  1. And, as predicted, two weeks and the box showed up. Never an email. Can't say if the box was handcuffed to the FedEx guy but it surely was well-packaged. Now I gotta do some listening.
  2. I have the songs listed out by Fabio earlier, on CDR. He calls it B+ audio I'd say B/B+. Only Blues Walk and My Funny Valentine feature Hank. 01 The blues walk 12.53 02 Billie's bounce (DJ trio) 6.03 03 My funny valentine 3.54 04 There will never be another you 3.36* 05 The Wildest Gal In Town 3.55* I have the songs listed out by Fabio earlier, on CDR. Got a hankerin' for double mint gum now.)
  3. I have it. I have it. With duke Jordan and a singer.
  4. I gotta say that's pretty funny that you are posting in this thread, where about 8 posts back, on Thursday, was the first link to that very same video. I guess its good that at least you didn't start a brand new thread. Or was your purpose to say that its in JazzWax so now it gets decent amplification/attention? 5. They were conceived as jam sessions and you are complaining that they sound that way? No one is saying they are stone-cold classics. They are documents of jam sessions by some of the greatest musicians of the era. There's nothing wrong with enjoying them for what they are.

  7. Which is why I haven't responded to Brad bringing the second amendment in. But I will say that differences in societal responses to government edicts may have a lot to do with the fact that this country was "conceived in liberty."
  8. I can't imagine it did since the Mosaic booklet is about the music included in the set, not some unquestionably confused statements by Hank in an interview that the author may or may not be aware of. I think the real question here is what Michael has to say about this and how he interprets Hank's statements and the tapes he has seen.
  9. The founding document identified certain inalienable rights that justified our independence, and ultimately the form our government took to protect those rights. Acting as if concern about rights is the trait of mouth-breathers is not a good look, Brad. (None of this is to say anything about bigbandrecord and his views. For him I have only the devout wish that karma does what it ought to do.)
  10. I remember when he had his moment back then. I also recall sampling at least one and maybe more than one at Sally's Place in Westport CT. I found it completely underwhelming, one uptempo track after another, no variation though I am sure there was a ballad in there somewhere - which he probably took uptempo once he played the theme. I also seem to recall a sense that the recording had that early digital vibe that was too clean and for lack of a better term, sharp sounding (ironic given the comparisons to McLean) in such a way that it would grow even more wearisome than his soloing over the course of an entire record. So, you know, it would take a lot for me to consider his newest recordings but maybe he's grown out of the spotlight?
  11. Interesting how no one noticed the shortcoming in the answers until this month. I will keep in mind for June.
  12. What say you now? (I updated some of the choices, making comparisons statistically invalid )
  13. Was looking at that link Matthew and it seems really ridiculous at least in many instances: Examples of businesses that can operate curbside retail include: bookstores, jewelry stores, toy stores, clothing stores, shoe stores, home and furnishing stores, sporting goods stores, antique stores, music stores and florists. Book stores and antique stores are the very definition of needing to browse to find and decide on a purchase. Do they expect people to ask the proprietor to bring every bronze antique bookend (but no cast iron) so they can decide which one they like and don't already have? How about on music stores, bring me every soft rock guitar chord book you got, I'll pick one. (Does anyone buy those anymore in the age of online tabs?) How about shoe stores? Open toed sandals, size 10, please.
  14. Out to Sam's yesterday for first time since Florida started opening up - they were still restricting entrance by some mysterious counting system, but maybe 40% of those I saw were wearing masks, and social distancing seemed to be gone almost entirely away at least at the registers. I almost felt like if I didn't move forward people would think I wasn't on line.
  15. https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/04/dont-wear-mask-yourself/610336/ To better understand what level of mask-wearing we need in the population to get this pandemic under control, we assembled a transdisciplinary team of 19 experts and looked at a range of mathematical models and other research to learn what would happen if most people wore a mask in public. We wrote and submitted an academic paper as well as a layperson’s summary. Every infectious disease has a reproduction rate, called R. When it’s 1.0, that means the average infected person infects one other person. The 1918 pandemic flu had an R of 1.8—so one infected person infected, on average, almost two others. COVID-19’s rate, in the absence of measures such as social distancing and masks, is at least 2.4. A disease dies out if its R falls under 1.0. The lower the number, the faster it dies out. The effectiveness of mask-wearing depends on three things: the basic reproduction number, R0, of the virus in a community; masks’ efficacy at blocking transmission; and the percentage of people wearing masks. The blue area of the graph below indicates an R0 below 1.0, the magic number needed to make the disease die out. Read: A new statistic reveals why America’s COVID-19 numbers are flat Models show that if 80 percent of people wear masks that are 60 percent effective, easily achievable with cloth, we can get to an effective R0 of less than one. That’s enough to halt the spread of the disease.
  16. No, I thought I would move on to new topics this month but I too am curious about that. Maybe when I am back on the PC I will set it up.
  17. The idea is protection of others, but mostly it's about squelching The virus replication rate. 1918 flu was 1.8. Goal is less than 1, which would eventually end transmission more or less. 80 percent wearing 60 percent effective masks gets you below R of 1. It's the smartest thing any government at any level can do. That it isn't happening from the top down in the US infuriates me.
  18. I never got the Woody mosaic and never knew of this date. Quite intrigued to hear it though especially Young back on piano.
  19. Every time I get the email notification, if the concert interests me I am going to verify if its a full set or just a song or two. I do hope and expect full shows though they haven't done that every time.
  20. He should put that in his press packet now that he has raised his profile again.
  21. Came for the Knepper and Moore didn't ruin it? (just wasn't expecting a Ralph Moore in your stacks, especially so early in his career.)
  22. No idea where you could get one, as Chris says the steaks are neither the worst nor the best. What I found objectionable because it was so damn hokey is that they don't hand out menus. They hand out regulation size footballs, on which is printed the menu items. And I want to say that you only get 1 or 2 per table so you might wait to get a look at it before having to pass it around. Well, hand it off.
  23. Which is why I sent off an unpleasant response to the shipping notice I received on an ebay purchase from the weekend. It was $4.75 buy it now, with free shipping. I was so please I paid $4.50 more for expedited shipping and got a notice that my CD shipped, today, via media mail, the service I could have gotten for free. He better refund half of what I paid or their "perfect" rating won't be so perfect very soon.
