I thought it was "people with big instruments make more musicians"? B-) -
Here's another little tip- use your Foreman grill (doesn't everyone have one by now? ) for making grilled cheese or other sammiches. They're wicked good that way! Oh yeah, one more outdoor grilling tip- I've been using these little paraffin cubes (I think Weber makes 'em) for starting my charcoal- much hipper than lighter fluid, no residual nasty taste. I also use one of those chimney-type deals for starting the charcoal- it's ready sooner. Keep cookin' folks, and don't forget to report back! :rsmile:

I guess I should have let your Michigan pals start this thread but what the hell..... Happy Birthday to a fellow bass-cleffer! Always a treat to find someone older than me around here! Hope you do something fun for your 51st.

It sounds like you're looking for something bigger, but my wife and I LOVE our '04 Subaru Foresters. No complaints whatsoever. About 20K new (unless you go for the turbo). -
Hey CJ, you know your avatar always shows up on my screen as just a red X. Anyone see anything different?

Act I... I've been tracing the delivery progress- I always enjoy doing that- so I know it'll be here when I get home tomorrow. I'm really psyched for this one- some of the live stuff easily rivals the Plugged Nickel highs. I've been rediscovering Tony as of late, largely due to his great contribution to the Live Under The Sky set. He's just absolutely KILLIN' on these Miles sides. The whole band is hitting on all cylinders. Epilogue...... As I was writing this I checked the tracking link to see where it was and it came up "DELIVERED" (!!!!) so I got up and went to the front door and THERE IT WAS! See y'all later............ A Quinn Martin Production..................

Has Monster been out on CD?

Wow, Mike, thanks for the research project. What do we owe you? I'm surprised that some common and popular "desert island" tunes got axed. Alone Together, In Your Own Sweet Way, Just Friends, Night and Day, What Is This Thing Called Love (among others) are all common session tunes that all players should know. I wonder if it was a copyright issue? I'm also curious to see if they corrected the MANY mistakes from the original. Dear Old Stockholm was a mess. And Rooster- you'd have thought they might have added Beatrice, which has become a standard 'round most parts.

Sure, ground turkey's cool. That will really cut the fat w/o sacrificing flavor as long as you season it. Ideally (if grease is not a big concern) a good combo is half ground beef and half Jimmy Dean HOT sausage (or your favorite). The BBQ sauce is certainly optional, although if you skip it add just a little honey or sugar which will cut the acidity of the tomatoes. I've also been using that new Chipotle tabasco sauce. It's great in chili, stew, soup, etc.

We started discussing this on the JoeHen thread, so I thought we should give it its own home so as not to derail that discussion. Here's what it includes. Note the additions and deletions. I haven't seen it up close yet so I can't vouch for the "corrections". So what do y'all think? Is this a service to musicians, corporate opportunism or a little of both? What do you think about the change in the contents?

Look HERE, bertrand. It says "Volume One", but it is the new legal version you're looking for. I started a separate thread for this topic over in the Musician's Forum so as not to derail this one too much.

Regarding that new Real Book review, thank god they've added Woodchopper's Ball- I've been trying to figure out that complicated riff for years.

Illinois Jaquet? Just kidding. The part of the Wizard of Oz that scared me was when the tornado approaches in the beginning. I had nightmares about that.

Those "oompa loompas" have always creeped me out. As a matter of fact, I've always thought there was a bit of creepy vibe to that movie. I thought this was going to be a thread about Ray Draper.

Free For All replied to wesbed's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Hey, you're not making car payments- go for it if you're curious! EDIT: Plus, around here you can always unload an unwanted Mosaic! -
Word. I'm in agreement totally. I've noticed that he recycles a bit in his compositions. I know, who doesn't? Ever compare the changes of Jinrikisha to Afro-Centric? He also likes to use parallel major7(b5) chords (Black Narcissus, Inner Urge, Punjab). BTW, the Real Book version of Jinrikisha is a total mess! I think I just read that Hal Leonard is releasing a legal and corrected version of the original Real Book. Hmmmm, we'll see..................

I believe it's Larry Schneider on Affinity.

Did I miss this post? Where was it?

I'm a huge Joe fan and I have no problem saying that Joe wasn't particularly innovative. I do think he expanded the scope of expression on the tenor as it existed at that time, and he certainly was unique and original in the sense that he is instantly identifiable. Many players could be included in this category. Is that considered to be innovation? How about Wayne Shorter (another favorite of mine)? I would say he was quite innovative as a composer, but what about as a player? I would describe Wayne's playing the same way as Joe's in the preceding paragraph. Could you call Wayne the tenor player innovative and not Joe? I think saying someone might not have been innovative doesn't mean that they were or are overrated.

Wasn't Newport '56 also partially studio takes?

I believe this one also had some "manufactured" cuts made to seem like they were live.
