Looking around the web, it looks like I mistakenly thought that "Two Sides Of" (a Collectables reissue) was one of the Vault LPs. I do have Jazz Organs but it was courtesy of a friend. Sorry, MG!

With Coltrane's connection to Philly, I would bet that he was the inspiration (although they could just be taking "Train" from Dontrelle Willis' "D-Train" nickname). Isn't Hamels a hard throwing lefty? If I were the Phils, I'd play "I'm Old Fashioned" accompanied by clips of Steve Carlton, or of a bunch of older Phils pitchers.

I believe there were three Jack Wilson Vault LPs, and two of them have been reissued. Why this one hasn't is a mystery to me. Jim R. was trying to keep the secret because I had given him a dub of the LP, so his ID would not have been truly independent and spontaneous. So he gets partial credit for recognizing the tune and extra credit for not spilling the beans. MG gets credit for mentioning it as a possibility and Mike Weil gets partial credit for what I assume was a bit of research. Everyone happy with teacher's assessments? Cuz I got a few more lessons coming up.

So how did you find that, Randy? Did you hear of such a story or did you search by Dodo's name?

I recommend picturevillage.com According to the info displayed on my free account, albums, photos, space and bandwidth are all "unlimited" (which makes me wonder why there's a link next to it to "upgrade"). The only thing is, bitmaps aren't allowed. Allowed formats are: .jpg, .png, .gif, .swf, .mp3, .wma I've linked a lot of images from picturevillage to the org and as far as I know, no one's ever seen ads or blank spaces instead of the pics.

Couple of comments to add. Regarding dogs licking wounds/kissing people: Coltrane is so in love with Gracie, our Weimaraner we've had for a year now, that he gives her kisses just like he does us. Not necessarily with the same gusto, but he will lick her face or around her eyes, or whatever part of her anatomy is closest when they are sitting near each other on the couch. He is so on her, its amazing. I have to agree with my wife that we've never seen a male dog act this way with another dog. Regarding the question of people kissing dogs and how dogs respond: When I was living alone in Tallahassee up through my first year of marriage, I had a beagle named Bailey. It was just me and her and so I was this dog's entire life and she was, until Coltrane, the most affectionate dog I've had. So one day, I'm sitting on the recliner and she's on the couch. She's looking at me, I look at her and made the kissing sound. Bailey immediately stuck her tongue out and licked her nose. I kissed again. She did it again. I thought to myself, that was just coincidence, so I waited an extra couple of beats, and then I kissed the air once again. And like some ingrained pavlovian response, Bailey once again kissed back.

This was the only thing that made the day game palatable, even though it pisses me off that Jason Johnson pitches well enough to keep them in the game in the top of the seventh and the lose. Wang continues to not impress me. I wish I could find the exact quote, but I have read that if you look at Wang's strikeout rate, he is totally unique in having the success he does. And I don't just mean this year, or this league. I mean no one in the game's history has won 14 of 19 decisions with a strikeout rate of what? 2.0 per nine innings? Then again, I never had any respect for Andy Pettite and his stuff, yet he managed to win so what the hell do I know?

Interesting article, but several times it's talking about "kissing dogs". That's not really what we're talking about. It's dogs kissing us, not vice-versa. I very rarely put my mouth on any part of a dog. Kissing a dog on the snout may seem like a show of affection to us, but I suspect it would only confuse the dog. Anyway, the subject is humans being on the receiving end, and in general I'd say that involves the hands, the cheeks, the forehead... not the mouth (and I'm not saying there's no reason to consider what germs may be deposited on the body parts I mentioned, it's just that they're less likely to affect you in those places than they would if they went into your mouth... and mouth-to-mouth kissing between a dog and a human is a lot less common, I'd say). Actually, Jim, both the title of the poll and the second choice mentions "kissing dogs", and the act of kissing them back (snout or elsewhere) was meant to be implied in the first choice. And kissing dogs on the snout is definitely seen as a sign of affection by our dogs. Quick little pecks in rapid succession make our Weimaraner turn around and give tiny little kisses back. BTW, the article is dead on as far as licking and cleaning wounds go. Coltrane always goes after my nicks and cuts, and even if a wound is covered with a bandage before he sees it, he's checking it out and trying to fix it up. But that vet is not the kind of Dr. I prefer. The best vet we had always came in and sat down on the floor and loved up the dog first before anything else. Terrific bedside manner.

I was yelling at the TV (Jeter's run scoring hit) and Coltrane, with a very concerned look on his face, came over, climbed on top of me and started giving me doggie kisses all over my entire face (he hates it when I get upset, and this is his way of making it better) when this poll occured to me. Seems to me: #1) he clearly has a thing for children/young girls (reports that he was reassigned from one grade school due to being too "affectionate" with the kids; Thailand and other places in southeast Asia is where pedophiles go on "vacation". #2) Why would an ex-wife give him an alibi? And why can't her claim be checked out? #3) He does seem to be unduly interested in the case for a period of time - it could be a classic case of a nut "confessing". Which would be good because then we can go back to blaming the mother. OK, that was in poor taste.

that I seriously doubt. Wells vs Lidle on Monday favors the Sox, and Ponson vs Lester on Friday favors the Sox. Mussina and Wang haven't pitched very well recently, and Wang pitches downright crappy away from the Bronx (5+ ERA). I can see it going 3-2 for either team, but I seriously doubt it will go 4-1 or 5-0. And one more thing, Hinske, on his way from Toronto, rings up the Yanks at .370 clip, and has slugged .512 on the season. Late Edit to say: AND while the Sox have an off day to rest everyone, the Yanks get clobbered by Baltimore and burn their bullpen in the process, just in time for a day-night doubleheader and five games in four days. If they've ever needed Wang to go 8 + innings, its tomorrow. Too bad his last two starts have been far shorter. Yankee fans can't be as confident going into this series, methinks.

I don't know, but I assume they are on the trading circuit. I got it at the site-which-must-not-be-named. Guy there's a Kenny Dorham show with Sonny Red and Cedar Walton that Alan Grant broadcast available on the Magnetic Records, which I always presumed was a bootleg company. I've since replaced it with a lower generation reel that was transferred to CD. So its safe to say that there are more than a few Grant broadcasts in the trading market.

I hope they have the right guy but its never made sense that she was abducted and killed in her own home by an intruder. What intruder does that, and how could it happen with everyone home? Having said that, I am not aware of the information that led the District Judge to conclude that was what happened.

Definitely not. The old owners acted like it was an absolute requirement and tried to extort money from the city/state but the new owners realized it wasn't going to happen and that's why they put all of the money into the park, including all of the changes (Monster seats, RF seats, etc., etc.) and they continue to make further plans. I'm glad they aren't planning to replace it, even though their plan of maximizing revenue includes those ridiculously priced tickets. But Fenway is a beautiful place, inside and out, and that's a result of the efforts of John Henry, et. al.
