  1. Mandatory Evacuation Ordered for New Orleans
  2. Make that 160 mph winds, Category 5, as of 6 am. Hurricane Center "Strike Probability" chart shows New Orleans as the number one most likely point of landfall, together with some other LA town, Buras. This could be incredibly ugly. My wife just told me that FEMA's model for a Category 4 or 5 Hurricane hitting New Orleans predicts 60,000 deaths, potentially.
  3. While I don't believe it can happen, the fact of the matter is that it is simply remarkable that the Sox have reached this point in the season in the position they are in, considering the injuries to Schilling and Foulke. Would the Yanks be talking playoffs right now if they'd gotten four starts from the Unit or Mussina all year, and had an ineffective Mariano Rivera go from blowing saves and losing games to missing six weeks with knee surgery? Don't think so.
  4. Shows how crazy baseball can be: KC butchers a game ending DP and the Yanks somehow string together five straight hits for a ridiculous comeback. Then the Sox blow a six run lead at home where they were riding a 14 game win streak. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
  5. Do so with a Pez Dispenser.
  6. What recording is that?
  7. That's the man. Didn't Jeffrey also, at one time, incorporate into his homerun trot, flying like a plane? ← It was the "one wing down" thing....kinda irratating! ← I think he called it "flap down."
  8. Well that didn't keep me from deleting the threads discussing the recent One Night Preserved Box Set auction/distribution.
  9. Just click on the "Google" button on the left side of the tool bar and then, from the drop-down menu, select "Clear Seach History." ← And ever since my wife installed the google tool bar, I've been hesitant for certain searches (NOT porn, more along the lines of celebrity cheesecake). Thanks for the tip, Ron!
  10. I gotta re-listen because I definitely don't remember extended "goodbyes" from the group.
  11. Lucky us, I woke up to having power and a benign, sunny sky. But if we don't hear from Marty or Evan, we may presume that they're without.
  12. Follow up on the Bradley story, from MLB.com: And this is the guy who thinks he's the "leader" of the team? What a maroon.
  13. Further update: Landfall actually occured further south than anticipated, between Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood. Still we've had some very strong winds and heavy rain, yet the power and satelite TV has held on. Don't know how long that will last though as the up-to-the-minute radar shows another strong line of storms just starting to come on shore near Boca/Delray. If I post again tonite, then we made it through that one, too. Edit: Just realized that Evan is keeping the images at the start of the thread up to date, and you can see exactly where the eye made landfall.
  14. The version I have has perfectly acceptable mono sound, and its my opinion that everything this band recorded is worth hearing.
  15. If this is SOP, then why is the lab even making such a statement? If this is how its done, the lab needn't say anything. This looks like an ass-covering statement which ought to not be at all necessary, unless something isn't right with the reporting of those who have had it in for Armstrong for seven long years.
  16. And continue to be an insufferable ass.
  17. But wasn't it the lab that was the source for the connection in the original reporting?
  18. What? Now THE LAB is denying a link to Armstrong? Looks to me like Brownie and a few other people owe him an apology.
  19. Back to the purpose of the thread: Its still just a strong tropical storm, but now I am hearing that landfall is predicted for the Broward County/Palm Beach County line, which puts me and Marty very much in the area that will get the "worst" of this storm, whatever that may be. Glad we bought a generator back in June, I just hope we've got enough gas.
  20. But it'll be a few days before we're Walkin on Sunshine.
  21. HUH? His "handlers" told him to make a right turn in the batter's box on the tapper back to the mound in Tampa Bay? His "handlers" told him to go take a leak inside the monster but barely get out in time for the next pitch?
  22. True, but is there a team in the AL that wants to face a lineup like that?
  23. Heading into this critical final month, I have to say that I was struck by the season batting averages of last night's Red Sox lineup, which figures to be the every day lineup the rest of the way: Boston AVG Damon .331 Renteria .287 Ortiz .297 Ramirez .283 Nixon .293 Varitek .301 Olerud .308 Mueller .298 Graffanino .306 With the two black holes, Bellhorn (released) and Millar (replaced by Olerud) gone, what team wants to face this lineup in October? For pete's sake, the lowest average is Manny's, and with the way he's hitting homers and driving in runs, who wants to face him? If I'm not mistaken, the White Sox don't have a single regular hitting above .300. The Sox have seven who are .293 or higher! Only pitching can keep this team from repeating, and its up to Schilling to get himself situated at the top of the rotation and Foulke to be Foulke. Otherwise, we need to have the courage to let rookies like Papelbon and Craig Hansen step in and show what they can do. Another title is there for the taking.
  24. Schilling doesn't speak for the Red Sox or the fans. His support of Bush was a big embarrassment to all of us. I'll cut him some slack, however, because he did help to win the championship. Whoever said baseball players had any brains, anyway? ← His support of Bush was a big embarassment for some not "all of us". Some of the fans have no problem with his political views.
  25. Well, I'd like to know who voted for "win the division". I know Dave James and MartyJazz have lost all faith for this year, or has that changed?
