British Columbia Lions 28....Toronto Argonauts 23 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4529720 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=405388 The Lions were the dominant team, but were unable to get safely ahead of the Argos. Travis Lulay threw a TD pass for the 22nd consecutive game, which moves him into second place behind Sam the Rifle Etcheverry.

Google has a new feature. If you type in a famous person's name followed by bacon number, Google will say how many degrees that person is separated from Kevin Bacon. Congratulate me, boys! I'm three degrees from Kevin Bacon! As you know, I have met two women who were internationally famous for their beauty, so I plugged their names in. Stephanie Zimbalist is only 2 degrees from Bacon, and Jean the Shrimp Shrimpton is only 3 degrees separated from him. So you add one degree for yourself to the number of the famous person you have met, and there you go.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 51....Edmonton Eskimos 8 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4529623 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=405361 Edmonton scored the first 8 points, and Hamilton scored the next 51. It was a good game in the first half. Kerry Joseph started, although Steven Jyles did come in to play in the second half, as did the third string quarterback Goltz. The momentum changed on the last play of the first half. The Ticats led 9-8, when Brody McKnight's first field goal attempt as a pro (a 48 yarder) was blocked and run back for a touchdown by Bakari Grant. It was all Ticats in the second half.

Calgary Stampeders 44....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 3 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4529442 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=405307 The Bomber offense is brutal. I think they got 12 net yards in the first half. Apparently the problem is not just that they are playing with the backup quarterbacks (they played all three tonight), but their o-line isn't doing the job either. The defense soon became exhausted and the Stampeders were able to cruise. Nik Lewis joined Allen Pitts as the only Stampeders to have 10,000 yards receiving in a career. There are now 16 in league history with 10,000 receiving yards. Buck Pierce will return from the injured list next week to start for Winnipeg.

jlh, by no means am I saying that Isaacson is an idiot. But over the years I have seen very little analysis of the Apple products, and a lot of applause for their sales figures. Any idiot can do that. In fact, I learned a great deal from the book about why someone might want to be an Apple customer. By the way, I did feel that Isaacson glossed over the fact that Apple products are (relatively speaking) for those for whom price is no object. Jobs focused on making the best products, rather than offering the best value. Of course, it's for each consumer to decide for himself whether Apple (during his second tenure) offered the best items and whether the closed system offered the best value.

is this the way to market 'jazz'?
GA Russell replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I just heard what I believe is the single from Krall's new album. It is called something like "I've got a wide, wide river to cross". It's country! Her singing and the musicians with her were quite good. Unfortunately, it is a very boring song with the same riff repeated ad nauseum. But that never stopped country music fans! This could be a breakthrough for her. -
I finished Walter Isaacson's book about Steve Jobs last week. I suppose that any idiot can say that a successful businessman is a genius. I wonder what people would have said about Jobs and his products if he had put out the same things but not many people bought them.

Computer Gurus: question re DVD blanks
GA Russell replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Thanks guys! I'll look into moving it onto my hard drive. I guess I'll just have to eat the cost of a short spindle of DVD blanks. It's not the end of the world. By the way, the movie is out of print, and this was the only seller except for one who was very, very high. So I guess that explains it. -

I recently bought a DVD from an Amazon UK Marketplace Seller, and it appears that I received a DVD-R. It's purple. My understanding is that these decompose over time, and that it would be wise to make a copy by burning it at a slow speed. I have never burned a DVD before, and am unaware of why I should expect to ever burn another in the future. So I will have to buy a short spindle of DVD blanks. Here's my question: Can I use the remaining DVD blanks to burn CDs?

Apropos, I have come across an old article that mentions a couple of Yogi-isms. "My little son can't wait to shave, so he can grow a beard." At a store selling fishing equipment, a sign advertised, "All the worms you want for a dollar." Yogi asked for $2 worth.

New jazz box sets on the horizon?
GA Russell replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
If the Douglas box is priced like the current sets are, I'll plan to get it for Christmas. Maybe the Adams too. -
Larry, the Greek alphabet extends to Omega, way past Omicron! Please don't tell me that you dropped the course rather than learn the alphabet!

Congrats BfB!!! I only listen to spotify on my desktop. Is the app for mobile devices only? -
I normally ignore the weekly and monthly awards because I think that what is important is what happens on the playing field rather than sportswriters' votes. However, I think it is worth noting that Jon Cornish has been named the Canadian of the Week for the past three consecutive weeks. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=405033

In what doesn't make much sense, the Eskimos traded Derek Schiavone and next year's first and fourth round draft picks to the Als for unproven kicker Brody McKnight. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=405105
