  4. And when I called he said he was just finishing his lunch - a sammich! Just kidding about the sammich part. But I did send him a copy of the Four Sounds demo along with some questions about the group, and while I need to call him next week when he has more time, it looks like he's interested in doing an interview with me! Cool beans - I'm gonna have a chance to chat with the drummer of the Three Sounds. The former GHF is almost as excited as he was when the 78 arrived. Oh, and one thing he said about that Boddie Recording studio - he said the guy was recording them all the time while they rehearsed, and that the guy probably has amazing stuff, cuz people like Roy Haynes, Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan used to come by and jam with the band, and he'd be rolling tape all the while ... think there's any hope that there are other 78s out there?

  8. What is it about Carrie that y'all don't like? She's cute, she sings better than most of the remaining contestants ... is it a kneejerk reactions against country songs?

  11. Well, one of the rockers got bounced, and the blonde kid and the serial killer still remain ... On the positive side, we won't have to watch Constantine follow that annoying camera with his eyes all the damn time.

  17. Well, since I just got the message from Michael, my hopes are up! I'll take what I can get... so we're talking about 3 Different selects for the Three Sounds (total of 9CD's)? If so do we have an ETA???? No ETA. And no 100% firm commitment - but definitely a strong implication.
  18. Well, I'm not so sure. Now they're saying that Schilling's injury is in fact related to his ankle surgery. Seems that he felt it on a pitch in his last start, and he thought that he might have broken up some scar tissue. Then they found the bruise on an X-Ray. They even told him that if he continued to pitch, there would be a real possibility of breaking the ankle and ending his season. What did Bill Simmons say about how long a team gets a "pass" after winning the World Series?
  19. No one's saying it yet, but I have to wonder whether there can be any relationship to the completely new field that was installed at Fenway. Its supposed to be state of the art, modern drainage, etc., and the biggest change is, the infield is no longer 'crowned". Til now, if you were sitting in the third base dugout and looked out at the rightfielder, you couldn't see below his shins because of the crowning of the infield. So, the latest I heard about the field was that it had to 'settle' - so is it a remote possibility that the field has something to do with these injuries?
  20. Well, since I just got the message from Michael, my hopes are up!
  21. OK, now its time to go into full crisis mode.
  22. The thing that really frosts me about your comment is that rap music gets a pass on all these things. No live musicians, just repititve electronic sound. And yet the masses are drooling all over the stuff. When elements of hip hop get incorporated into R&B or, heaven forbid jazz, then it becomes a bad thing. Y'all want to have it both ways. ROFLMAO. Sorry Rainy, but I don't want it both ways, and I don't drool over anything the masses drool over. And rap gets no pass from me under any circumstances.

  24. Thanks for posting the link, Hans. Missed it the first time cuz I usually don't wade through the different opinions of different remasterings.
  25. Opinions should be judged on their individual merits. Its certainly plausible that if Stone were black (not touching the part about weight), she wouldn't have to deal with issues of "authenticity". And FWIW, I tend to agree with Jim S. on the difference between older and newer soul singers. And as for drum machines, Rainy, its a perfectly legitimate gripe, and it applies far too often nowadays. As a presumed supporter of real, live musicians, you'd think you wouldn't dismiss it quite so readily.
