  1. THIS SHIT REALLY ROCKS YUO SHOULD CHECK IT OUT SS1 Memories.......
  2. I also met my wife in college (in 1977) and we dated off and on over the years before finally marrying in 1999. Better the devil you know, I guess! OK, sorry for the off-topic everyone........
  3. Well, Lon, you're probably better off......a little less wine, women, weed and song and a little more scholarly acquisition of pertinent knowledge prob'ly wouldn't not o' hurt me none..... ...although we did have some bad-ass jam sessions....
  4. Surprisingly enough, in this case maybe he was! :rsmile: "Every pot-smoking and dazed and confused college kid — and a few of the more sophisticated ones in high school — owned this...." "This may have been the album every stoner wanted in his collection "because the chicks dug it"."
  5. I have a major sentimental attachment to this recording having first acquired it while in college in the 70s. At the time it was a) fun to listen to high, and 2) an excellent make-out record. Very hypnotic and rhythmically pulsating. Oh yeah, baby! I don't listen to it all that often these days (although I may have to now that this thread has brought it back to mind), but I will always have fond memories of it. Or at least what I can actually remember.
  6. I'm kind of psyched for #666666.
  7. Many have been influenced by and emulate him, but there is no one like him IMHO.
  8. Mmmmmm........tasty!
  9. The box sets are locked up at the stores here, too, but at least they're here! I don't xerox the coupons, I just print additional copies from the original. How would they ever know if you've already used one at that location or any other? My feeling is that they know what EXACTLY is going on- they've got you in the store, you're going to spend money (probably more than you intended). Any loss from additional use of the coupons should be negligible. As I said before, if these coupons didn't exist I probably wouldn't shop there at all.
  10. WORD! I wish to hell they made those in "mutant" sizes. That's what I'd need. Not huge, but definitely bigger than what they offer.
  11. Mrs. Vibes appears to be extremely hip. You behave yourself and hang on to that fine woman! (not that I'm telling you anything you don't already know!) You should bring home some flowers for no particular reason (or something to that effect).
  12. THAT would be SWEET!!!
  13. FWIW Oliver Lake's b-day was also yesterday(9/14).
  14. Yeah, it's not like they're not getting a shitload of my money as it is! If they didn't have these coupons I might not shop there at all, since I usually buy online. I just refuse to pay full retail. I do enjoy pawing through the selection though. Almost always I leave there with more than I intended to buy. I'm a compulsive type, what can I say?
  15. Just curious- I alternate Borders stores when redeeming multiple coupons on the same day, mostly because it's convenient to do so. Does anyone make a purchase, walk out, turn around and go back in and do it again? Not that there's anything wrong with that............. Anyone ever get busted for perceived "coupon abuse"?
  16. As the sun sets on the current 30% off coupon, I'm curious as to who here used it to greatest advantage. I used it probably four times, and my booty included the Coltrane Live in Europe box, the Bill Evans VV box as well as a couple individual CDs- the new Sonny Rollins 9/11 Concert and the Turning Point RVG. Did anyone get the big Duke Ellington RCA box, or something similar?
  17. Speaking of the Vanguard, have you guys (and ladies) checked out the website? Village Vanguard Click on the "Gallery" to see all the recordings that have been made there. Quite impressive!
  18. FWIW, Dennis, I wouldn't read anything "sinister" into Chuck's comments. I, for one, am a fan of Shorty Rogers. Some (not all, however) of his arranging/composing really knocks me out. Check out "Invisible Orchard"- definitely some of his more adventuresome writing IMHO. Have you seen his Jazz Scene USA DVD? Enjoy the Proper box!
  19. I don't know about you guys, but I'm looking forward to these new sides more than about anything that's come out lately. I've only heard the Miles material from Live-Evil;otherwise it's all new to me. Also looking forward to the Trane Half Note set coming out this fall. There has been so much great music coming out lately between Mosaic, Blue Note et al. Not to mention Chuck's recent Bird discovery. A wealth of riches! And much of it I haven't heard before. We're doing all right. September 27th is going to be a good day. Plus it's Bud Powell's birthday. Jes bein' thankful. What's on your Holy Grail list?
  20. Great picture!
  21. h A p P y B i R t H d A y D a N ! ! !
  22. I have that same crappy cassette. I still play it. ← The one w/the white case?
