  1. Indeed Always intrigued by these 'scientific' studies... which explains why neutral Switzerland scores so much better than France All is not lost for France. We soundly defeated Turkey and Serbia
  2. Smooth jazz IS cancer to my ears and brain
  3. From The Times today... The Times of London, that is!
  4. If you can afford the Ultimate box, it's a great investment and a great way to have it (almost) in one big scoop!
  5. I know that feeling
  6. 'Bout time If you don't have this, get it! The only problem with the album is it's much too short (just under 29 minutes)!
  7. Charlie Mingus 'Blues & Roots' (Atlantic, mono) Mingus must have hated being named Charlie on the cover of that album!

    Helen Merrill

There is an Italian CD 'Helen Merrill in Italy' (Liuto LRS 0063/5) which includes 21 sides. The liner notes has this line 'This CD includes all the music that Helen Merrill ever recorded in Italy'! The disc includes four sides recorded with a big band and strings 'arranged and directed by Ennio Morricone'. The four sides are: Estate Nessuno al Mondo Nun e' Peccato S'e` Fatto Tardi Take it these are the ones with Trovajoli.
  9. You'll find out who the pianist on track 10 is when I post the answers in about one week! Unless someone identified him correctly in the meantime! And once more it's not Humair on track 3!
  10. Chubby Jackson 'Live' (Mopaque) The stupendous big band (with Al Porcino, Frank Socolow, Ray Turner, Gene DiNovi, Teddy Charles, Curley Russell, Tiny Kahn, etc...) performing at the Royal Roost in 1949. Too bad this Jackson band recorded such a little amount of material!
  11. A stowaway on board? OK David, you're welcome! Very welcome comments!
  12. Lars Gullin Quintet 'In Concert' ... Featuring Bernt Rosengren (Storyville)
  13. I mentioned previously this was a West Coast date! And it is Leroy Vinnegar on bass!
  14. Oh yes I remember those times. And the controversy!
  15. Charles Tolliver Mosaic Select, disc 3
  16. Wonder why Jacky Terrasson's hair is a problem :bwallace2: He was born in Berlin in 1965. His mother was American, a black African from the south. His father was French! Terranon's mother was into home designing. She redecorated Miles Davis' apartment. She met Paul Chambers, Philly Joe Jones among other guests as Miles' place! Terrasson studied with another French (from the West Indies) pianist Michel Sardaby! I'ld rather hear Sardaby than Terrasson. Terrasson is OK but Sardaby is more consistant and inspired!
  17. Loved that Tom Archia. It rocks! Eagerly waiting for the next Archia volume in this Classics series.
  18. Gigi Gryce 'Sayin' Something' (New Jazz, mono)
  19. The idea is interesting. But doubt this very much. The session was recorded when Tadd Dameron was making a comeback. However his name has not been mentioned anywhere in regard to this disc!
  20. Prices of used CDs have been pretty consistent over here! Have not noticed any trend toward cheaper used CDs here, unfortunately!
  21. Andrew Hill Mosaic Select, disc 3
  22. Aside to neveronfriday, my very best wishes on your forthcoming operation! Will be looking for your reappearance here! To return to the idea behind this thread, absolutely nothing against CDUniverse. Just never ordered from them! I'm in on the idea of doing this with Mosaic! Now there's a company I have ordered from - way too much in fact! - and planning to continue to do so!
  23. Sunny Murray 'Charred Earth' (Kharma) with Byard Lancaster, Dave Burrell and Bob Reid
  24. Randy, glad you liked it! The idea was to bring unusual or rare music to listeners who might have overlooked the albums or the musicians. I was not expecting many people to recognise the various tracks that were included in the BFT, I was just hoping they'ld like discovering some of the sides! It is Mal Waldron on track 2! No McLean there... About the final track (16), it was recorded in a studio with the idea of recreating a club atmosphere!
  25. Nice try!
