While I could have tried to stump the band with obscure hard bop or west coast or swing era jazz, I thought a different path would be of interest to at least some. The oldest recorded track is the first track, from 2000. All of the rest is from the last few years, all of artists that I have heard in person and found impressive in the last few years at the festivals I've been attending (New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Big Ears Festival and Winter Jazzfest). With nearly all of my musical heroes passing away over time, I have focused in the last few years on finding living musicians to follow. I'm not ready to hide in my house only listening to deceased great musicians.

I believe it is the Dean of the Arts School there; he is usually in attendance at the jazz concerts and appears to be a real fan, albeit with pretty conservative tastes. They also have an interesting program of classical concerts, and tickets are pretty cheap for a "senior citizen" which sadly they define as anyone age 55 or over. -

James Carter Organ Trio - Live from Newport Jazz
kh1958 replied to GA Russell's topic in New Releases
I saw the group in April and quite enjoyed their set. Later that evening, Gerald Gibbs was in the audience for Lonnie Smith's appearance at Snug Harbor and credibly took the good Doctor's seat at the organ for one song. -
I find that I usually enjoy Bob Weinstock's choices for World and Folk music, not just his Jazz and Blues taste.

I'm finding this release to be highly enjoyable. It seems to be a similar version of Ekaya that I saw in New Orleans in 2017. No name players in the band, but a well-integrated unit expertly playing Mr. Ibrahim's beautiful compositions.
-
You haven't heard his last two releases--Saturday Morning and Marseille? Both are very good records.
-
The Amazon description says it is solo piano except for three tracks which are duos with James Cammack.
-
That sounds like a music festival I would like to attend.

Amazon has the Kenny Burrell for a lower price than some of the others (currently $26.99).

Yesterday I listened to the Tone Poet version of Introducing Kenny Burrell, a record I have never run across on LP form even as a Liberty. It sounded beautiful. Quiet surfaces. No warp. Attractive cover with very nice photos in the inner sleeve. I must be missing some terrible flaw.

All of the CD2 tracks are in acceptable sound. Highlights are T Bone Walker playing with Luther Allison on T Bone's track, then T Bone Walker backing up Big Mama Thornton.

Yes, it is good. I also heard Tom Harrell presenting the music from Something Gold... at the Village Vanguard, but Dave Douglas was the second trumpet on that occasion.

The ghost of Bob Weinstock appeared and said no? I had the opposite reaction to hearing part of one of her live sets. She didn't seem ready to me. But then again, I don't really care for Betty Carter either.
