  1. A buddy of mine just bought a really sweet McIntosh 275 amp, and wants to build a turntable in the $750 to $1000 range. Can you cats give me some good recs for a TT and cartridge that would be within that budget, or maybe a little above?
  2. You mean a FM transmitter?
  3. I can tell you with my 32 pin USB connector for my iPod in my Juke the stereo controls act exactly as they do with the CD player. I'd have to think the flash drive would work the same way.
  4. That's excellent to know. I already knew 256kbps VBR was indistinguishable, but I wasn't entirely sure about bitrates in that 190-250kbps range. Thanks for the info!
  5. Interesting. So if I'm all of that correctly, including the table it linked to, the median bitrate is 220kbps?
  6. Yeah, I understand that. Luckily I have a 4x4, so I was able to get the 6spd. The difference between the two is rather astonishing, but like you said, the CVT is no slouch and the all wheel vectoring does improve handling quite a bit. So there are trade offs either way you go, but a Juke is a Juke. And they are fun as hell. I refer to it as my urban assault vehicle.
  7. I had to use older Macs running OS 9 at work, so I avoided Apple at home because I found OS 9 to be an absolute nightmare. Plus, I always felt Apple products were overpriced. It wasn't until I spent time with that iPod, admiring the absurdly high build quality, that I finally converted. That and the disaster that was Windows Vista drove me completely into the arms of Apple. Did you get the CVT, or 6spd manual?
  8. ??? What is that? I know what mp3 and VBR are, but Q1? Oddly enough, my Juke came with an iPod connection inmthe glove compartment. Up to that point I had never owned any Apple gear. I eventually broke down and sprung for an iPod Touch. Now every computer and device I own is Apple!
  9. Even God Only Knows?
  10. I convert all my audio down to 256, and I can still fit enough music on there to play continuously for at least 48 hours. I think you are probably right about 128 being enough for car audio, though.
  11. Just think, those compilation discs ae what we now call playlists. And you could make hundreds of them by simply dragging and dropping. You speak of it being a hassle, yet you could create those playlists just as quickly as you create the compilation list, and blow them to your phone in a fraction of the time it took to burn the disc. Not to mention you can carry all of them with you every day, everywhere you go. Just think, those compilation discs ae what we now call playlists. 12. Brad, it's not so much swimming against the tide, which I'd support 110%! It's simply lack of information (not meant disparagingly). In the time it took you to load that 6 disc changer (I had one in my '95 Del Sol), I could set up 50 albums to play, and in the order I wanted to play them, on my phone. Just as an example, let's say we were both taking a road trip.
  13. Unfortunately, no. I'm not sure any of those exist anymore. But, I could be wrong.
  14. Near analog? CD regression...
  15. No, if you back up your phone in iTunes, you're backing it up to your computer, not to the cloud. You don't have to use the cloud at all. I don't. Not for my phone anyway. I'd say you're doing it perfectly!
  16. Oh no! Not at all. Simply backup your phone in iTunes, restore it, and then it will ask if you want to reset it to factory settings, OR restore it from your save. Choose that and it will put everything back on it that you saved...EXCEPT all of the temporary files and bullshit that have been piling up on it. Based on what you are saying, I'm guessing you have anywhere from 3 to 5GB worth of trash on your phone. Possibly more. I restore mine at least twice a year and usually free up a gig or two every time. And no, you won't have to write anything down as your apps will all be part of your backup. As will your photos, music, etc... I really encourage you to do it. If nothing else, it will likely help out the performance issue you mentioned. Then you can remain a Luddite, but with a better functioning phone!
  17. I'm going to invest in Bluetooth earbuds soon, as well. And here I was not so long ago raising hell because the iPhone 7 didn't come with a headphone jack... So I can understand the technophobe angle. But these advances don't grow in popularity because they're an inconvenience.
  18. Have you ever restored your phone? Based on your top ten apps, you should have a shitload of room left! You're only showing less than 6GB being used. Which tells me you've got a TON of garbage built up.
  19. You can set up as many albums as you want to play before even starting the car. Then you don't have to mess with anything. Next time you have to look at your phone is when you go to grab it before you get out of the car. But hey, I'm not going to stand in the way of your Luddism. I'm just saying... Now, if you have a 200 disc-changer in your trunk, I suppose you could pull off the same feat that you could with your phone. But guess which one is easier to load/unload? You're not missing anything...
  20. If you can only hold 10 albums on an iPhone 5, you are doing it wrong. Really, really wrong. 16GB is capable of holding around 200 albums at 256K. If all those apps are that vital, you can still delete them and download them over cellular if needed. Either way, you should be able to fit a LOT more than 10 albums on your phone. catesta, I have about 80 albums on my phone. Do you have 80 CDs in your car? Trying to argue that playing music via Bluetooth isn't far more convenient than CDs is just lunacy.
  21. You might want to find new avenues in the future, though. Nearly one quarter of all new cars do not come with CD players. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2015-11-06/a-relic-is-disappearing-finally-from-car-dashboards-in-america Most, including myself, find them inconvenient in the age of Bluetooth. Just put your music on your phone and play it through your car stereo. Why have to fiddle around with CDs?
  22. Actually, many new cars do not come with CD players. You can get them as an option, but they aren't standard issue like they once were.
  23. I just had a brief pm exchange today, so the function is actually working.
  24. I think they key word in all of that is "was". If it isn't now, which I think is highly debatable, that doesn't mean that it wasn't then. Jazz was once popular music. Just because it's more a niche genre now doesn't change that. That history is already written and settled.
  25. What was more dominant in the cultural landscape?
