  5. What are your impressions of this one, brownie? I've always meant to get it, and I will one day certainly, but the idea of Konitz playing Hill still baffles me.   6. Don't have a copy... Music was good but I mostly remember that concert at the Olympia music all because my ears were damaged by the volume of the amplification. I was taking photos from near the stage and stood too close to the huge amplifiers. My ears were still ringing when I left the Olympia...

  8. Doubt that there is really anything substantial to be learned about Bird's life at this stage. Will wait for the book's release and its first reviews to check if it's worth being purchased!
  9. It seems there was no formal departure from the Jazz Lab. No specific reason is given. To quote from the book: 'Donald Byrd left the Jazz Lab in early 1958, reuniting for a time with his friend from Detroit, Pepper Adams, before traveling to Europe in the Summer and remaining there several months.' Byrd teamed with Bobby Jaspar for an European tour in mid-July then returned to the States before heading back to Europe and another reunion with Jaspar.
