  1. My pleasure, brother. There are a ton of excellent options out there. BTW, I see I put the wrong link up for the Pioneers. Here's the one I meant to post. https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-SP-BS22-LR-Designed-Bookshelf-Loudspeakers/dp/B008NCD2LG I'll change it above as well.
  2. They're fucking outstanding! Pioneer SP-BS22-LR https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-SP-BS22-LR-Designed-Bookshelf-Loudspeakers/dp/B008NCD2LG
  3. What's your budget?
  4. Right, but would you actually use that argument in a conversation with other fans? I sure as hell wouldn't, because I'd have no way to explain what the hell I was talking about. Also, just because they traded for him on the basis of his WAR and he ended up having a good season, what does that ultimately prove? Do we need a refresher on the correlation/causation dichotomy?
  5. That's why I prefer averages instead of theoretical computations. So how, exactly, is WAR calculated? And no links, just lay it out as you understand it, please.
  6. The fact that it's so friggin convoluted, and has to be cross-referenced with other stats for it to mean anything. I don't know if this is what Milestones is getting at, but while it MAY be a useful statistic for front offices, it's essentially useless for the average fan. Perhaps even the above average fan. Yet, that's the first stat many fans love to trot out as though it's some kind of trump card in a baseball discussion.
  7. Isn't that the problem to begin with?
  8. I meant average stats as in numbers derived from averages.
  9. Agreed. Give me average stats. That's all that's necessary.
  10. Yeah, but the best teams win more three game series than they lose. So that doesn't count when the series are 5 and 7 games? I don't buy into the best team rarely wins it all thing.
  11. Well, in the NFL there's Don Coryell. He's pretty much the founder of the wide open passing attack that now rules the game.
  12. And then there's that... There isn't a team in MLB that doesn't have a dedicated sabermetrician in their front office. My only question remains: if Moneyball is all it's cracked up to be, why haven't the A's won a World Series since it became popular?
  13. It's not that I'm not a vinyl guy, I just prefer the most accurate representation of sound. That's all. And I actually DO have an idea of how good those recordings could sound. Just that I know the RVG editions were not it. It's funny, I have an old musician buddy of mine that built a pretty decent digital studio in his garage many moons ago. He's pushing 70, and when I went back to Florida a few years ago he brought me into his studio and was playing back some mixes that he'd done. Even in my 40's, with the degraded hearing associated with my age, the high end he had mixed into his material was just short of excruciating. And it's exactly what I hear in the RVG editions. An older, but still quality, ear that simply can't hear the highs as it once did. Now, I'll probably never buy any of the XRCDs, but I can fully appreciate the fact that a better ear returned them to what they could potentially sound like. And that's a very good thing.
  14. I've always thought the RVG's were kind of a slap in the face. The nearly nonexistent low end, and way over the top high end plagued many of those releases. Glad to hear the mastering on the XRCDs has seemed to remedy that.
  15. I think most "next gen" stats are laughable. WAR being the leader in the clubhouse.
  16. Ah, gotcha. Well, have fun. Let us know which you think are the definitive versions.
  17. Only problem being that my wife and I don't have seperate bank accounts. Ain't no strategy possible for getting around that! ? Why would you need to? Aren't they all different masters?
  18. I reckon. But after my wife kills me, there are no guarantees on the condition of said records. They may be next. Or buried in the backyard with me...
  19. Holy moly! You be reading my obituary if I ever ordered that many CDs at once!
  20. Cassette sales really took a chunk out of LP sales around that point, IIRC.
  21. Sounds like Mr. Yoshida must be an outstanding mastering engineer. He also mastered the latest Paul McCartney "best of", which I've heard rave reviews of.
  22. Interesting. So perhaps this was just a blip that needed market correction, along the lines of what happened when Napster became a huge hit. Interesting. So perhaps this was just a blip that needed market correction, along the lines of what happened when Napster became a huge hit.
  23. It's a fantastic outing. Very free floating and plaintive. I actually just found out about it this evening.
  24. No one in particular, but today a lot of Tortoise and Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Tomorrow I may check out The Declaration Of Musical Independence from the Andrew Cyrille Quartet.
  25. Wow... I feel kinda bad, but have to admit I find nothing really inspirational there. The Halverson piece is bouncy and interesting, but everything just seems to be paint by numbers Jazz.
