  1. I'm really astonished. I've never had any such problems except that, as Use mentioned, opening too many tabs can slow things down.
  2. They've been doing the free preview for a week, since Opening Day. I believe they'll do it again at the start of the second half of the season.
  3. Glad to hear it!
  4. I sure hope we get some new comments soon ...
  5. At least that got me to smile after today's abomination.
  6. Same here! PM sent!
  7. PM sent.
  8. What a terrible thing. I hope the guy driving the minivan spends the rest of his days in prison.
  9. Tell me about it. The ump was pathetic, and when one team pitches successfully to his idiotic version of the strikezone and the other team doesn't or can't (how many breaking balls did Lester spin into the dirt, 15 or 20?), its probably going to end up a long night. And the ump was so bad that when Lopez spun a curveball inside the zone, painting the corner, he called it a ball! It was like it had to be a little outside to get that call. And its little consolation to know that MLB will tell him today that he fucked up royally.
  10. Well I guess its small consolation that the Yankees got another shitty performance by a "star" pitcher and are still waiting for their first win. But losing the way they did tonight, with Matt "Cy Young Against the Red Sox" Garza going tomorrow, I am pretty f-ing pissed right now.
  11. I have to believe they are smart enough to realize this and will have it in place at some point. It is indeed the beauty of the game, but it really sucks to have one of those games right at the start. Of course, its unlikely the Mariners will miss the playoffs by one game, but if this had happened to the Sox last night, I'd probably be suicidal.
  12. Well there is one obvious problem with MLB Network running their interminable studio show from the previous night - there's so much wasted time, if I want to find out reasonably quickly what happened and see the highlights, its still Sportscenter or ESPN News. I mean, the live look-ins might be cool the previous night, if you've got no local broadcast of your team or a game you want to see, but watching a "live" look-in the next morning when nothing ends up happening is &%$& boring. As soon as the final game of the night is over, someone should edit everything they've broadcast into a single, hour-long highlights show. No need for new discussion or intros or anything, just edit what you've got into a cohesive, complete report of what happened. It makes no sense to broadcast something the next morning as if the up-to-the-minute news is that the Red Sox just took a 5-1 lead, show the completed game highlights for everyone and whatever studio jabber wasn't completely worthless, and have it ready to broadcast by 6 or 7 AM the next morning.
  13. Time to turn on MLB Network to see the depressing images ...
  14. Well, this is going about as well as could be hoped - Beckett has cruised, and when pushed (second and third, no out) shut them down while Shields has gotten hammered, the final blow a homer by of all people, Varitek. He hit five out in the spring, so I had some hopes that his bat would come around from the left side, and he hit two balls on the nose his first two at-bats. Gotta be happy with a homer on Opening Day.
  15. Well, no worries ... and the reigning AL MVP got off to a nice start!
  16. Well I may be mighty pissed off here in about an hour if it turns out Extra Innings doesn't show a feed from the delayed opening day for the Sox-Rays. I'm not seeing it on my Comcast guide channel, but you know NESN is doing the broadcast, planned or not, so how could they not? I guess I'll just have to wait with baited breath. There's always that MLB.com animated thingie I guess.
  17. You're being too considerate, Jack. A compiler has put his personal musical preferences in front of you. He didn't rent your ears for two hours plus another go-through. You have far more autonomy (or should feel that you do) then you are giving yourself. You don't owe anyone anything more than to listen as long as you can stand to listen. IMHO of course.
  18. I disagree that two discs spent with music you don't like is a tax on your time. Nowhere is it written that you have to endure the entire tune(s). If they suck, they suck, and you should hit "next" while jotting down NMCOT. Its two discs of tunes you enjoy that should take more of your time, because you'd actually want to listen to the whole thing. More time, with the compensation of more enjoyment.
  19. Yes, Sabathia is (in)famous for getting off to slow starts. More important question to me is how many extra pounds is he carrying (if any). That might get him one of those abdominal strains that will shelve him for a few weeks. What was up with the heating pad wrapped around his belly while he was on the bench? Just a way to stay warm or could it be a muscle he was trying to keep loose? Don't they set up heaters in the dugout so that guys don't have to put heating pads inside their jackets? I expect Sabathia to pitch well this year but I also have to wonder about his weight and the effect of all those innings and pitches the last two seasons.
  20. I was really scared there that the Yankees would still come away with a win, but all is right with the world now. Sabathia has one of his worst starts of his career (last time he had 0 strikeouts was in 2005 against Oakland, he went less than three and gave up 8 runs, he's had a start with no K's only five times in his career) and the Yankee bullpen blew it up, with supposedly key arms like Bruney and Marte stinking it up. Heck, we even got a Jeffrey Meier Special, only this time it went against the Yanks and in favor of the O's.
  21. "I don't think the Kisor DATE'S on Criss Cross ..." And "b" is only two letters away from "d"
  22. Well, I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. No life on his fastball, little command, as even Morgan was saying, few swings and misses, with a surprising lack of velocity. But it takes more than one bad start to draw conclusions. If healthy, he ought to pitch well enough and get enough support to win 20. But all bets are off if those league leading innings and pitches are going to catch up to him this season.
  23. Tell me this hypothesis is an impossible one. No, its not. Schapp is a part of the NY jazz scene, he could very well have done what I suggested. And furthermore, it was months after - not a day later, or the following weekend. Plenty of time had elapsed for Schapp to confirm what he had heard. So bugger off.
  24. How do you know that your bit of jazz trivia didn't make Schapp contact Curley and that he in fact did hear it direct from him? Regardless, when you think about it, would you say "some shmoe told me that he was friends with Curley Russell and Curley told him ..." or would you simply say "Curley told me ..." ?
