  3. #1005 Ordered Monday evening, on my porch when I came home from work today
  4. I have 'READY FOR FREDDIE' in a non-RVG edition. Who wants it? Post(reply) and PM(snail mail address) and it is yours. Great idea Ben Wallace even likes it
  5. Be very carefull. I might come along. Chuck, I extend the same hospitality to you, even if you're feeling kinda cranky
  6. B-3r, next time you come to visit NYC I want to meet and hang out with you and Alison and whomever comes with you. Glad you had a good time in NYC, and if you ever gig there, I'm there!
  7. And the high bidder so far has zero feedback-if I'm the seller I'm not counting my money yet.
  8. Do the math-CD Universe is slightly cheaper.
  9. Welk did a tribute to Duke Ellington and announced a tune as 'Take a train'
  10. I made guacamole tonight, using a recipe I got from some newspaper a long time ago: 2Avocados 4 heaping tablespoons good salsa 1 finely minced jalapeno or other hot pepper juice of 1/2 lime minced cilantro 1 clove garlic minced 2 tablespoons minced scallion(white & green part) 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin couple dashes tabasco sauce couple shakes cayenne pepper mash & mix and you're ready for the chips!
  11. Chicken Fajitas & guacamole.
  12. I went to Saphire a few years ago for a lunch buffet and the food was excellent. It's at 1845 Broadway(63rd?) (212)245-4444.
  13. ...in the name of love
  14. However, China has greatly increased its industrial capacity, leading to higher demand. Coupled with OPEC's near monopoly on oil supplies and refusal to pump more oil, higher demand + static supply= higher prices. I posted before I read of the retirements and I will now retire the economics talk myself.
  15. RIP to the Organmaster I came home from work today and in the mailbox is the latest issue of Downbeat, complete with an article about the DeFranceso/Smith recording. I guess timing is everything.
  16. Guess what I just read!!! Miho Hatori is the supposedly the illegitimate daughter of Sun Ra(!). (Source) She was also born on Venus (or so she claims, same source as above). Another pic of Miho: Probably another case of immaculate conception. Gee, I dunno--Venus is a hell of a long way from Saturn. Think she's making it up? Sun Ra DID 'Travel the Spaceways'
  17. 'We also have to sell to people who don't buy the crap we normally sell', and with that, the marketing guy dislocated his shoulder while patting himself on the back. Sharp eye, Chandra
  18. Tonight was Chicken Cacciatore with cheesecake for desert. Tomorrow is buffalo wings for the big bowl.
  19. I'd try cheese- has anyone mentioned that?
  20. That sounds so good I'm getting hungry after dinner!
  21. I've seen the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis big band at the Village Vanguard, Gil Evans at Sweet Basil's, Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin(on a double bill with the Mel Lewis big band-by that time Thad Jones had passed away), the Basie band after Basie's passing, as special guests backing Manhattan Transfer(!!!!), Sun Ra(!!!), the Arkestra, Lester Bowie's Hip-Hop Feelharmonic Orchestra(!!!). I can't say there was a bad one in the bunch, and to see and hear the power and sheer punch of a big band, especially in a small club, is a great experience.
  22. Can Clapton play like that anymore? In Cream he used to just go all out when he soloed- hard to imagine him doing that now. Jazz Cat- check out the live stuff if you want to hear some Cream with the doors off.
  23. You know I hardly ever make jerk chicken- there are so many people from Jamaica in Brooklyn that I can drive 5 minutes and get a choice of jerk joints.
  24. Speaking of Italian, the first day of the big Northeast blizzard I went crazy Italian. In the space of three hours I made a big pot of tomato sauce('gravy' to Sicilians), 2 dozen meatballs, baked ziti and eggplant parmigiana. We ate well despite the heavy snow. Tonight's dinner was a dill feature- cucumber salad with dill, steamed stringbeans with butter and dill, and broiled chicken cutlets marinated in olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, parsley, cumin, scallions, cayenne pepper &... dill.
  25. If you go directly to Palmetto's site thay have the disc for $12.99. That may be for a limited time.
