  1. Thanks! P.S. This thread is now about the following topic: Cassandra Wilson: Serious jazz musician of merit, or no better than Norah Jones?
  2. I am taking care of it. That's all that needs to be said.
  3. Does anyone have a complete listing of these/know the series I'm talking about? They start with the VDJ-prefix. I believe they came out in 1986/1987. I happen to like the sound, but only own four of them! Google doesn't help, and the liner notes don't either - not a speck of English aside from the cover/tracklisting. Thanks in advance!
  4. Why in the world does he prefer posting over at AAJ? I haven't visited that site in months!
  5. I own a record store and I would like to carry these records. However, how does one go about reaching Scorpio? Google comes up empty!
  6. Please check my eBay auctions for 75+ MFSL/DCC 24 kt Gold Discs! eeegor's auctions
  7. Is there a comprehensive list of these anywhere, or did they do every 'jazz' album on Atlantic, including stuff like Ti-Ro-Ro?
  8. I'll second Michel and say "keep 'em". There's only a few of those sessions available on Connoisseur cd releases, and the sound of them is quite lovely. A friend of mine also has all 50, and I remember quite enjoying the Lou Mecca and Hank Mobley Quartet dates. Unless you really need the dough, try to wait another 5-10 years before selling them - that'll hopefully find you making your initial cost back.
  9. Half.com doesn't appear to ship to Canada.
  10. I was recently out-bid on a LaserDisc - "Blue Note-A History of Modern Jazz". It was apparently released on DVD in Japan, but (of course) is now out of print. Does anyone have a DVD/LaserDisc/VHS copy (original not important) of this they could sell me? Pretty please?
  11. A quick glance at eBay reveals that 30 of 32 pages of 'Anna-Nicole Smith' items have been newly listed. Watch for hundreds and hundreds more to be added for sale.
  12. I'll probably never be this lucky again: 1. George Wallington 'Quintet at the Bohemia' original NM/NM - $40 -- sold on eBay last year for $700 2. George Wallington 'Jazz for The Carriage Trade' W. 50th Prestige NM/NM - $25 -- sold on eBay last year for $205 The great finds that I've found, bought, and kept for myself are too many to mention though; they comprise my entire collection!
  13. Thank you very much!
  14. How did you decide where to start the bidding on those? I have about 200 MFSL goldies that I'm going to auction in the next month (no jazz aside from a Jimmy Raney & Bill Evans). An advance thanks for any advice that you can give me!
  15. The former Cafe Bohemia, by the by, is still open...in a way. Located at 15 Barrow St. in New York City, it's now a souless, generic bar that I suppose caters to the university kids who are nearby. I believe all the wood and rafters are original though. The place is damn small too - but what great recordings we have from that tiny place!
  16. This one? Cuozzo,Mike(ts) With The Costa Burke Trio(N/N-,N/N-) Fresh Sound(Jubilee JLP 1027) 2800 From www.earlyrecords.com 'New Arrivals' page. The '2800' refers to how much it costs - in Japanese Yen. That's about $23 USD for you plus shipping.
  17. Like releasing a six-cd Coltrane box and RVG issues of identical material all within a few months?
  18. Wow, I had no idea there was once a forum on the BN pages. I wonder why they shut it down? Couldn't have been a money issue. Maybe a surge of Norah Jones fans set the servers on fire?
  19. I only want Hank's Savoy albums because they're the only ones I don't have. And I like Savoy Japanese LPs because of their excellent fidelity. New members of this forum doesn't always equate with new listeners of jazz! Thanks for the welcome!
  20. I am looking for mint or near-mint Japanese copies of Lee Morgan's 'Introducing', and Hank Mobley's two 'Message From' albums on Savoy. Thanks for reading this plea!
  21. I bought the Paradigm Monitor 7's back in October. I am quite smitten with them! I can't stand boomy, thumping bass, and these speakers offer incredible detail and imaging. I've always thought that a speakers should just 'disappear' in the music, and these do just that. I believe the Monitor 9's are a similarly well regarded speaker, the difference being a slightly larger footprint and an increased output.
  22. I believe I followed a link from allaboutjazz.com - and I haven't looked back. The content, intellect and knowledge of posters, and sense of community just seems to be better here. Really, there's no comparison between the two. I co-own a used record store in Toronto, Canada, and I've never heard of the group Organissimo, but you can chalk that up to ignorance and stubborness on my part; I rarely listen to any jazz that wasn't recorded between 1940 and 1980. Already this community has been a bad influence on me, as I just placed my first order with Hiroshi Tanno, a name I wasn't familiar with just last month. I'm just glad I don't have a mortgage or kids to support! Enough from me, and back to the initial question at hand: How did YOU stumble upon these forums, and are there any other hidden gems of online jazz resources I don't know about ye
  23. Perhaps there's lots of members with zero replies because each account must be screened and approved before a member can post. Maybe some people sign-up and when they don't have immediate posting ability they don't return? Just a thought.
