I am surprised to see George Avakian's name on the label. I remember Chris Albertson telling of the time he was told that if he ever did anything for RCA, he would never again work for Columbia. This recording was made after Avakian's involvement with RCA. Notwithstanding the fact that he was Lloyd's manager, I'm surprised that somebody (William Paley?) let him be involved, and let his name be put on the label.

Yes! I met and chatted for an hour with Manfred the afternoon of May 5, 1970. That evening I saw the band play at George Washington University, and Manfred let me plug my cassette recorder into his system! Great memories.

John, I opened up Disc B on May 5 last week. Because I liked the band so much at the time, my curiosity is a big factor in my opinion. I would have loved to have all this music then. But today, I find the film soundtrack more interesting than pleasant to listen to. I can recommend this to the group's fans, but I don't think people here who are unfamiliar with the band would find this box particularly appealling. I would strongly recommend that they get copies of the band's two released albums instead.

This is my kind of album. The group sounds like a performance with the tape rolling. All four of the quartet are competent. The music is low key, and can be enjoyed at a low volume.
