  1. Four good defensive games this week: Winnipeg Blue Bombers 27....Edmonton Eskimos 17 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4257825.htm Winnipeg's smallest crowd since 1999 (just under 22,000) saw the Bombers win their second in a row, their first winning streak of the season. The win has put the Bombers back in the playoff hunt. Jovon Johnson ran back a missed FG 118 yards for a TD. ***** British Columbia Lions 19....Saskatchewan Roughriders 16 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4257870.htm Darian Durant had a bad day, but the Riders almost pulled it out. But Sean Whyte won the game with a FG with five seconds left. ***** Montreal Alouettes 27....Toronto Argonauts 8 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4257985.htm Believe it or not, the Argos made a game of it for a while. The score was 11-8 deep into the second quarter, but the Als shut them down the rest of the way. ***** Calgary Stampeders 15....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 14 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4258113.htm Henry Burris had a bad day, and the Stamps just squeaked by. In the last few seconds, a sack put the Ticats out of field goal range. ***** Once again, the Lions have called Bret Anderson out of retirement. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4258480.htm ***** Now it is Kerry Joseph publicly criticizing Bart Andrus. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1314708/ ***** It looks like the Bombers and Barrin Simpson have settled their differences. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/simp...article1315247/ ***** Gregg Xenakes Week 16 preview http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4258829
  2. Conn, I believe that the greatest of all time was Terry Bradshaw. I think that he was the most accurate passer of all time, often throwing between three defenders to get the ball to Lynn Swann. And in addition, what many people don't know is that he called his own plays. And, of course, he was a winner, winning four Super Bowls. The other to keep in mind is Otto Graham. He was a little before my time, but no one can top this: He played pro ten years, and played in the league championship game every year.
  3. Happy Birthday DukeCity!
  4. Happy Birthday 2009 HolyStitt!
  5. Happy Birthday 2009 marcoliv!
  6. Happy Birthday Brad!
  7. I saw a comment from a sports writer this week that JaMarcus Russell is looking like he may be the biggest first-round bust since Ryan Leaf and Andre Ware. I don't understand why the Raiders let Jeff Garcia go.
  8. Twins win 13-4. Playoff game Tuesday in Minnesota. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/twin...article1311650/
  9. Tigers win. Twins lead 7-1.
  10. Happy Birthday 2009 Ken!
  11. Here's an article that says that the Lions signed Printers to an incentive-laden $100,000 contract. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1309185/
  12. Gregg Xenakes Week 15 preview http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4257403.htm
  13. MG, Frank left Cliff Bennett to join The Searchers, not The Hollies. AFAIK, he is still with them, 45 years later.
  14. Happy Birthday 2009 Rod!
  15. Dave, I've got to disagree with you about The Searchers. I had their three US albums recorded after Tony was replaced by Frank, and I still think they're terrific 45 years later! As I recall, they were called The New Searchers LP, #4 and Take Me For What I'm Worth.
  16. I had (and enjoyed) Bus Stop and Look Through Any Window when I was in high school, but I found that their high-pitched harmonies don't wear well on me. I often change the channel when they come on now.
  17. Thanks for posting that John. I recall reading a few years ago that a scientist fed into a computer knowledge about DNA, and working backwards, came to the conclusion that it is possible that all humans are descended from one woman who lived 100,000 or so years ago.
  18. I quickly got sick of Diana Krall within a year of first hearing her, but I think that this is her second best album next to All For You.
  19. My recollection is that Lloyd's breakthrough came about when he was touring Russia with Keith Jarrett, Cecil McBee and Jack DeJohnette. George Avakian went with them, and he had Lloyd send Russian scenery picture postcards to many US jazz disc jockeys. So the DJs started playing his records more often.
  20. I've just listened to Rabo De Nube tonight for the first time in a very long time, and I liked it more than ever. I agree with the above comments that Jason Moran's piano work make the album.
  21. Paul McCallum broke his wrist the first game of the season, and the Lions put him on the nine game injured list. His replacement Sean Whyte has done a great job, so the Lions have given McCallum permission to seek a trade. http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Vete...6323/story.html ***** Here's a good article with a number of news items: The Als have signed a 20-year lease with Percival Molson Stadium. Dario Romero is out for the year, so the Eskimos have signed Jerome Haywood. The Sept. 20 Eskimos-Riders game had the biggest TV audience ever for a league regular season game. Ben Cahoon (who in my opinion is the best player ever to have never received the Most Outstanding Player Award) is closing in on some league records. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/New...183126-sun.html
  22. Ray Nettles died today of cancer. He was about my age. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/200...1195261-cp.html ***** The Eskimos have signed Anthony Malbrough. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Edm...1188981-cp.html
  23. The little girl after whom the song was named has died of lupus. http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-...0,1635062.story
