  5. Manny Albam did an album for Impulse of movie themes. Nothing wrong with this in theory; its just that it had the most dumbed-down, vanilla arrangements I ever heard him do. (Assuming an A&R guy was behind this).
  6. YOU WON THE CONTEST! You were the first to name a record I like!
  7. I don't really dislike the Rouse; it has its moments, it's just not great like I'd hoped it would be. Never heard Bossa Nova Soul Samba! Is it on CD?
  8. I'm bracing myself for an album I love to show up on this list...It's bound to happen.
  9. I especially like the high exotica quotient on "Sorcery."
  10. Sabu made better percussion albums during this period, such as "Sorcery" on Columbia and "Safari with Sabu" on Vik (RCA subsidiary). Being into percussion, I have both "Orgy in Rhythm" and "African Beat" by Art Blakey. I like the latter more for an overall complete listening experience. Orgy is good but it's a bit much at one sitting. Still never heard his "Holiday for Skins" albums. The Solomon Ilori was a disappointment, but the three bonus tracks on there - almost a complete album from a later jazzier session - are the reason I've held onto it. Being heavily into latin jazz, two Blue Notes that disappointed me are "The Latin Bit" by Grant Green" and "Bossa Nova Bacchanal" by Charlie Rouse. Both records overall sound like they're going through the motions to crank out a quick latin record. Both have a couple of tracks that I like more than others, but I don't spin them often.
  11. If you don't have it cataloged and insured based on the value and condition of titles, they will give you a flat rate based on number of LPs multiplied by a small amount.
  12. Thanks for the resonses. Wasn't there also some issue that had to do with either musicians unions, ASCAP/BMI, or the venues? I remember hearing something about this but I'm unsure of the details.
  13. Maybe a Jazz 101 question, but I've never been fully clear on why the big bands "died" in the postwar era, at least as live performing units. Is there a general consensus as to why this happened? Clue me in...
  14. Much appreciation.
  15. I'd LOVE to know about the status of his TV soundtracks, and if any of these might ever be released. EDIT: Even if they can't be released for contractual reasons, I'd like to know if his family at least has the isolated scores of any of these shows on tape.
  16. Dizzy Gillespie - 16 Rare Performances - RCA Vintage Series (mono)
  17. I love "Skull Session."
  18. Honestly I don't know of his work beyond this group. I love those early 60s bossa piano trios, though - Milton Banana, Sergio Mendes, Os Bossa Tres, etc.
  19. Luis Parga was the pianist in that group, though Sergio led a similar trio during that time.
  20. Gerry Mulligan - Paris Concert - Pacific Jazz, mono w/Bob Brookmeyer
  21. Eddie Harris, Exodus to Jazz, Vee Jay (Mono) Really diggin' this one!
  22. Toquinho & Vinicius - Um Pouco de Ilusao
  23. What prompted the review in the first place? Has "Let's Get Lost" finally come out on DVD?
  24. George Russell Sextet Live in KC - Decca (stereo)
