  1. First of all, Nancy Grace wouldn't have said it because she is a lawyer and "reversible error" is a mistake by the judge. As a layman, I plucked a legal phrase out of my memory bank of Law & Order plots. This is prosecutorial misconduct of an egregious sort and frankly leads me to be more willing to question the assumption of guilt many people had. Sorry if that wasn't clearly stated before.
  2. Stop me if you've heard this before but apparently a lot of them died off or didn't make the switch to CDs because reissue sales were never very good, and they recorded so many LPs that a Mosaic that fits with their SOP of some standard of completeness would be a little expensive, presumably adding to the risk involved in putting it out to tepid sales.
  3. Maybe its just as well that they didn't convict her - it sounds like it wouldn't have stood on appeal. And he informed the prosecution of his correced data but they stuck with the info they originally received. More here. Sounds like that could have been reversible error, if she had been convicted.
  4. Please mods, banish this SHIT to where it belongs. And I'm going to get ahead of the curve here, Albertson tell you to fuck off before your inevitable inane complaint.
  5. Thanks, HP. I'm glad that at least you are enjoying the tunes.
  6. I wouldn't hesitate if I got the chance to see KB.
  7. Its the Organissimo credo!
  8. but isn't that actually zero degrees of separation between Leno and RRK?
  9. I just can't see how a Delgado or a McGriff should make it through to the Hall. Its not just a numbers game, and they both played in a a high-offense era with a lot of other slugging first basemen. As for last night's slugfest, suffice to say that I went to bed at the end of the ninth inning, certain the Sox would lose in the end. Its just easier that way, plus its tough to win in extras on the road. So it was certainly a nice wake-up surprise to see that they went another seven innings but finally won it. Now if they just don't sleepwalk through the game against Baltimore tonight, and hopefully the Rays will play the Yanks just as tough.
  10. Two weeks to the reveal ... ... I sure hope we'll get some more guesses in.
  11. To attach an image it has to be on your hard drive and fit the size limitation. If its an image from a website, get the URL of the image and copy/paste into the box that pops up after clicking on the photo icon. I'm not sure how that's done from a Mac.
  12. It takes a big man to admit his mistakes, and anyway, I'll take all the abuse that is dished out so long as people check out the corrected transfers and tell me what they think.
  13. Its worse than you even suspected! I discovered this morning that I actually transferred these at 33 RPM. I'm not sure which was stupider, not noticing which toggle position is right for singles or the fact that I should have noticed that the recording is pretty short on the 45, so how come I got a 3 minute plus side on each? Mea maxima culpa! Everyone who has interest please click the audio players above again. I've uploaded correct-speed versions, after I painstakingly removed the pops and clicks for maximum audio pleasure. And all I can say is, I am far more inclined to say this is "the" Gene Harris after hearing these performances at the right speed. Hell, I listened again to the Our Love is Here to Stay recording on my Fresh Sound CD and ... this 45 sounds more like Gene than any track on the Jubilee LP. Check for yourself and please post your impression or if you haven't voted yet, make your opinion known.
  14. Good ears! Its such a weird sound, I'm thinking recording or pressing or playback anomaly. I tend to agree with you. Nothing but what is in the liner notes ... and for whatever reason, the liners to Our Love is Here to Stay, (apparently definitely "the" Gene Harris) has the same details: Related to your second point - is it possible Jubilee doctored-up his bio because they wanted to position the record toward a white audience that would be more likely to listen if they thought the leader was a "classically trained" musician? I haven't searched myself but I've been told by at least one person that they've never found any info online about a white Gene Harris jazz pianist in the 50s. Might be interesting though to try to find out about white pianists enrolled at Julliard during the period.
  15. Thanks Niko and Jazztrain for your efforts so far. It would be great to narrow down a time-frame if we could find out any release dates on these 45s. And Niko, I didn't even notice any "grumbling" but I've never known Gene to engage in anything like it. I need to listen much closer to figure out if its the pianist; if it is I would say its proof positive that its not the Gene Harris I care about.
  16. Aside from the inherent rarity of the output of a label like that, I would consider any of the seemingly countless Al + Zoot sessions that are easier and cheaper to find.
  17. Mark Teixeira is nothing but a numbers-accumulator who shouldn't sniff the Hall of Fame. He's got one top-five MVP result. One homer title, one RBI title. His number one "comparable" for the past three years is Carlos Delgado. Anyone think Carlos Delgado belongs in the Hall? He's Fred McGriff with a World Series ring, and he could reach 550 homers because of the bandbox he plays in and it won't mean he deserves induction.
  18. So it does ... interesting. Not sure I'd spring for this one being doubtful overall that this one is the right Gene.
  19. Well I got the 45 and while I'm not confident that its "the" Gene Harris, there are spots that make me think it could be him. But I am hardly sure, so ... tell me your opinion, please.
  20. Basic elements of the mystery: No discographical reference to this recording exists -- Gene Harris Trio, I'm Beginning to See the Light/It Might as Well be Spring, Stereo Gems 124. There were two Jubilee LP recordings by "The Gene Harris Trio", but neither of these tunes were on the records. "Our Love is Here To Stay" was identified by Gene Harris to his wife Janie as his first recording session. She presumes that "Genie in My Soul" from 1959 is also him, though my ears say its not. But then again, maybe the fact that a white guy is pictured on the back with a biographical sketch that is different from Gene's is actually a signal that Jubilee was issuing a recording that violated the group's contract with BN and they put the white guy on the back with the false bio so that Alfred wouldn't suspect anything? It could have been recorded previously and issued in 1959 when the group was putting out records on BN and Gene was getting a national reputation. Anyway, that's the background. Now you get to hear both sides of the 45. Edit to add: Now at true 45 RPMs and all cleaned up, too. "I'm Beginning to See the Light": http://www.divshare.com/download/15329602-92d A little stiff to be Gene? There are definite moments that make me think it could be him though, particularly if its early in his career. Edit to say: Holy bleep this sounds much more like Gene than the slowed-down version I mistakenly uploaded. "It Might as Well be Spring": http://www.divshare.com/download/15329687-960 I'll be the first to say there is not very much here to suggest that its Gene. But then again, the first Jubilee recording doesn't sound much like him either and he told his wife that it was him, so if this was recorded around the same time, maybe it is ... Edit to say: At the right speed this sounds more like Gene, too. MODS: Apologies in advance if this full length 45 is too much music to share, please PM me and I will come up with an edit if that is OK, or convert the tracks to a link. God only knows who might own the "Stereo Gems" catalog and I doubt they are going to do anything anyway. I do believe this should fall under fair use as it is a question of discographical significance, and hardly different from blogs that post scratchy B-Sides of obscure 45s.
  21. Could have been worse, Larry. A couple of days ago I saw on the news that someone had their roof explode off the house. Got in to work to find out that we had written the insurance on her home. She wasn't in the house at the time but her brother woke up with drywall on top of him, tried to find his sister then got out of the house unscathed. She's going to be offline for a while. Pictures and video here.
  22. I'm here but there isn't much to say other than, "I agree" and "Michael has said that a Three Sounds Mosaic is highly unlikely to ever happen."
  23. Its not until September, guys. You're really making this spreadsheet more complicated than it needed to be.
  24. I can't be the only one who maintains a spreadsheet listing those who have wished me a happy birthday since 2003, to keep tabs on who always posts birthday greetings, who skipped a year, who has dropped out completely (f-ck 'em) etc. Can I?
