  1. Next year: 8-tracks, baby!
  2. That article is behind a paywall, but I think I can boil it down to its essence: "The painfully obvious flaw in our Air Pods was somehow discovered by the rest of the world, and demand simply isn't there. And we don't want to suffer the outrage and embarrassment, that will define this product, during the holiday season. Something like this certainly won't sink the company, but it is going to be a huge black mark on their history, IMO.
  3. How can I unwatch that video?
  4. Al! Are you on Facebook yet? Always great to see you around.
  5. I wished I looked that good now.
  6. Me, too! Excellent job, GQ!
  7. We only saw the first two episodes, but it struck me as little more than medieval soft porn. Will have to give it another try when we've got time to really delve into it.
  8. Holy fuck. Had to bail after Brilliant Corners. That album truly is as bad as advertised. And I didn't even finish it. I have no idea what the fuck this even is. But I like it! I am a huge fan of Rouse when he played with Monk. This is definitely a left turn from that.
  9. Wow... Listening to this one on Spotify as I type this. The seemingly misplaced Oliver Nelson arrangements aside, there have already been several times where Monk...just doesn't even sound like Monk. The opening to Reflections is an outright abomination. If Monk had retired to playing nightly in Las Vegas, I believe this is what it would have sounded like...
  10. Not to mention that using Dolphy as an example doesn't work that well because while he himself was WAY out there (for the time), he usually played over a fairly "straight" rhythm section. Out To Lunch would actually be considered an out of character recording for him, no?
  11. Why would you refer to them as walls?
  12. The only problem with FM transmitters is the sound quality takes a major hit.
  13. If the two previous episodes are any indication, the finale has GOT to be unbelievable. I agree with Lon, great season. By far the best show I've seen in a really long time. When I first saw the original movie I thought the concept was awesome, but could just imagine how much better it would have been in the right hands. This first season proved my assumptions correct. It's in the right hands. Hopefully my wife and I will get a chance to sit down and watch the finale this evening. Worst part? Season 2 isn't set to hit the airwaves (can we still call them that?!) until some time in 2018. Gonna be a long, slow, painful wait... I have to admit, having soaked in the season piece by piece, I can't imagine the Herculean mental task of trying to decode that story in a binge!
  14. Holy moly. Having not heard this, I believe we have a winner! Bailey is still one player I can't quite wrap my head around. But imagining him playing ballads is even harder to wrap my head around. What's next?! Peter Brötzmann plays Captain and Tennille? Not that it really qualifies for this discussion, but I've always been intrigued to hear what the Lady Gaga/Tony Bennett album sounds like. I read some very positive reviews of it. Reading of pairings such as this, and the earlier Lawrence Welk made me think of that album.
  15. HA! I had completely forgotten about Rollins being on there. Haven't listened to that album in a long time. Little T&A might have been their last classic. I actually thought there were some really great tunes on Steel Wheels. All the singles from that album were strong, IMO. The rest was filler. Kind of a latter day It's Only Rock And Roll.
  16. Yeah, it all ended up being a very convoluted process. Ended up being some kind of weird three way trade between Ras, Dennis Gonzalez, and myself. Ras recorded the LP's to cassette and sent them to me as a trade for something. I didn't have a cassette player at the time, but figured fuck it. I told Dennis about the cassettes at some point and he told me to send them to him and he'd put them on CD. So he kept the cassettes, sent me the CD's, then I made copies of those and sent some back to Ras. Crazy. And now I have no idea where the hell my copies are...
  17. That's a hell of an odd pairing, no question. I wish I could find my Frank Wright discs that Ras Moshe sent me many moons ago. All OOP at the time (I'm assuming they still are). Wild shit. And that was back when I was deep in the heart of listening to wild shit.
  18. I swear I must hear this album, now! Yeah, that's an era of his music I just never heard. I was only familiar with his fire breathing of the 60's and early 70's. I got into other things, and just kind of wrote him off as the pure energy music I was used to hearing rom him. I do have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed that album, though. Listened to it twice yesterday morning. His playing was very enjoyable. And Henderson was just ripping it up. Excellent group, excellent recording. A buddy at work who most definitely was NOT a fan of earlier Pharoah hipped me to it. BTW, read the AMG review of this one yesterday. Sounds as though the review is far more entertaining than the album. *spoiler alert* They weren't terribly impressed.
  19. That's interesting. I actually don't have that album in my collection. Though I will admit that I'm a much bigger fan of Monk's Columbia output than most seem to be. I'm also shocked to see Oliver Nelson and hack used in the same sentence.
  20. The End The ultimate example of a solution looking for a problem.
  21. Yeah, I wasn't familiar with the concept until I got all my Emotiva gear a few years ago.
  22. I get that, I really do. But earbuds simply are not meant to be wireless the way they so easily fall out of your ears. Unless you're one of the rare birds that only uses buds while sitting motionless in a chair, buds will be lost, broken, etc. without some form of clip or tether. Another problem being that higher end buds may not switch to Bluetooth any time soon.
  23. They are 3.5mm jacks that you can connect seperate components with, and they'll send a trigger signal. For example: my preamp is wired to my amp, which is wired to my DAC. So, the only thing I have to do is hit the power button on the preamp remote. Preamp comes on, triggers the amp to come on, which triggers the DAC to come on. Same thing to turn them all off. Hit "standby" on the preamp remote, preamp shuts down, then the amp shuts down, then the DAC shuts down. Pretty sweet!
  24. I wonder. Google didn't do it with their Pixel, and made it a big part of their marketing campaign. I personally think it's going to be a huge bust. Just let enough folks lose those $175 Bluetooth buds Apple is coming out with. Unless they make them all with over the ear clips, that technology will die a quick and painful death. I'm hoping it has completely blown up in their faces before I need a new phone. If it hasn't, I may end up carrying a Pixel in my pocket.
  25. It's truly amazing what they"re building into receivers these days! They're damn near their own computer systems now. Glad to see they're putting triggers on them now. Those are the greatest inventions EVER in the audio world!
