Interesting report on what evidence the judge in Clemens' trial will allow. Something of a mixed bag as it seems that the judge won't let Knoblauch or Pettitte testify that McNamee did in fact give them PEDs as he also told the Mitchell investigators. Supposedly that is too prejudicial against Clemens which seems ridiculous to me. Its legitimate evidence that McNamee told the truth in his testimony for the Mitchell report. What is even prejudicial about it? Is it prejudicial to consider it in judging McNamee's honesty? OTOH, the judge appears ready to throw out anything to do with the events at the FL hotel pool where police felt that McNamee wasn't forthcoming about what happened with a female guest who was found to have the date-rape drug in her system. No charges were ever filed against McNamee, which seems to be the key part of the judge's belief that this is prejudicial. This is very destructive to Clemens' intended defense of sliming McNamee nine ways to Sunday. So, while I think the judge is being foolish about Knoblauch and Pettitte, if he wants to take a buzz-saw to most of Clemens' "don't trust him he's a lying raping crazy person" defense, I'll take it.

You are wishing that a fellow human being should be injured so that your team can win...? As if you never thought the Giants would be better off without Zito taking a start every five days, or questioned why so much money was given to such a pathetic mediocrity.

Hmmm, your average just took a major hit. But that's a good call on the trumpet duel.

Its tragic yet deliciously ironic. Personally I find helmet laws a great symbol of the nanny state, as the risk is entirely the rider's, no one else is at risk but himself, and its no business of any state whether a motorcyclist wants to risk smashing his head on the concrete. You're stupid if you don't wear a helmet but you're also free to be stupid. That's a bedrock principle of the USA and this is a fine reminder on its 235th birthday.

Glad you're enjoying it, Bill. And I'm equally impressed with the skills you've displayed so far, particularly the four for four of this: You shouldn't have doubted your initial instincts, they were spot-on.

I WISH JOHN LACKEY WOULD JUST BLOW OUT HIS FUCKING ELBOW ALREADY SO HE CAN STOP FUCKING THIS TEAM OVER EVERY FUCKING START.

The Stat of the Day, according to the Boston Globe: Too bad that if you dig a little deeper and consider their respective winning percentages at home and away, and apply them to the remaining mix of games, you'd figure out that the Red Sox project to win 97 games and the Yankees to win 99.

As usual Jim has some spot-on comments, and some where I haven't a clue what he's talking about. So is Track 11 simply not unpleasant?
-
I suck, and I don't try.

Well I'm not going to give up my secrets too quickly here but as usual, Jim is strong on the guitarists ... I'll bet you'll come back with some more correct guesses after you listen a second or third time. There are a couple there I was pretty sure you'd get.

Links and discs just went out but its July 1, I've been waiting a while for this, so let's get the party started. Contrary to my signup announcement, there is a theme which I suspect more than one person will get. In fact, this BFT may have something in common with Garrison Keilor's fictional town where every child is "above average" - I have a feeling everybody will get at least two or three tracks right at least as to soloist. So if anyone wants to join in the fun please PM for download or CDR service. And mikeweil, please PM me your email address or clear off space in your in-box so I can send you the download link. Thanks to one and all.
-
Download link has been sent to all participants except ... Attention Mike Weil: You cannot receive more PMs. Please PM me your email address and I will send you the download link directly. Anyone else interested in the BFT are invited to PM me for the download link.

The way things have gone in recent years it'll be a surprise if the 2 best regular season records face each in the World Series. Excellent. Then the Red Sox might have a chance.
-
Its a weird mix because some are definite boots or grey-market or whatever, like a Ben Webster Verve I had years ago. But then there are live recordings, in decent sound that don't seem to exist elsewhere. There's a Grant Green performance, a Horace Silver and a few others. They came out with white covers, unlike the dark ones on the page you linked.
-
So does anyone have reason to believe that the series starting tonight in Philadelphia is still a World Series preview? Strange thing is the two most prominent fans (on this boad) of the teams involved have serious doubts about their respective rosters and their chances.

Dolphins of Hollywood label- Los Angeles, CA
Dan Gould replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Discography
I should have been more clear: My interests shifted into a blues/R&B direction several years ago. In those two inter-related genres, is there Dolphin material that is essential, and is there a particular comp that takes care of the best of the best? -

Forgive my ignorance, and slight thread-hijack but I've seen the Ace compilation(s) of original Dolphin label recordings, is it a must-have? -

Have the Mets needed help to make payroll? I mean, they're poorly run, got killed by the Madoff fraud and had to find a minority investor for a cash infusion but it seems there are orders of magnitude between the incompetence (and possible malfeasance) of McCourt and the Wilpons.

Apparently now the Dodgers have filed for bankruptcy. I admit to not following this story as closely as I could have but this is going to be one huge clusterfark. Of course McCourt never should have been allowed to buy the team but Bud should have taken action sooner to fix the situation. And how screwy is it that McCourt essentially spun off the parking (and concessions?) into another company separate from the team itself? So if Bud had taken over the team and sold it to someone else, McCourt would have been landlord to the new owners? Just a disaster for MLB, the fans, the players (is there any question that the team doesn't have the cash to make payroll in three days? What will the players and MLBPA do about that?

Four of the five tracks on the original Blue Hour would surely fit. Don't listen to those who call it "a snooze".
