  1. There are TWO incredibly dumb things at work here, the playoff/World Series(Side note- who holds the record for 'post-season' HRs? Dave Justice!!! Mantle hit 18 WS HRs.) merging, and that there's something wrong after 7 games. Should we have also buried the Mets when they started 0-5? Fer cryin' out loud, they play 162 games. You can't reasonably judge after 7 games.
  2. And if you take the 'F' train(I work by Rockefeller Center, so I will), you get off near another landmark- Downtown Music Gallery! If 400,000+ people show up, it rains like mad, etc. can we call it Catestastock?
  3. Sometimes it comes down to how many can I get for --- dollars. Sometimes one or two stand out, then it's eeny-miney-mo time...
  4. Me too! I'm always interested in Indian music. Here's a thread I started recently: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...=18551&hl=tabla Me three! Welcome to the board Hang around here and you'll forget more than many people ever knew about music. Tell us what you like, too, in Hindi & Urdu music. If I'm not mistaken, EKE BBB knows a lot of music from the '20s- you might want to PM him.
  5. I bought it yesterday, and the third cut, by Moussa Doumbia, knocks my socks off! You can tell that he's listened to his James Brown with some of the sounds he makes, but he's also got the psychedelic thing in there too. My appetite has now been whetted and I want to get some more recordings by Moussa Doumbia. Does anyone have a good source, can anyone post a link to somewhere in cyberspace where they specialize in this stuff? I've tried Ebay, Dusty(the bastards!), and a few others, and they all come up blank. If anyone has a link, etc. please post it. Thanks much in advance.
  6. I'll be there- I'm looking forward to meeting you folks!
  7. Tonight was Guacamole & Chicken fajitas. Last night was chili and guacamole. Tomorrow's dinner will NOT be of the Southwestern variety.
  8. That says it quite well. Welcome to the board Neveronfriday
  9. Anybody want these two, or one of them? Frank Wess Orchestra 'Entre Nous' on Concord Emily Remler Retrospective V2 'Compositions' compilation of cuts from about 5 discs. You know the drill-PM with snail mail, etc. These two lovely discs have been claimed and should get to the post office tomorrow. enjoy them, guys!
  10. Great story, Al, thanks so much for posting it. It's really heartening when you teach your kid something like you did and they appreciate it too. Sounds like you're doing a great job as a dad and you have a great kid(They frequently go hand-in-hand!).It's great that you are involved in his team, also. From what I see, kids sports has become a battleground in some places for frustrated parents. Great to see someone giving the kids positive reinforcement. My son is 12, and every now and then he shows me that he actually was listening when I droned on about life, etc.
  11. Nice pix, Jim and best of luck with the new disc. I'm in, just sent my $$. This is one release I'm eagerly awaiting. I played some Organissimo at my weekly handball get together a few times and it was very well-received. Most of the guys I play handball with are not big jazz fans, but they dig their Organissimo! When you guys play any gigs in NYC, please announce it-I'l try my best to make it and even bring some people.
  12. I have to see the new Star Wars movie- my 12year old son wants to see it. The last two Star Wars movies were rather dull to me, as if Lucas got caught up in gadgets and technology and forgot about character and plot. That's my $0.02 Fantastic Four might be a lot of fun in the same vein as Spiderman flicks- get a big bucket of popcorn and get wowed! FF also has Jessica Alba
  13. Catesta, Let me know the where and when of lunch/dinner with Maren- if I possibly can, I'd love to join you folks. I can then meet my first board members.

    The Who

Are there any Who tunes that are NOT on commercials or used as theme songs for TV shows?
  15. Weekend Recap: Friday was pizza, as it is every Friday at my house. I buy frozen pizza dough and take it out on Friday morning before I leave for work. When I get home it is ready to be worked into a pizza. Pepperonni for my wife and son, plain for me. Saturday was chicken cacciatore, and I made carrot cake & brownies. Sunday was salmon broiled with dill, shallots, white wine and lemon. Also, shrimp sauteed in EV olive oil and garlic on top of some fra diavolo sauce(From a jar, but very good) and penne. Tonight was chicken & mushrooms sauteed in EV olive oil, shallots, & white wine.
  16. Or maybe the first led Zeppellin Pope, John Paul Jones I
  17. I'm a Yankee fan in NYC and I heard Rizzuto say stuff like that for years- thanks for posting that, Randy.
  18. Regardless of shirt colour, you might find that people will be looking at your medallion. I plan on getting one when I hit 50ish. and don't forget the pinkie ring! And you've also reached the age where you can wear a Speedo at the beach!
  19. 'Man in the Green Shirt' is also the opening cut on the Weather Report disc 'Talespinnin'(written by Zawinul)
  20. I'm not sure this is such a stupid question when you consider the process involved with appointing a new pope. Well, I'm with Chris this time...he has been quite ill for quite some time, they have to be prepared at this time... There is a well-established process for electing a Pope. first the College of Cardinals waits for the pope to die, then they have an election where one of the cardinals is elected as Pope. Traditionally,if I recall correctly, when the votes are cast, each cardinal places a pellet in a chamber and they are then lit on fire. If there is a 'no' vote by anyone,a black pellet is placed in the chamber and the resulting smoke has some black in it- if the vote is unanimous, the smoke is white and there is a new Pope. The smoke can be seen throughout Vatican City, so it is easy to tell when the new Pope is elected. There's a huge amount of politics involved in trying to sway a faction to support one or another candidate, and I believe that JP2, the present Pope, was a compromise to sway a faction that was tired of a lonnng string of Italian Popes. It will be interesting to see if a conservative Pope such as JP2 is elected, or if a more liberal one is elected, such as the short-lived reign of JP1.
  21. Gas is about $2.39 a gallon here, and I'm thankful that both my wife and I take the subway to work- $76 a month each for a monthly pass. I have a Toyota Echo, which gets very good mileage, and I spend about $6-7 a week on gas.
  22. Excellent work, AB!
  23. I love 'reality' TV- the end result of it is I watch less TV!
  24. Anyone else NOT agree with this opinion? As the British might say, that is 'spot on'. Outside of racism, I could never understand why people hated him so much. True, he probably got a guilty guy off, but his JOB was to get him off, and he did a splendid job of that. RIP
