Have not seen any of his on-air work myself, but sounds as if Alex Rodriguez is doing a great job as a post-season post-game analyst for Fox: Alex Rodriguez the analyst -

Yes, quite a surprise, evidently even to the NY beat writers... nobody really saw this coming (the Toronto nightclub incident seemed like an aberration that could have happened to any player). He had been pitching much better lately too, ever since getting the brace put on his leg. The Yankees have been playing so badly that I don't expect them to make it far in the playoffs (hell, I'll be happy if they can just manage to beat the Astros in the WC faceoff), but if they do, they can muddle through to some extent with a Tanaka/Severino/Pineda/Warren rotation. -
Brubeck/Mulligan -- Live at the Berlin Philharmonie
ghost of miles replied to barryh471's topic in Recommendations
I've been listening to this group lately myself and really enjoying it (the Philharmonie album, Blues Roots... just ordered Last Set At Newport). Scheduling a Night Lights show about them for sometime early next year. I like that recording also. There's another by this group that's quite good called Blues Roots--I don't think it has been reissued on CD though. Reissued on CD in Japan recently as part of the Jazz Collection 1000 series. Has Compadres ever made it out anywhere on CD? -

Yankees hobbling to the finish-line, quite possibly not even getting homefield advantage for the WC faceoff. Having to go to Houston would surely increase the odds of NY being a one-and-done team in the playoffs. -

Jays are 41-14 since July 28. Anything can happen in a short series, etc., etc., but hard to bet against them at this point. -

Mosaic's forthcoming James P. Johnson set
ghost of miles replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Lester , , , then James P. . . . good things ahead for we who wait. Is Lester first? When? As things stand now, the Johnson will be out first. I think Lon simply meant the order in which we've learned of these sets. -

What Are the Most Recent Standards?
ghost of miles replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Musician's Forum
Would any Chick Corea tunes make the cut? "Spain" or "Windows"? I see Mulgrew Miller compositions popping up now from time on new releases. My friend Mitch Shiner is none too keen on the very kind of problematic repertoire snobbery that Jsngry describes. Here's his Santeria-flavored arrangement of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" (with percussionist Michael Spiro also providing vocals): Wrecking Ball Oggun -

2015 MLB Season - Let's Play Two!

Harvey's on an innings limit because of his return from Tommy John surgery. Any chance the Yanks had at overtaking or even tying the Jays went down the tubes tonight, methinks. Their pitching has actually been pretty good of late, but the offense seems to go cold every other night. Sudden-death wild-card, here we come! But it's been a blast to see the two rookies (Bird and Severino) doing so well. -

Yanks are so inconsistent of late--only two starters who are generally reliable are Tanaka and Severino. Supposedly the brace that CC's now wearing is allowing him to pitch without as much fear of discomfort, so perhaps he'll continue to be less of a liability than he was earlier this season. Even if NY wins the wild-card death match, I still don't see them getting very far in the playoffs. P.S. to Jim's KC query: what's up with Johnny Cueto? Though I gather he had a good start the other night... new-league adjustment? Injury? Other? -

Jim, in my AL East absorption, just now noticing that your Rangers have breezed into first place. If they stay there, the Yankees may be wild-carding with the other team o' Texans. -
The music in this set (of which I've heard little till now) is insanely good, not to mention the cast of musicians performing it. On disc 4 right now with Dizzy Reece and Manhattan Project... more Albert Dailey (and more Dizzy Reece) is always a desirable thing in my jazz universe.

I've always wanted to read that book, Leeway... have a copy but haven't gotten to it yet. Right now, among other things:

Amazing win by the Yankees tonight! At this point they're almost certainly wildcard-bound, and given the loss of Tex and Eovaldi for the year, any progress they make in the playoffs would simply be a bonus... but what a heartening turnaround in the top of the 9th tonight, after nearly getting no-hit by Ramirez. Great outing from CC as well.
