  1. I guess us good small town Canadian lad's aren't used to living in a paranoid, make assumptions first, ask questions later society. No hard feelings, my friend has a temperment so you'll have to excuse him. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to sit down, enjoy some nice Canadian beer, put a little Oscar Peterson on the stereo, and watch some hockey. Now does that sound like a no gooder to you guys ???? I AM CANADIAN
  2. OMG are you guys ever paranoid. GLeaman (his real first initial and last name) is a young gentleman in his mid-20's who happens to work at a record store in small town Cobourg, Ontario, Canada named ZAP Records. How do I know this you ask? Well he also works as the delivery driver at the office supply store that I manage. I guess you could say that he's about as far away from being a Universal executive as one could get. I mean he still hasn't paid his baseball pool entry fee so I know he's not making the big bucks. The reason he was asking about reissues is because some of us "young-ins" who already own everything Coltrane, Miles, Andrew Hill, Grant Green etc..... are occasionally curious about what is included on these new reissues. Truth be told we're usually disappointed to see the same stuff released again and again. But when you own all the Blue Note RVG's, the Concord RVG's, the Blue Note Connoisseurs etc .... you like to know what else is coming out in the near future. Now does that sound sinister to you guys ??? Nice to see a new young person who enjoys jazz, join the forum and have people jump down his throat. Classy bunch.
  3. Cornbread may still be in print, but it came out on cd in 1988, could use a decent remastering. Todd
  4. Have to agree about Cornbread. The Rajah is a good Lee Morgan album, Cornbread is a great one. Mobley, McLean, Hancock, Ridley, Higgins, what a lineup. Maybe with all of the Lee Morgan cd's coming up for RVG'ing in the next few months this one will show up in the next batch of reissues. Here's hoping. Todd
  5. Patterns cd now on ebay, buy it now for $69 US. Guess I got a good deal after all. Todd
  6. All of them have still been in print for the last little while. In our cd store we always keep a copy of Black Saint in stock. I just checked my suppliers website and it's still listed there. I also went to the Verve home page and nothing there. Although they have Oliver Nelson's Blues and the Abstract Truth listed as the top new release. I clicked on the icon and it gave a release date of 1995 ???? Todd
  7. What do people think are the chances of Bobby Hutcherson's Total Eclipse being released as an RVG or a Connoisseur in the future. It's one of the few 60's Blue Notes left that hasn't been reissued in the last couple of years. Todd
  8. I'd like to thank everybody for their opinion on Medina/Spiral. But you guys have really got me interested in the Total Eclipse album. That should be on the short list for an RVG and it seems that Hutcherson must be a popular seller for Blue Note because they keep releasing his stuff (RVG of Happenings, the Mosaic Select, etc...). It's funny that Components (one of the original Connoisseurs from 1994) is still available. Whereas some of his Connoisseurs released since then are now all oop (Medina/Spiral, Patterns, and The Kicker). Now since Stick Up is still available as a Connoisseur I think we'll have to wait for a while if it's RVG'd as well. Anyways I'm still looking for Medina/Spiral and now hoping for an RVG of Total Eclipse. I know there's another thread on the board that gives recommendations for RVG's and/or Connoisseurs. I guess I'll add this title to the wish list. Todd
  9. I was lucky enough to pick up Patterns off of Ebay a couple of weeks ago for $25 but haven't got it in the mail yet. Really looking forward to it. As for Medina the last one on Ebay went for around $60 plus about a month ago. There hasn't been another one on since. On Amazon Canada the cheapest one is $70. On Amazon US the cheapest one is $50. And Amazon UK is 40 pounds. To get for $15-20 is a great deal. I guess I can dream. Todd
  10. As someone who started seriously getting into jazz a couple of years ago I've attempted to pick up as much product as possible. Because of their limited edition status I have been trying to complete the Blue Note Connoisseur series. The one title that seems to be hard to locate is Bobby Hutcherson's Medina (I'm missing one other for the set but it's still relatively easy to acquire). Anyways I have two questions. 1- In everybody's expert opinion is this title worth me spending big bucks to get? On Ebay they can get pretty pricey when they do pop up, infrequently. 2- What are the chances of this being reissued as an RVG? With people willing to spend large sums of money on it you'd think there would be a market for it. Kind of like when Blue Note reissued Lee Morgan's Leeway as an RVG even though it had been a Connoiseur. Any help would be appreciated. Todd
  11. The cost of the Connoisseurs has gone up all over. Up here in Canada our wholesaler (I work at a record store on the weekends) used to have them cost $17.48 Canadian per disc. Now they've bumped them up to $19.00 a disc and with our currency now worth .94 cents to the american I'd say we're getting hosed up here. Work out to the equivalent of $17.46 american cost per disc. Keep in mind that this is at cost, before there is any store markup. I checked with some other retailers up here and this seems to be the standard cost across the board. Amazon.ca is seliing the cd's for $20.99, with our cost at $19.00 it's getting impossible for a little independent music store to compete. And the record companies wonder why sales are down and downloading is up. Could be worse though my wholesaler lists the cost of Lee Morgan's Live at the Lighthouse at $45 canadian. Todd
  12. Just curious, I work at a record store and I have noticed in the past few months that quite an amount of impulse! cd's that we've always stocked here are starting to pop up on delete lists and are going oop. For example Elvin Jones Dear John C., Freddie Hubbard Body and Soul, McCoy Tyner Live at Newport I believe are no longer in print. Now since they are tied in to the Verve music group are all these classic titles being deleted. Come to think of the Verve reissues have slowed to a crawl as well. I sure hope they're not deleted, great stuff and still consistent sellers at the store. Maybe their just deleting the titles in Canada and becoming imports from the U.S. ??? If anybody has any more information on the Verve/Impulse! reissue policy it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Todd
  13. Hello all I noticed the following titles coming out in June on the Warner Jazz Masters Series .... Ornette Coleman: free jazz Bill Evans: new conversations Herbie Hancock: mwandishi Milt Jackson and John Coltrane: bags & tranes Keith Jarrett: El Juicio Keith Jarrett: somewhere before Roland Kirk: Inflated tear Modern jazz quartet: pyramid Jaco Pastorius: invitation Flora Purim: carry on As an avid collection of the RVG series, the Connoisseurs, and now the Keepnews collection are these of the same quality ? are there other titles in the series ?? Any information would be much appreciated. Todd
