    Wayne Shorter...

Not very often mentioned is Wayne Shorter's contribution to the 'Identity' session by Airto on Arista. An oustanding album. Shorter does not play much on it but his soprano solo on 'Wake Up Song' is a little gem!
  2. I picked up a mint Japanese copy of that vinyl for £5 a few weeks ago, Brownie. It's a very nice session, indeed. Cool cover with the 'Daddy-O Presents' logo (whoever he was). Lucky you
  3. I have never soon that one! Never heard of it until Berigan started this thread! I'll be waiting for that one too!
  4. Joyeux anniversaire, Michel Hope you're having a great day! And post here more often!

    Funny Rat

Lots of interesting concerts at the Banlieues Bleues 2005 festival. Current program: http://www.banlieuesbleues.org/english/english.htm

  7. Have them all, Love them all!!! Is there a list? From Michael Fitzgerald jazz discography list: http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Labels/bee_hive.htm
  8. 9. I like those Blakey drum sessions for BN. Favorite of those are the Orgies...
  10. Charlie Parker The Massey Hall Concert Tony Fruscella/Brew Moore at the Open Door Art Blakey A Night at Birdland The Jazz Messengers at Cafe Bohemia Sonny Rollins at the Village Vanguard John Coltrane at the Village Vanguard Miles Davis at the Plugged Nickel Wes Montgomery 'Full House' Lee Morgan at the Lighthouse Art Pepper at the Village Vanguard Albert Ayler 'Bells' and others....
  11. This is priceless! Amazing to see clips of Clifford Brown and Booker Little playing. Never seen those. Even if the video is terrible! The Lee Morgan I had seen before. Many thanks, MartyJazz for linking this...
  12. It's from 1997 and has not been updated Regarding the pre-1940 Ellington music, I will shed another valley of tears over the demise of the Masters of Jazz series on Duke Ellington. It went up to vol. 12 (Oct. 1930-Jan. 1931) and then went down! When those MofJ were coming out, I was hoping to get rid of the French CBS two-fer vinyls that included eveything from Okeh/Columbia. I'm glad I kept those even if I am much less happy with the sound on them than Lon seems to be! A shame that Columbia/Sony still has not managed to do justice to their recordings, the way BMG did with their RCA Victor Centennial box. I do hope that the Spanish/Andorran labels will do the Columbia/Okeh sides properly. In the meantime, those Classics are pretty good even if they stick to master takes and do not include any non-studio material.
  13. JSP is an english label. England is EU. Sort of. All those labels are Public Domain over here for the sides that were recorded more than 50 years old! I have seen that JSP box but could not find any identification on who did the mastering!
  14. Mmmmm, I think it was "The Other One with the Mighty Fine Legs" Vera Ellen was just not 'another one'. She was a pretty actress and a good cancer. She did very well in 'On The Town' another classic from the team that gave us 'Singin' In The Rain', Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly! Hate the snow! But spending a White Christmas with a Vera Ellen would be bliss

    René Thomas

Our friend Claude Schlouch is also working on a Rene Thomas discography of his own! I'll be waiting for that one. Those Schlouch discographies are amazing!

    René Thomas

Love that album! With the great J.R. Monterose! Managed to get an original vinyl copy of that one!
  17. I presume he is still alive. Hope he is a happy retiree by now! Although he took part in hundreds of sessions, he never led a date of his own. I remember reading somewhere (probably in Cadence) that he had a bad foot which handicaped his career.
  18. Prince Lasha (and Sonny Simmons)!! just before The Cry now: Firebirds both Contemporary mono originals. The fire is on...
  19. Recorded on February 25: 1955 - Quincy Jones All Stars date for Columbia which remains unissued (except for one title 'Grasshopper') 1957 - Quincy Jones All Stars date for ABC-Paramount (Go West Young Man) 1969 - Duke Pearson records for BN (Merry Ole Soul) 1983 - Lee Konitz records for Sunnyside (Doevtail)
  20. Ornette Coleman's music for the film was oustanding! The film director Conrad Rooks shied away from using it and used Ravi Shankar for the film soundtrack. Never saw the film. Understand Ornette Coleman appeared in it.
  21. Still wondering... As far as I know, John Dennis was black. Willie Dennis was not.
  22. There was a very interesting interview of Danny Bank in Cadence magazine. That was in the July 1997 issue which I have somewhere. He was on the Miles Davis/Gil Evans collaborations, from the 'Miles Ahead' album on. That should say enough on how highly he was thought of! Banks played on hundreds of sessions and was on dates with Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Al Cohn and many, many others...
  23. Checked the Charlie Parker Discography by Bregman/Bukowski/Saks. No Bird Masquerade is listed in the tunes index.
  24. Dewey Redman would be one of those. Like what he played on his Actuel album 'Tarik' with the help of Malachi Favors and Ed Blackwell!
  25. Depends... If you happen to have information about that release, I'm still interested... http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...jimmy+cleveland
