  1. Twins win 13-4. Playoff game Tuesday in Minnesota. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/twin...article1311650/
  2. Tigers win. Twins lead 7-1.
  3. Happy Birthday 2009 Ken!
  4. Here's an article that says that the Lions signed Printers to an incentive-laden $100,000 contract. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1309185/
  5. Gregg Xenakes Week 15 preview http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4257403.htm
  6. MG, Frank left Cliff Bennett to join The Searchers, not The Hollies. AFAIK, he is still with them, 45 years later.
  7. Happy Birthday 2009 Rod!
  8. Dave, I've got to disagree with you about The Searchers. I had their three US albums recorded after Tony was replaced by Frank, and I still think they're terrific 45 years later! As I recall, they were called The New Searchers LP, #4 and Take Me For What I'm Worth.
  9. I had (and enjoyed) Bus Stop and Look Through Any Window when I was in high school, but I found that their high-pitched harmonies don't wear well on me. I often change the channel when they come on now.
  10. Thanks for posting that John. I recall reading a few years ago that a scientist fed into a computer knowledge about DNA, and working backwards, came to the conclusion that it is possible that all humans are descended from one woman who lived 100,000 or so years ago.
  11. I quickly got sick of Diana Krall within a year of first hearing her, but I think that this is her second best album next to All For You.
  12. My recollection is that Lloyd's breakthrough came about when he was touring Russia with Keith Jarrett, Cecil McBee and Jack DeJohnette. George Avakian went with them, and he had Lloyd send Russian scenery picture postcards to many US jazz disc jockeys. So the DJs started playing his records more often.
  13. I've just listened to Rabo De Nube tonight for the first time in a very long time, and I liked it more than ever. I agree with the above comments that Jason Moran's piano work make the album.
  14. Paul McCallum broke his wrist the first game of the season, and the Lions put him on the nine game injured list. His replacement Sean Whyte has done a great job, so the Lions have given McCallum permission to seek a trade. http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Vete...6323/story.html ***** Here's a good article with a number of news items: The Als have signed a 20-year lease with Percival Molson Stadium. Dario Romero is out for the year, so the Eskimos have signed Jerome Haywood. The Sept. 20 Eskimos-Riders game had the biggest TV audience ever for a league regular season game. Ben Cahoon (who in my opinion is the best player ever to have never received the Most Outstanding Player Award) is closing in on some league records. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/New...183126-sun.html
  15. Ray Nettles died today of cancer. He was about my age. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/200...1195261-cp.html ***** The Eskimos have signed Anthony Malbrough. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Edm...1188981-cp.html
  16. The little girl after whom the song was named has died of lupus. http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-...0,1635062.story
  17. The Argos gave away Byron Parker, one of their best players, to the Eskimos today. The veterans don't seem to think much of Bart Andrus. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/park...article1304369/
  18. Her appeal has always been a mystery to me. Too nasal most of the time.
  19. Montreal Alouettes 42....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 8 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.../AJN4256319.htm A real dud. The Ticats didn't show up. I turned it off during the second quarter. ***** Calgary Stampeders 27....British Columbia Lions 18 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4256357 Decent game. The Lions faded in the stretch. ***** Saskatchewan Roughriders 23....Edmonton Eskimos 20 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4256545 Lots of fun. I think there were seven lead changes. History was made as a league record 62,517 attended. ***** Winnipeg Blue Bombers 29....Toronto Argonauts 24 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=s...aspx?id=4256649 The Bombers had a 29-9 lead after three, and almost blew it. Michael Bishop had his best game of the season. Apparently Mike Kelly no longer has much of a hand in the offense. The Argos have a pretty tough schedule the rest of the way, and it is difficult to see how they can make the playoffs.
  20. With five minutes to go the score was tied at 67. Geelong won the game with a goal with two and a half minutes left. At the very end Geelong scored an uncontested goal to win by 12. This was the first time in history for a team to trail after each of the first three periods, and come back and win it in the fourth. Geelong has been in the Grand Final the past three years. They won two years ago. St. Kilda has not won since 1966.
  21. At halftime, St. Kilda leads by one goal (six points). Geelong had the early momentum and scored the first three goals. But St. Kilda dominated for a while and took the lead. Geelong came back with two goals, then St. Kilda tied the game at 31. Then Geelong scored two goals in 45 seconds and it looked good for them. But St. Kilda scored three goals in the last minute of the half! I have to wonder if that's ever been done before.
  22. It's great to see you back MG!
  23. Tonight's the night! The game is scheduled to start at 12:30 am eastern, 9:30 pm pacific. I am going to use the link above to see if that still works. This year the Geelong Cats return to face the St. Kilda Saints. I remember when Australian rules football was on ESPN every week, St. Kilda was the worst team in the league. But that was a long time ago.
