  1. I'll say this: it certainly seems to be a really polarizing movie. I've either heard that it's a travesty, or a fun watch, with little in between. The trailer didn't excite me, but I'm sure I'll eventually watch it. Looks a little too buddy cop-ish, which I'm not a fan of. But, it's about Miles, who I'm a huge fan of. I'll go in with incredibly low expectations. That might help.
  2. As if ANY of that matters.

I went back and listened to Roundabout, as I hadn't heard it in forever. Your assessment of it is spot on. What a bass line! It's probably the only Yes tune I ever truly loved. I preferred their more succinct tunes, like that one. I briefly liked Tales From Topographic Oceans, but my Prog-y slog-y phase didn't last long. Which is actually kind of odd considering how much I got into Zappa many years later, and then Phish some time after that. I also remember really liking Brother Of Mine from Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe.
  4. His album, Faith, was so huge in the 80's that even most of my Heavy Metal buddies had a copy of it. Though I never considered myself a fan, I still have Freedom! '90 on one of my play lists. That's a wonderful Pop tune.
  5. I hope everyone enjoys their holiday season. Don't eat too m... Eh, never mind. Live it up for the day! We went minimalist this year. I got a toolbox! Couldn't be happier.

Ugh...that's truly unfortunate. I'm pretty sure Aspergers is a prerequisite for posting there.

Thanks, brother. Though, I'm not even sure their takes are literal at all. Limiting, to be sure, but they seem more a sneering personal opinion. Who knew the term "timeless music" could be so controversial?!

Not in my book. As I've now explained twice.

For Christ sake... Look, my personal definition of timeless, once again, is that you can listen to it now and not be able to place it within a certain era. For example, Jim somehow fell ass backwards into mentioning Winter Wonderland. Have you heard the Andrews Sisters version of that song? Pretty easy to place it within a certain era, right? It's not like you're going to potentially wonder if it came out in the 70's, or the 90's. Yet with Kind Of Blue, if you are simply a casual fan, which era could you place it in? Well hell, there have been cats putting out similar albums for nearly 60 years now. So hell, it could have come out in the 80's, or possibly in the new century. That's what makes it timeless, IMO. It has nothing to do with taste, or any of the other semi-condescending bullshit you posted.

Tip? Sure, why not? You can't take it with you. Neither can they. Be a badass and go 120%. They'll never forget you. Or remember, for that matter. Lots of Pink Floyd on the jukebox for your listening pleasure. Don't scrimp on The Final Cut. It's end of the universe with a beat!

I've always thought the definition of timeless, when speaking of music, was that you can listen to something and not be able to tie it to a certain era. That's why I mentioned Pink Floyd as an example. They were so far ahead of their time that even now it's hard to listen to a lot of their music and say, "yep, quintessential 70's!" With Yes, unfortunately, I think you can. Not that any of it is bad, it just really shows its age. Oddly enough, my favorite tune of theirs is City Of Love from the otherwise horrendous Big Generator. That song would be a good example of timeless, as you could easily image it having come from the 70's, 80's, and 90's.

Hmmm...I'm not so sure about that assertion. For example, isn't Kind Of Blue timeless? Aren't most Classical pieces timeless?
  13. I have to admit that even though I scoff at those who claim they can hear a difference between CD/lossless and 256 AAC, these results are very shocking. I'll have to try this one when I get the time to. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UrfX-g8auc8

    Yes

It really has nothing to do with the mastering, or the medium. It has to do with the music itself.
  15. Sucks too, because those were beautiful units that fit in seamlessly with your components. I did find this. Even though it has that one ugly outlet on the front. Still better than noting, I guess. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_299MR4000/Panamax-MR4000.html

Oh, I find nothing timeless about them at all. All of their stuff sounds incredibly dated, and locked within that particular era. I think it's become harder and harder to find any timeless Rock/Pop music. Pink Floyd was for a long, long time. But not so much any more. Though I may have a more narrow definition of timeless music than others.

It's almost as though I typed that post. It sums up my feelings about Yes so perfectly that I can't add anything more.
  18. This has become somewhat of a big thing recently. Kurt Russell in the last Tron movie, Peter Cushing in the new Star Wars movie, Anthony Hopkins in Westworld... While it's dazzling and interesting, it makes me wonder...are there any kind of legal/IP problems down the road? I'm assuming Peter Cushing's family/trust gave Disney and Lucasfilms the thumbs up. But, that's just an assumption. What if a studio went forward without either asking, or receiving permission? Would they have rights to the actor's image and voice?
  19. Very odd. I wonder why they stopped putting those on subsequent models. It's funny, I'd actually have no use for either of those features with my current system, but find it odd they'd regress in their models like that. Maybe most folks didn't need them either? Did you use either of them? Just as confusing is why they completely discontinued that line, and never replaced it...
  20. That's interesting. My Monster Power Center doesn't have a remote control, or a mini trigger. What model are you using? Mine is the HTS1600 shelf mount unit.
  21. Yeah, I have no idea how long the technology has been around. I don't remember having triggers on any of my previous CD or DVD players. Perhaps they were only a feature on slightly higher end makes, like McIntosh, for example. Still a really cool discovery for me, no matter how old the technology!
  22. K-Tel records started out on TV, but as with everything "As Seen On TV", you could buy them in stores a month later. Our local Kmart had an end cap in their music section that was nothing but K-Tel records.
  23. I look forward to moving along to Magical Mystery Tour. That said, I can't look away. Yours truly, Redrubbernecker
  24. They're all so safe, you wouldn't believe it!
