  1. GoodGrief would be a better handle I think.
  2. I cannot wait for this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu16L7IfKT4&
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97FXeUQXIEo the transformation into a progressive rock band has been completed, without losing the dynamics of before. Bravo.
  4. Baseball is like watching grass grow on TV. I'll stick with Football.
  5. I don't believe I said anything about the diagnosis of bipolar disorder or that it's worthless. What I was trying to say is that people "say" those things without really knowing what they are talking about. The media, the general public...they throw the term around without having a clue what it means or whether it even applies. There was no negative intent to what I said.
  6. I don't even know who I'm "supposed" to root for now. San Diego? Frisco? Oakland? How can a metropolitan area with 17 million people NOT have a damn football team. LOL. Nostalgia has me leaning toward SF, but reality and proximity tell me that the "Superchargers" would make more sense. I usually root for the Seahawks, but those QB choices are terrible and I'm thus far unimpressed with Carroll and the moves he's made in signing players.
  7. All the Capitols & Columbia releases have been remastered at least once. Not counting MFSL, Japanese issues, box sets, etc. They'd have to do some heavy improving for me to buy this stuff yet again. Although 200gram vinyl reissues might do it.
  8. I'm looking forward to seeing Hesher, I saw the previews prior to SXSW but didn't get a chance to go.
  9. new song "The Devil's Orchard" available for streaming! http://stereogum.com/766792/opeth-the-devils-orchard-stereogum-premiere/franchises/haunting-the-chapel/
  10. I've been fortunate to see many artists before they passed away, others I never got a chance. But it's cool, that's why they make recordings.
  11. Financial woes kept me from attending. He's scheduled to be back in town this fall, I hope to catch him then.
  12. Glad you liked it! I thought Evans was great, he's really grown as an actor. I also liked the way they handled the CGI, it was done to enhance the story...not replace it. That's a good thing in this day and age. Did you stick around for the Avengers preview after the credits?
  13. the Media has no fucking reason to say whether these people were self-destructive...not even the family really knows for sure. Only the individual knows. We "call" a lot of behavior "self-destructive", and that behavior very well may be a symptom of something else, but we don't have the right to speak for the individual, we don't know their motives. The term "manic depressive" gets thrown around too often. The term is very loose, there are many different types of bipolar disorder, it's no more descriptive a phrase than "jazz" is.
  14. Here is the trailer for 50/50, this one looks quite good.
  15. Me too, I love classic Hollywood, but I also enjoy many current comedies as well. The younger group of filmmakers in Apatow's galaxy are making some REALLY funny movies. (The Hangover, Bridesmaids, Zombieland, Get Him To The Greek, etc) I'm looking forward to "30 Minutes or Less" and "50/50" which are coming out soon.
  16. Even the late 70's pressings had the posters and stickers inside. I know, I had the posters on my bedroom wall and I'm pretty sure one of the stickers was on my stereo and the other on my lunchbox.
  17. I guess part of the reason is that movies classified as "genre films" (comedies, fantasy, sci-fi, horror) are always viewed as being "lower entertainment" and are never taken seriously by critics, the Academy, etc. I've always found that to be completely moronic, it takes just as much talent to make a really successful horror film as it does to make a 5-hanky weeper. I remember being furious about critics and their "star" rating system. A movie like "My Left Foot" would get a 5-star review...while a sci-fi film usually maxed out at "3-stars", because the subject wasn't "worthy" of getting the highest rating. Crap I say!
  18. It's just the age 27, not "how" they died.
  19. Not just classic rock albums getting this kind of treatment. There is a 25th anniversary edition of Megadeth's Peace Sells I just saw a few days ago, retail priced at $130! Who are they kidding with this crap? Greedy record label cash-grabs like this makes me WANT to steal music, jokers are in charge.
  20. Generally people mourn people they knew *personally*. Musicians, actors, artists of all types are a different animal, they can be universally mourned by anyone that was a fan, because of the aforementioned lack of future works and we "feel" that we knew these people personally, through their art. Both loss of "humans", but totally different type of mourning.
  21. I disagree, going through page after page after page of foreign films that I will never see just to find a film to discuss gets irritating. Thus, a thread for what does interest me.
