  1. But Max, you'll be in terrible danger! And, loving it!
  2. You are supposed to wait for Danny. ← Sorry, I think we'd need a wee bit more than 30 contributors to cover that opening bid.
  3. Sad news. I have fond memories of watching that show in syndication in the 70s.
  4. I'd say definitely not so now. The Royals finally beat ya and the Chisox won for the third time in a row. The deficit in the Central is 2.5 games, and the lead in the Wild Card is only .5. If the Sox and Yanks both win on Monday, with the Indians off, there will still be a tie for first place in the East, and a three-way tie for the Wild Card. Better take care of Tampa Bay (who beat the Angels Sunday to possibly tighten up the West before the showdown series in Oakland.)
  5. I had to borrow the LP from a historian/professor here at IU, who hipped me to the album. Hopefully it will emerge on CD some day. ← I picked up that RCA Camden version at Stereo Jack's back in June.
  6. No, I'd say they've stopped the bleeding by winning two in a row. If they had collapsed, the Indians would be in first by now and the white Sox would be struggling to hold onto the Wild card. While that is the outcome most favorable to the Red Sox, I don't see it happening. The Indians have the tougher opponent this week (didn't the Devil Rays SWEEP the Indians in August?) while the Pale Hose have the Tigers, who are pretty much in free fall, and as Paul likes to point out, they are on the road where they are inexplicably better.
  7. If I may, its that pinup queen's head super-imposed over Elvin's face.
  8. As Johnny Carson might say, "Wild, wild stuff." Man, I can only imagine the review Dusty Groove would give this if they ever had a copy on hand.
  9. Happy Birthday and thanks for your offerings over at Dime a Dozen!
  10. And Cleveland is whipping KC, so it will be a game and a half for the Wild Card with ten to play. Oh yeah, we're just where we want to be. But there is good news: Foulke's been shut down for the rest of the season. Hallelujah!
  11. 5-1 Yankees in the 7th. A one game deficit is assured. Yeah, that series at Fenway is gonna matter.
  12. Philly, El Guapo signed a contract with the Sox. Last I heard he was in Fort Myers, about thirty pounds heavier than he was when last seen. There were good reports at first but then I didn't hear anything else, and this was back maybe in June/July. Anyone remember when John Kruk was on Letterman, and he relayed a story about how he was smoking in public and some lady accosted him and objected that he's an athlete and shouldn't make a bad role model for kids, and he said, "Lady, I'm not an athlete. I'm a baseball player."
  13. And now I understand that the strong steering currents that are moving it so steadily NW are going to stop and the storm will sit over north Texas/OK Sunday through Tuesday with the potential for flash flooding? I hate to admit my geographic ignorance, but I hadn't previously realized Houston's relative proximity to the Gulf. If it really comes ashore at Galveston and into Houston its gonna be mighty ugly.
  14. Yeah, but Wickman's arm is gonna fall off! I see him in the highlights every damn night it seems! And Dan, you sound like Al bashing the Rangers! The Yankees have starting problems as well,(And the Devil Rays can beat up either team at will it appears!) so don't know why you are so sure they will be the team.... ← I can assure you that the only way I'll feel good soon is if we go into the final weekend at Fenway with a four game lead, and that ain't gonna happen. ← Yes it will, see my post above. Alternatively, riddle me this: what's more likely to happen at this moment: that the Yanks go into a tailspin or that the Red Sox win even 7 of their last 10?
  15. This has circulated in the private recording trading community for a while. Its nice, but I wouldn't call it essential. Of course, if you really dig Poindexter, given his short discography, your mileage may vary.
  16. This is supposed to settle the issue? David Ortiz 2005 Stats: OBP: .396 Slugging: .616 Batting Average: .300 Runs Batted In: 140 Homers: 46
  17. Welcome to the forum. If you've done interviews with people like Montoliu, I'm sure there is much that we'll learn from you! And don't worry about not digging the modern scene too much, there are plenty of people here who dig the same classic music/artists you do.
