One of my favorite Cannonball albums. Cool cover too which looks great in all it's 12 X 12 inch glory.

I would agree with this sentiment. I describe this part of Bill's career as Americana to seperate it from his jazz when I'm discussing his music with others, but I just see it as his own little world of mixing a lot of his influences together as opposed to trying to be true to a particular genre. If I want country, I'll listen to Merle or Lefty. A year or so ago I saw Bill perform in a duo with Greg Leisz (pedal steel and lap steel). It was one of the most beautiful performances I've ever heard. They were obviously making things up as they went along, from choosing songs to their solos and everyone just sat there quietly drinking it all in.

R.I.P. At the end of,"You Wear It Well" it sounds like he skips or misses a beat but somehow it just works. Ian McLagan is all over those early Rod albums as well. What a great backing band. I know that part well that you speak of. It's like a drummer's hickup or something like that. I only have time for those first four solo albums of Mr. Stewart but most of them featured Micky Waller amongst other fine musicians and they are very good for what they are (non jazz). Waller wasn't a great drummer maybe, but I liked his big sound.

Rod Stewart's Never a Dull Moment - Mercury original In memory of drummer Micky Waller who stepped on a rainbow on May 6, 2008. I've been listening to several Rod albums this weekend to listen to his fine drumming. I should probably put on some Jeff Beck next. No ones home to tell me to turn it down.

Lou Donaldson - Blues Walk (Bluenote) 47 W.63rd DG mono pressing.

This is the one I'd be interested. I only have a few things by Baden Powell but I like everything I've heard so far. He has a very personal sound imo. I'm not an expert on Brazilian music by any means, but I think he's pretty special.

I had a Stitt fit this morning. Sonny Stitt Blows the Blues (Verve) Classic reissue and Stitt Plays Bird (Atlantic) Blue/Green Stereo pressing.

Yesterday I was going back and forth between the Eric Dolphy Prestige box and the Joe Henderson Mileston box. I had never heard Multiple (JH) before and really enjoyed it. Trane Whistle on the ED box sounded very good too. I didn't compare it to my vinyl copy, as I don't really do that sort of thing, but it really got my attention.

Clifton Chenier Out West w/Elvin Bishop and Steve Miller (Arhoolie) Ok, first of all, it's the pianist Steve Miller not The Joker and it's very bluesy. I love the saxaphone and the accordian together. Friends of mine have just returned from New Orleans so it's put me in the mood too.

Wow! That was great. Thanks.

I read in the paper: a) The Best Buy unit will tell you what will be shown the next hour on the channel you are watching. The Radio Shack unit will do the same for the next 24 hours. b) Both cost $60.00. Being a person that doesn't watch a lot of tv, this feature will have no impact on my choice. Thanks for the info. My main concern is getting a well made device with a decent life span. -

Has anyone heard any pros or cons regarding the different brands of converter boxes? -

I have Sense of Direction and agree that it's excellent. That's why my interest was piqued when I started hearing all the hype about Impressions of Lawrence of Arabia. I thought damn, if it's better than what I've already heard it must be off the charts. Of course it is only someone's opinion, but I've heard that from quite a few people. I guess I'll find out in a few days.

I'm picturing someone coming back from the record store with a couple of Bluenote albums while riding one of these.

Great deal!! Bill Evans: The Last Waltz

Re: returns to Newbury. I received a damaged Eric Dolphy box set recently because it was packed in an odd shaped box that had a lot of space in it which the packer tried to remedy with those plastic air pillows. Only problem was that they weren't adequate and the cd box was damaged in transit to the point that DHL opened it to check the contents and taped it all back up. Neither the cds or individual cases were damaged but I wasn't very happy about it so I reported it to Newbury. To their credit they shipped me a new box set with a return label for the damaged goods. I carefully opened the package so I was able to reseal the old boxset and apply the return label. So I was only out the time and gas to drop it off at the post office. Not a big deal, but had they packaged it properly the first time the damage wouldn't have happened. -
Thanks Dumpy Mama and Randy. I've seen that cd at Amazon before but I didn't know it was a twofer. I just ordered it. Some people think the Impr. of L of A is his best album. Thoughts?

Great album. I bought it over ten years ago before I really knew who he was. It's one of my favorite ECM albums. Almost forgot. Now spinning Charles Mingus - Blues & Roots (Atlantic) Mono Red/Purple label.

Great story Thom Keith. Thanks for sharing. Another thanks to Randy for a couple of wonderful posts. If anyone knows where I can find a copy of Impressions of a Lawrence of Arabia I'd love to hear from you. I've got five or six of his albums but this one has been impossible to find.
