  1. Here's a Jim Beam commercial from a year ago that I bet this group will enjoy. The YouTube thread is so long that I wouldn't bet the ranch that it hasn't already been posted some time. If so, enjoy it again!
  2. CDs to riverrat, Noj and king ubu are in the postman's hands!
  3. Brad, yes. A few years ago the retail industry noticed that it had a very good day with online sales the Monday following Thanksgiving. They came up with the hypothesis that people spent the weekend in the stores, and then on Monday, the first day back at work, they do their shopping online while at work. So ever since they have been promoting the concept of Cyber Monday as if it is an undisputed fact. Kind of like wishing will make it so. And maybe it will. But the last couple of years I have read that the peak of sales during the Christmas season is actually around Dec. 11-15. So I think that the whole Cyber Monday thing is an invention rather than a description of the habits of the American customers.
  4. Congratulations Noj! For his prize for winning the Grey Cup contest, Noj has chosen the Sam Cooke. Any other takers, since I'm going to the post office?
  5. 2009 Grey Cup Montreal Alouettes 28....Saskatchewan Roughriders 27 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4270670 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/mont...article1381842/ http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1382051/ http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Gre...973361-sun.html I'm still too exhausted from listening to the end of the game to write my thoughts about it. Tomorrow I'll post some more links about the game if I can find some good ones (and I expect that I will). Suffice it to say, there's a reason I consider Canadian rules football to be the greatest game in the world.

  21. 33/38 Like everyone else, put McLaughlin instead of Mahavishnu. Also missed Return to Forever, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham and Michael Brecker.
  22. I don't know what my family (my sister's family, really) would know if it were not for me. The one name they know well that has not been mentioned is Vince Guaraldi. I'm sure that if I had never been born, they would still know Al Hirt, Errol Garner, Miles Davis, Stan Getz and Dave Brubeck.
  23. The CFL Awards winners were announced tonight: Calvillo Chick Foley Taylor Flory Mallett http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1379427/
  24. The Globe & Mail's website today has a terrific 30-minute podcast in which David Naylor and Allan Maki discuss the teams and the coaches. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1378785/
  25. The Vanier Cup game is for the Canadian collegiate football championship. College football isn't very popular in Canada, and not many people go to the Vanier Cup game. This year they're playing it in Quebec City. It is sold out in an 18,000 seat stadium, and the schools (Queens and Calgary) and screaming for more tickets! The organizers sold all the tickets without allotting any for the schools' fans! In addition, a bank is having its annual meeting in Quebec City at the same time, so the hotel rooms are already booked. This will be a Vanier Cup for the ages, no matter how the game goes. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/nation...article1377848/