  18. Don't worry, Yankee fans, the series in Fenway will mean nothing, except perhaps for the Yankees to have the pleasure of eliminating the defending Champions. Here's how it will go: Thursday night, the Yankee lead will be a full game. Then the Red Sox will play three against Baltimore, and with Baltimore due to play better, and against a team staggering to the finish line and one they have tortured recently anyway, they will win two of three, while the Yankees sweep Toronto. Then the Red Sox stagger home for four against Toronto, who has already kicked our asses this season. Perhaps they split, if extremely lucky, while the Yankees win 4 more from Baltimore. By September 30, the lead will be at least four, there will be three to play, so who gives a fuck?
  19. The Yankees will never win another World Series until they get rid of A-Rod. He's spoiled, egotistical, and a divisive player in the clubhouse. Every team he goes to does nothing but lose because he drains valuable resources away from the pitching staff - which is what really wins games in the end. He's a money grubbing liar (that just happens to be gifted) and he makes my stomach turn. Go Red Sox!!! ← Repent, for the end is near! Johnny and I actually AGREE with each other.
  20. I think the main difference is that at this time last year, the other Wild Card teams had stunk it up or were collapsing, and the Sox had no worries about making the playoffs. But remember the state of the pitching? Pedro getting shelled by the likes of Tampa, talking about who his daddy is, reaching ten losses for the first time in ten years? Lowe imploding against the Yanks? The fact is we didn't play that great last September, and we caught a once-a-century hot streak to win it all. I don't think they'll do it again - having Schilling and Foulke be so ineffective or unavailable for so much time crippled us - but one thing I'll say about this team: it doesn't panic.
  21. Who knew that Renteria would have such problems? By all measures, it was the smarter signing. And Cabrera (while flawless in the field) has been even worse at bat than you'd expect, with an even lower OBP than he usually has. With the whole commitment of the organization to reinforcing getting on base, Cabrera was not the right man to keep. I can only hope that Renteria plays to his ability starting next year. Roberts deserved a chance to start somewhere. And Bellhorn? You cannot tell me that Bellhorn, after months of futility, deserved a spot after his rehab? it was an absolute blessing that Bellhorn went down and they went out and got Graffanino, who has been absolutely outstanding, as well as Alex Cora, about as good a utility man as you can find, considering he's been a starter his whole career. We should never forget Bellhorn for his clutch home runs in Games 6, 7 and 1, but that doesn't give you a free pass to stink up the joint forever.
  22. Liked this disc a bit more than #1, which is saying something, cuz there wasn't much wrong with #1 in the first place. Is Track 1 one of those Cedar Walton - David Williams collaborations? 2) and 7) were distressingly familiar sounding, but no names came to mind. I'm sure I'll go D'Oh when the answers are given. My only NMCOT track was #13. Otherwise, nice set, Bill. Thanks for putting it together.
  23. Wel, Upright Bill covers all the basses - who'da thunk it, huh? Nice disc but I didn't have a lot of brainstorms as I listened, cept the gimmes like Slam Stewart on track 6 and the original Messengers on 11. Is 12) Bud Powell? I had 13) as being from one of those PC-led Blue Note dates. Looking forward to the answers!
  24. And with the way the Sox and Yankees are playing, their only hope is to go into that series needing a sweep to tie. No one other than Papi and Wakefield is doing the job anymore. Wells couldn't pitch out of the third inning against Tampa, and needs a cortisone shot in his knee before his next start. Varitek can't buy a hit. "Gold Glove" Renteria can't make a play (that's been the case all f-ing year). Clement puts us in a seven run hole in only four outs Sunday. Graffanino is out again. Youklis is done. Damon can't throw the ball in. Shit, they came home to Fenway and averaged three runs a game against Oakland! Meanwhile, the Yankees are peaking at just the right time, and we are going to be treated to more deification of Joe Torre and his "brilliance".
  25. You heard it here first: The Yankees, White Sox and Indians are play-off bound. The Red Sox are NOT. Mother fucking assholes will find a way to fuck it all away.
