  1. Not to intrude, but I've enjoyed what I've heard from Kurt Rosenwinkel.
  2. mmmmmmmmmm......Zingers............. :rsmile:
  3. You didn't get it.
  4. They should fire Earthwind. Get it?
  5. You're right, Valerie, the thread has sidetracked a bit, although I think both premises are being addressed, and I think the "alternate interpretation" (i.e., those who played w/Bird and are still around) has proved to be quite interesting as well. Did you think of a "disciple" that hadn't yet been mentioned? Sidetracked/hijacked threads are a regular event here........
  6. Now maybe I'm crazy, but I liked Leprechaun more than anything BJ did. Go figure. I did like the Taxi theme, though................
  7. I'm all for JK's sense of exploration and enthusiasm, which I commend him for, but I remember thinking a lot of BJ's stuff was "lite" at the time it came out in the 70s. I think his sides contributed a lot to the idea that the decade of the 70s was a weak one for jazz. Some good players participating, but fairly dull tunes and very repetitive.
  8. In a Spyro Gyra kind of way.
  9. .....and for that matter trumpet/manager Bill Byrne. Though not widely known as a player, Bill kept the band (and Woody) together through much of the IRS flack (I think Bill joined the band before Frank).
  10. Apparently currently out of print... Gil Fuller
  11. I think of the Basie and Duke "residencies" as some of the longest-standing relationships, but there are many other examples of long-term commitment..... Charlie Rouse/Monk Jarrett/Peacock/DeJohnette Bob Cranshaw/Sonny Rollins How about (outside of music): Ron Howard/Clint Howard
  12. Oh, right......you asked about people in love......
  13. ...not only that, but it's written over the changes of "All The Things You Are"!
  14. Let's see..how "evenly matched" they are might be a point of contention, but not really that much of a rarity..... Marion/Jimmy McPartland Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin Mike/Leni Stern Randy Brecker/Eliane Elias (Marc Johnson/Eliane Elias) Red Norvo/Mildred Bailey Ray Brown/Ella Fitzgerald Cindy Blackman/Wallace Roney Renee Rosnes/Billy Drummond These are the ones that first come to mind-I'm sure there are many more. Actually a good idea for a thread...........
  15. Right....forgot about that one.......
  16. If this is true, it seems to be happening pretty late in the production/distribution process. There are already a lot of copies floating around for review, promos, etc. If they were going to stop it you'd think they'd have done so long before this point. They (Sony/Legacy) must have gotten permission to release this already, wouldn't you think? Or did they already own the tapes and didn't need permission from the estate? Any other examples come to mind of something getting pulled at the last second?
  17. Superconducting Quantum Interference Device
  18. If you check on "order status" you will see a link (underneath the list of your order's contents) that says "cancellation and other options". After clicking on that you then can select specific items to cancel (by checking off boxes next to items). I feel your pain!
  19. An amazing man, a great player and educator. I think his life story would make a very interesting book. Thanks for posting all that material, Mike.
  20. wesbed will be thrilled about that.................
  21. I got the same one. I cancelled everything on the order EXCEPT the Miles, I'll just wait that one out. The other things I can get elsewhere, but I want to get the Miles there since I pre-ordered at the low price. The wait continues....................
